Can anyone help with telling us whether this is a radio or GPS or both?No photo description available.

Wow Jenny,

Not seen one of these before.

Is it branded Toyota ?

Is there a type number on the front bezel. I can see W57' what is the whole number ?

At least you have an Aux input !

Is this screen the start up screen ?

Is this the only screen you can get ?

Jenny,

IF it is a radio, and I can't imagine what else it is, it won't work in the UK without a Frequency Expender.

If it is a GPS, that won't work either.

If it is a bluetooth unit, you may be able to get GPS and Radio though your phone.

Do you have a VTR input on the rear of the centre floor mounted console ?

I recently saw someone hooking up through the RCA inputs, but you need a cheap adapter and a USB supply.

Well you've both been very helpful in fact. It seems like whatever it is, it's not much use to us - we're CD and local radio type of people. We have a plug in GPS which we hardly use so don't really need that. I was told it was a Toyota radio, but they're not much help either. We don't have a VTR I don't think. We're thinking go to Halfords and have something new put in.

We have the drop down TV/DVD screen in the roof, so we might lose that I guess, but if we can't use it anyway.

The start up screen says Multi Media something, and then quickly switches to the one pictured. With a little help from Google image translate we can see it's asking for a password, and saying 'What is your pet's name?'

There is a button that switches the keyboard to English alphabet, but the pet's name would presumably have to be inserted in Japanese to work.

A friend said: (76032). This appears to be the unlock screen for Toyota Radios.

This video shows someone unlocking it:  But I couldn't really follow.

This is another photo of ours.

May be an image of phone and text that says 'パスワード認証 VOL MENU 現在地 OPEN PASSENGE REAR W FRONT A/C 無 REAR :00 TEMP MODE OUTSIDE OFF AUTO'

Hello Jenny,

The last photo may be very useful.

Maybe someone on the forum will recognise it.

It have heard talk of the aux input.

Unfortunately, it is not the same as the one I have fitted.

It looks quite  modern unit.

Referring to my ever present English Owner's manual doesn't help either.

There are several units in it, but this isn't one of them.

I can't quite read the type number in the lower rhs, but am assuming it is 76032.

I assume, if this weren't locked, it will have a CD / DVD player (and maybe a MD0 once the screen is lowered.

Be patient.

Pressing the open button is getting you nowhere I assume.

I'll see what else I can come up with.  Best for now.

Hi Jenny,

It seems you are right, the radio code id locked. This is all new ground for me.

There seems to be several (at least) youtube videos that can help you.

Most of them have a charge; surprising !

However, I found one, that appears not to.

Scan youtube for Basharat Ahmad.

If your unit is a NDDN-W57 he seems to offer a method for unlocking your unit.

Good Luck, hope it works for you.

Please let me know.

TOYOTA ALPHARD G MZ G EDITION | 2007 | BLACK M | 162579 km | details.- Japanese used cars.Goo-net ExchangeToyota Alphard 2004 for Sale | carsguide

hey @Jenny Smedley, is yours a mz edition?

If it is, then that means this headunit is aftermarket

Mz alphards only come with two particular headunits 03-05 have a particular one ad 06-08 have a particular one

ill show an image above comparing yours and the normal mz two

I know yours is a facelift model due to the colour of the wood (older ones have the darker wood you can see above ^

The easiest way to tell if your alphard is the mz model is the trim or the "fog lights" on the bottom front of the car.. If they are circular, it is not an mz.. but if they are rectangular then it is!

never seen a unit like this before. Looks similar to the bottom one

Hope this helps

I wouldnt get a new unit fitted at halfords

You will lose reverse cameras and all steering wheel buttons

Good Luck

Oh, well that's interesting...someone else mentioned the screen opening, as at the moment there's no sign of a CD slot. Yes, that is the right number 76032. Someone else claims they can tell us how to avoid the password. So we'll see. The Toyota dealers have offered to have a look, for a price, and plug their computer in to try and override the password, but we're wary of the electrics getting messed up by them.

Sorry I don't know what an MZ is...? I will have a look at those features you mentioned. The car front is pictured here.

ahh yours is a toyota alphard ms edition

Youve got many different specs with these cars. Mine is an mz-g edition which means creme interior and leather seats.

Youve also got the mz edition, Axl edition, as edition, alcantara edition, and the hybrid

You also have a badge on the back that will either be a g or v. It is next to the alphard lettering

These two mean they have different trim levels/exterior differences

your system is deffo aftermarket and usually when you press the eject button the screen will fold down showing a cd and mini disc slot. slot the cd in, Then your car will start playing music

You might have had your player moved into the gloveboxes or on the right of you where the buttons are under the steering wheel (if its aftermarket which im 100% sure it is)

Have you tried to press the open button? because that should flip it down. if none of the above work. you have no cd player

you should probably in my opinion try find the original headunit that came with this car, and get that fitted

It means you can keep all original functions and have a dvd player

Good Luck

To be honest it's no better than the one we have. It says it needs to be reset to English, not that it has) If we can get a pass code to get round the password (we've been able to translate that it is asking for a pet name) we can change the screen to English, as we've done that already (we used image translation on Google to find the button that says 'English' it's third from the left at the bottom), but it's still asking for a password.

Hi Jenny,

Well it seems you are making progress ......

Beware the "can be reset to English". If it IS in English that is a different matter.

Good news is that you have achieved that already.

Just the password problem to overcome now !

Did you scan youtube for Basharat Ahmad yet ?

He is the author of a video where he can, I think, provide you with the radio key (for free).

I would not be rushing to Halfords either.

Their interest will be to sell you one of their units.

IHMO, there are far more suitable units available elsewhere if you choose to upgrade.

Again, I suggest you invest some time on this forum, as the radio replacement is a VERY common topic.

hmm weird, if you WERE to change the screen, i would deffo just go for a new one with apple car play or android auto, Look up ben hau on facebook, he might be able to help you with your headunit. he is an alphard specialist and changes/sorts out peoples headunits

Hope this helps

Will try that thank you. We've tried one - followed all the instructions - nothing happened. Another one says press the 'main' button, don't know what they mean.

Yes we tried pressing the open button, it just continues to ask for our pet's name :)

It's not an mz as the fog lights on the front are round. It is a V

Yeah the V on the back is the trim version, you have got g or v as options. V is more common.

These are two separate things! the japanese love different trim levels!

For example an mz V is different to an mz G

or an ms V is different to an ms G

You have an MS V

i was confused at first too haha. Couldn't tell the difference when i first heard of alphards

This forum has been mega useful and will deffo help you in your journey

Enjoy your alphard

Have you contacted him ?

I got the impression he does more than one type.

Maybe it is worth risking £20 or so with one of the other people who claim they can solve the issue.

Nothing ventured ....

Hi Charlie,

I think the G and V are different distribution channels in Japan.

Each offered slightly different vehicles (eightseaterblog.com for details) to differentiate their products.

I think the MZ, MX, MS, AX. AS, etc are the basic trim levels before the many options that can be specified.

yeah the g was sold by toyota toyopet and the v was sold by NETZ. NETZ was the more common place to buy your car from. Mine was from the NETZ osaka dealership

i explained badly last night! thats what i meant, but the V and G do offer different trims, like the v for example has a different carpet to the G. People apparently preferred the V in japan

Interesting isnt it?

i do love the effort the japanese put into these cars

It is hard to find two exactly the same!

Yes very interesting about the trims!

We've decided to give up, getting a new radio at Halfords next week.
