AFS question
It seems the AFS is actually working. I never take notice when the lights come on but last night when I started the car I made a point of looking where the light points to when switched on and I could see the beam moving up and down as it seemed to calibrate itself. When driving along a country lane I tried to see if any movement laterally when going around a bend and I think there was a little, very subtle movement I think so it does seem to be working after all. I did find something online suggesting that in the first 15 mins of starting the engine whilst stationary one could as a test turn the steering wheel side to side and should see sideways movement but I haven’t done this but may do to satisfy my curiosity.

AFS question
Hi all, I’m not sure if my AFS is working or not. I’m driving a 2006 3.0L MZ Alphard. I sat parked up tonight with the. Headlights on and toggled the AFS switch on and off with a pause of about 10 seconds in between and noticed no change in the light pattern. I assume there should be a bit of light movement when changed, is that correct? Does it need to be working for the MOT? if so I may have to get it fixed before the test. Thanks in advance

MOT near Maidenhead
Hi Chris, Thanks for that. I was thinking due to the odometer being in KM and the fog lights being adapted from factory fit, a garage with experience would know to look for these things. I've booked in to a garage someone who owns an Alphard has used before and recommended.

Rear window curtains issue
So I was clearing out my toolshed the other day and found my tin of PTFE lubricating spray and decided to try spraying the rails of the read curtain track which I did and wiped the excess off, manually moved the curtains back and forth then tried electrically closing them, the spray worked a treat, now opening and closing like they used to. I then did the same for the side curtains which work better than they did although they weren’t really sticking before.

Rear window curtains issue
Hi all, My 2006 MZ Alphard has electrically powered curtains on the side windows and tailgate. One of the curtains on the tailgate fails to retract or pull closed properly when the button is pressed. When closed and I try to open them by button the passenger side curtain only retracts fully from the top rail and a little from the lower rail, and likewise if trying to close them the curtain only moves a little in from the outside edge. I can manually open or close them by gently pushing/pulling the top and bottom runners simultaneously and there is no resistance. I think it has to be cable operated and would like to ask if any members have any experience of these curtains? All advice gratefully received before I start opening up the tailgate to have a look.

Installation of second cigarette lighter socket
The one I bought, the link is here. 2024 3 Ports 12V RV USB Outlet 72W Dual USB C 36W and Dual QC 3.0 18W Port Car Charger Socket Accessories for Car Bus RV Truck - AliExpress 34 I took a feed from the back of the cigarette lighter socket live and ground connections using an inline fuse and about a metre of cable suitable for about 5 amps of power. Depending on where you want to place the module will determine the length of cable you need. I routed the wiring around the back of the glovebox and under the carpet to the centre console where I mounted the module with double sided tape.

Odometer changed to miles from Km
The dial was changed, upon viewing the car had a kmh dial which the dealer changed to an mph dial as they said they do as part of the predelivery service. The Carvx report stated the mileage before shipping as slightly higher than actual and I assumed they had rounded up by around 100km. The centre of the dial has the k blacked out.

Odometer changed to miles from Km
I’ve had my 2006 Alphard about six weeks now so still learning things about it. On my way work last week I noticed the odometer was at something like 68100when leaving home and when I arrived at work 18 miles later the odometer showed 68118 which means it is counting miles not km. The car had a bit over 42k miles or 67k ish Km showing on the odometer when I bought it, the dials were changed to Mph and I assumed the odometer would keep counting the KMs but it seems not. I don’t necessarily need to clock the car down to the correct mileage but have the odometer counting in KMs. If I were to sell the car down the line I need to be able to say it has done x amount of Kms as oppose to whatever the odometer shows as miles. Has anyone else experienced this?
