Hi Jon,
Been there. Replace the other O2 sensor that sits under the car and sees water, salt and elements more often. From the other bank.
Cheers

Hi last year I got my Alfie's starter motor repair for 95GBP in Stoke on Trent. That's including repair and taking it from the car and putting back together. Bit far from Midlands but you could find a shop that does only those repairs in Midlands.

Good info Mark,
End of month I am planning to replace transmission oil in my 2005 facelift 3.0 5 speed U151E. Mine is around 110k kilometres.
I will go with dynamic oil change.
I checked original Toyota oil prices here in Europe and it's around 15gbp per liter. I think to stick with that.
Did you change your filter? I am debating (in my head) about that now.
Do you or anyone knows amount oil that goes to that transmission.

Hi,
I was in similar position at some point.
Few questions to answer.
Are you fussy about the vehicle age? Yes Then go to Gen 2, if not proceed to Gen 1 face lift 3.0(5 speed gearbox) unless doing short runs then 2,4 gen 1 any year you like.
If you get Gen 2 go for 3.5 (6 sp auto gearbox)unless you really use van on short distance in the city.
2.4 gen 2 has CVT gearbox which is something that some people complain about.
Best advice is to go for the nearest dealer and have a drive in each to compare.
Cheers

Hi Alan,
I assume you mean conversion to LPG fuel rather than gas for cooking.
If your LPG conversion was done by an approved converter (which it should have been in order to be legal) then the vehicle should be on the UKLPG register and it's likely that your logbook (V5C) will show the Alphard as dual-fuel.
You can have an extra tank fitted, but of course it is a specialist job and again you should use an approved installer - see www.drivelpg.co.uk/ for a list.
Our installer fitted two external tanks, piped up in parallel, to get 80L capacity - one in place of the spare wheel (often known as a doughnut tank) and the other smaller one slung centrally across the vehicle behind the petrol tank. Because it's a campervan, we also have gas cooking from a Gaslow bottle, which is permanently plumbed in. This is tee'd from the LPG filler, so we fill both the auto tank and the Gaslow at the pump.
Many forecourts won't allow you to fill portable gas bottles, because of safety risks. LPG in the fuel tank is held under pressure, as Rojie says, and it is the pressure that keeps LPG as a liquid until it reaches the regulator (in the engine compartment), where the pressure is reduced in a controlled way and then converts to gas. So any home transfer of LPG would be high risk and really could be highly dangerous.
Hi pocus,
Do you have any photos of that tank setup, especially the additional tank across the car.

Ok, good to know. There is no magical oil that lasts without a change. Fingers crossed for the fruitful battle with the garage.

Hi Lee,
Sorry to hear that. Out of interest what kind of oil you have been using, your oil service intervals seems quite short.
Fingers crossed for flush, it feels like driving 100 miles with engine flush in seems excessive usually is only for period of time like 30 mins.
Thanks

Hi Graham,
I would personally go for 6-7k oil change intervals, so in your case twice a year. Use some good engine oil and replace it often.
You can actually find a sticker, under a bonnet in Japanese and use Google translate to translate photo to English.
Cheers

Hi All,
To happy Alphard owners. I have joined the forum quite some time ago even before I got my Alphard 2005 3.0 face lift and I love.
Have a good day.

Hi,
Congrats on new purchase.
Transmission oil looks ok.
I would change the engine oil and air filter element asap. No point in delaying service. As you don't have any history. Pick some good oil and filter.
(I use Motul and Knecht but that's my pick).
