So long as the 5w30 oil for the Merc meets one of the specifications show in the manual above then it would be fine.

Oils, and engine design and emission control, have moved on quite a bit in the last 35 years. The weight of the oil is only one measure of the properties of that oil so I'm afraid that one 5w30 oil could be very different to another because of the additive mix, and whether it is mineral, semi-synthetic or fully synthetic. There is a specified standard that the oil needs to meet and this is what should compared in addition to the weight of the oil.

The days of garages having a drum of oil that can be used to service every car that crosses the threshold ended a long time ago for very good reasons, and those reasons apply at home as well.

My only real gripe is that diesel oil has a "cleansing agent!" and how it affects VVT if at all.

  2. Further to this topic, as stated above the water drains overflowed on the wifes Vellfire and dripped inside after night of rain.

Went out this morning with the intention of assessing what needs to be done based on others input, well, once I realised exactly where the drain hole was it became apparent there is another option.

Firstly you will need a mig gun liner (the inner part that the welding wire actually runs through), I pulled one out of my old weld torch and stripped off the outer plastic coating.

These liners are are very flexible yet some force can be pushed along its length, ideal for sending down narrow pipes/tubes.

    1. Open sun roof

    2. remove plastic trim that is attached to the side of the glass frame hiding the mechanism by pulling it downwards.

3.from the drivers seat pass the torch liner over the metal parts as shown in 1st picture and guide into the hole (fiddly part)

    4. feed in the liner in a see saw action, mine was 3mtre and took most of it, will pull out easily.

NB. protect the roof liner from dirt.

Can you please share where you purchased it?

Is it pdf format? Which generation? Thanks

Will have to ask the other half when she comes in and post all the detail, her memory is better than mine.

Actually I think someone may hay posted it on this site and that is where I got the memory stick from, you still have to download free software for it to work.

If you wanted to get rid of it, and could recover all the associated cables, I would be interested, purely for the ' OEM ' factor, Toyota have moved on to newer models now, with WiFi connectivity to your phone, with an app, their best ones have 360° recording, so you can see the entire inside and through the windows as well as the view through the windscreen

According to the very large book (for a dash cam) that came with it, it is supposed to be able to connect to the wifes phone but zilch, so I assume it was not re-connected when the head unit was changed just as they also 'forgot' to put the gear selector light socket back in as well because that doesn't illuminate either 😒

You cant get the staff these days...

yes seen loads of them with aftermarketscreens and working, just wondering if i have to unplug the tv reciever ecu aswell.or just run a direct cable from the decoder box to the amp.

The impression I get is that these after market roof units work independent of the head unit (as shown in video), especially the ones like this with BT for the headphones, all that is required is a 12v supply which I assume is already in the roof.

I have recently purchased a 2006 Alphard with a LPG conversion.

With the limited availability of LPG at service stations etc can I fit a second tank to increase my range?

    External ?

    Internal ?

I have also thought about home filling from LPG bottles?

I have a well established supplier in Telford, Watling Street, so filling up here is no problem.

I would appreciate your comments on which is an issue we all face.

Perhaps the guy you are looking for is in Dawley in Telford. He is round the corner from me, he fits LPG to all sorts.

I used to pay £10 per year to a club and they it gave access to all LPG sites across the country (at a cheaper rate) and they gave me an A6 book with all the nationwide LPG sites and an access key with 4 digit code to gain access to the cages, not sure if this is still the case though.

Thank you Paul. Good suggestion and not one I’d thought of. There is a mobile auto electrician not far from us so I’ll call him early next week. That should save fruitless and frustrating discussions at various garages. Much obliged.

My digital workshop manual came today and I am trying to find a way of copying the files so that others can share it (it opens in its own windows xp os) but to no avail so far 🤔
