I think this is a feature of many automatic boxes for many years. I think it is actually sensing that you are braking on a hill and changes down to give you some engine braking. When you accelerate it changes up again. I've had this feature on autos before and our 2008 Aplhard does it.

Thanks, that makes sense, I thought it was that and as I said Ive only just noticed it.

    Cheers

    Hi Pete,

Our Alphard was registered by the converter under the category of Motor Caravan PLG (Private/Light Goods) as a 4-seater. Of course, this was a new registration in the UK following import. I assume this is a standard registration category, but other contributors will let you know if it's not...

Conversion company says it’s stays as is, an MPV as you state so all good 👍🏼

Just picked up my 2012 Alphard today and have the exact symptoms described here. Was a bit disappointed but fingers crossed the cheapest solution sorts it!

Just to let you know how my repair went, the mechanic changed it in 30 mins, he'd never changed one before so I linked the video above how to do it. He reached up without doing any of what the video showed but he was obviously pretty competant as a mechanic and very flexible 🤣 Good luck, hope it solve the problem 👍🏻

I am just going to jump in hear as i have the same issue with my 2.4l mk2 which i have owned for only 6 weeks.

in that time i have covered 1000 miles and it has used one and a half liters of oil which in my book is excessive.

I have been under the car today to check that i am not loosing oil and the underside is completely clean .

It was the first time i felt sad about not finding a leak!

I realize the piston ring recall was for the American market due to the rings that were fitted ,blocking with carbon and getting jammed ,letting oil past.

There is no signs of head gasket problems. no usage of coolant at all. no overheating, slug in the oil, misfire on start up, over pressurized in the water system ect ect so in my case a pcv valve jammed open may well be the problem too.

Has anyone had this problem and resolved it by changing the pcv valve?

Hi Chris, did you resolve the oil usage by replacing the pcv valve in the end. I'm having the same issue, 2 litres used in 3200 miles, no leaks, engine runs smooth, no smoke from exhaust, covered 58000 miles, its a mystery.

    Did some research.

Toyotas OEM Wipers for the alphards used blades provided by nippons blade division called NWB (nippon wiper blades)

For the 10 series, the fronts are 26"(650mm) and 16"(400mm), with rear being 16"(400mm)

For the 20 series, the rear is the same, but the fronts are 30"(750mm)and 14"(350mm)

NWB blades are coded D** (** is the 1st 2 digits of the size in mm, E.g. D75 = 750mm) and the rear is GRB40

The 'D' is their design range that use graphite coated rubber.

You can buy their HDA or HDB range (the frames are identical, but the rubber blade is coated in varying qualities of water repellant material that coats the glass (better performance with frost/snow))

You CAN buy just the rubber inserts (check that your existing blades are the nippons ones, they should have a metal clip/rail that needs to be removed and reused - the rubbers do not come with this metal part)

I bought a set from amazon.co.jp (you can create an account in English)

Search term for 10 series is NWB D65 D40 GRB40
Search term for 20 series is NWB D75 D35 GRB40

You can also buy DENSO, which is a decent OEM used by Toyota.

Their largest blade, unfortunately, is only 700mm(28") so if you have a 20 series, you will have slightly less coverage on drivers side.

    DENSO codes are
    DU-070R (28") or DUR-065R (26") driver side
    DU-040(16") or DU-35(14") passenger side
    And DRB-040 rear.

For all these wipers, the passenger and rears are about £8 to £12.
The drivers side, being much larger is about £22 to £26

These are hook fixings, so any cheapo blade of manufacturers wipers will work if you get the sizes right.

The rear blade has a different connector design, so probably best to stick with the NWB or DENSO designs.

Opieoils (linked in a previous post) is very competitive of you are buying the denso blades, but you will be limited to a mac size of 28"

If you still have the original NWB (Nippon) blades fitted, you can save money by buying the rubbers only, from Toyota, or amazon.co.jp

Cheers Chris for the advice, signed up to Amazon Japan, bought the NWB wipers, arrived in 4 days 👍🏻

Have you tried the other functions, like having all the windows open and close on long press of the lock unlock fob buttons? Quite useful when getting out of the car and the children have left window open.

I went to change this, it's when I realised I only had 3 free changes, still think the £25.00 subscription for the year is worth it so may go ahead with that.

Just to confirm all changes are great, just been out and lights come on a lot sooner 👍

For android mobile, the dual PCB one for£3.70.

Just wanted to say thanks, also to Picasso and Voodoo101, got the OBDll dongle today, plugged it in, downloaded Car Scanner which allows you up to 3 alterations for free, changed the sensitivity and delay timings, not bad for £3.70, saved me a small fortune I'm guessing on taking it into Toyota. Haven't tested it yet, waiting until it gets darker out but again wanted to say thanks and what a great community here 👍🏻

I've bought one from eBay and AliExpress, both under £10.

I'll pm you the AliExpress link.

The link i shared is s common design, but be aware that not all of these clone devices are jobd, the link i used has an older design with dedicated daughter board inside.

I cannot vouch for the newer single board designs.

Seems the one you linked is out of stock 😔
