Warning lights and Electric Motor cut out

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I replaced a new 12v battery in my 2012 model Velfire. After a couple of days 4 warning lights came on whilst I was driving (plz see photo). At the same time various things stopped working, like Cruise control, only petrol engine operational.

I disconnected battery for 1 min and everything started working normally. But it has happened again 3 days later..

Has anyone else had this?

What could be the issue?

Only started after new 12v battery was installed.

Well, I don't own an hybrid version, but I own a prius 3.
The japanese message is telling you to check the hybrid system.

First thing to verify in this case is the 12v battery voltage, if it's too low for the computer, it will warn you there's a problem.

Hi, is it the correct battery for the vehicle? It needs to be a start stop type battery. Hybrids appear to be awkward if you don't have the right 12v battery or don't keep it up to the mark. When I had a battery issue my dealer obtained the manufacturer's recommended one from Tayna.co.uk.

Hi,

I didn't have to do anything when I replaced my battery. I found the engine started straight after the battery was replaced but the "warning sign" issue was still there but after switching off and removing the key then restarting everything was ok. Had the same issue when the battery was flat and I jump started the vehicle, all ok after switching off and restarting. Incidentally I have a remote start on my Clifford alarm key fob and I get warning signs after starting which go away after pressing the brake pedal. Do you press the brake pedal when starting? Hybrids seem to have a few oddities. Have you checked the battery connections? I had trouble getting the nuts to tighten due to the tight spaces - also I did put vaseline on the terminals which prevented tightening and had to clean it off- didn't realise that with the battery inside the vehicle there wasn't much chance of corrosion. Still learning!

I suspect it's the hybrid battery system, rather than the 12V. The 12V is required to boot up the hybrid systems when first starting it up. If the battery isn't working properly or doesn't have enough voltage, you'll know, because it will fail to switch on. But all engine functions should run off the hybrid battery after that first step, including restarting the engine, so I can't see why the 12V battery would cause the car to go into a safety mode while it's actually driving.

What battery model did Toyota replace it with? My Toyota garage couldn’t find a direct replacement, I had to source my own. Can you check the voltage of the battery without the engine running?

Is your car sorted now?

Hi,

the vehicle was fine until December when I couldn't us it for a few weeks and now having issues with it - the 12v battery may have gone bad as charging it will start the petrol engine but not the hybrid system- am waiting for a new Yuasa battery to come from back order and hoping this will fix the new issue.

You guys really need to learn how to disconnect the HV and 12v batteries when in storage, I'm sure there is a master fuse in the engine bay, and also a kill switch on the hv battery inverter ourself

Have none of you tried to purchase the Toyota service manuals on CDROM?

They can be found for around £70 including shipping from Japan.

Club together and buy one - this is what you are after (I'm not the seller, and you can find this cheaper, this is to show what you need)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364072895945

The manuals include full diagnostic flowchart and all the codes that can be o/p from the obd port.

We can only help so much, but without the source tech manual specifically for the hybrid, we are operating blind.

In they past, I've forked out my own cash to help out (I have access to the 10 and 20 non-hybrid series technical manuals), or spent many hours to source data online that I can share (again, for 10 and 20 series non-hybrid I have posted links to online copies of the technical manuals) , I am pretty sure this info is available online for the hybrid too, but you will need to use Japanese or Malaysian search sites.

Hi, I am about to be on my third 12v battery so am now familiar with that side but do not know where the HV disconnect plug is. There appears to be very little on the series 1 hybrid as I have been searching for info for some time now. I have seen a series 2 diagram which appears to show the HV plug under the centre console storage box but it isn't there on the series 1. I found a photo on a website of a Malaysian repairer which might be the plug but it doesn't give the location and it doesn't look like the ones on the Prius. If any members know where the plug is and what it looks like I would be grateful.

Hi Chris

I own 2007 Alphard 3.0 V6 1MZ engine, appreciate if you can share online copies of the technical manuals. Thanks

Hi Teh,

Welcome to the Forum,

I doubt Chris will meet your request.

As a long serving member Chris will be well aware that the Forum must respect copyright.

You could, as Chris suggests, buy a CDROM for your own personal use !
