Hoorah. Managed to get my roof DVD player working.
My car has an Alpine VIE-X08 head unit connected upto an Alpine Rear Vision unit that only plays NTSC.
After a wee wait I’ve finally got a suitable NTSC DVD and … it works!
Hoorah.

Hey there,

that’s exciting you have a working dvd.

Can I ask if you had to have a separate Alpine DVD player (compatible) to the overhead unit?

I have an Alpine overhead monitor In my Alphard I just bought. the front dash monitor (which can play dvds on its own but not through overhead monitor) is Carrozzeria. I’ve attached the brands ‘ models of units if anyone can point me in the right direction.

any help is appreciated 😊

it wouldn't surprise me if you were able to unlock pal mode on the dvd, back in the 90s I was forever using engineering codes to unlock NTSC mode for Japanese movies.

Usually done via a key combo on remote.

Try looking for some alpine codes and give it a try

Generally speaking, back in the day, many systems were interchangeable between NTSC and PAL, and vice versa.

The use of 'international' integrated circuits facilitated this; but finding how to switch from one standard to the other was not easy.

Finding out how to make the change was usually very difficult.

DVD players were a case in point. Region 1 and Region 2, etc.

Rather like todays TVs that can decode any international standard.

All down to International Marketing and which regions will pay a premium price to get the latest technology first (ie. before anyone else).

Thanks Chris & Rojie for your help / tips.

In Australia we originally used PAL but it was fazed out when digital

come along.

I actually came across an option for a code to be entered on the MMS screen (front dash dvd) so will try that. When I accidentally find it again.

Do either of you know why the Alpine screen & all the headrest screens would be blue? I have 11 screens to be exact.

When the Alpine overhead monitor is on it shows blue screen, I cannot open up any menu when I press the buttons. It’s as if one machine is not talking to the other.

I'm confused.

Who watches the screens attached to the rear seats.

Seems like modifications without sense.

Our thoughts exactly. There are even screens for the driver and passenger & a small screen on the rear view mirror. All of which are driving hazards.

im working on the pin code to unlock whatever I can. I’ll report back for those who may find their Alphard over the top with screens.

It was thought that blue screens were 'more kind' to the eyes.

Apparently, current thinking is the opposite.

News PCs reduce the amount of blue light emitted to reduce eye strain !

Hi, apologies for the delayed reply. My overhead DVD player was already installed when I purchased the car. To be honest I don’t really use it as it would eat my car battery when parked. I was testing it more so I have an option if my niece and nephew are in the back, to keep them entertained on a long journey. Issue though is that I need NTSC DVDs. I may upgrade the head unit to an apple car play version though which should allow me to stream content to the DVD player from my phone.

Hiyah, no problem for reply. I’ve been working On getting the front DVD player to work in the back bit so far all I’ve been able to do is plug in a separate DVD player to see if the rest of screens work. The vehicle is 17yrs old so it’s not the best quality of screens. However still fairly advanced since I can’t seem to get the thing working how it’s suppose too.

I’m thinking like yourself an upgrade maybe worth the investment esp if I sell & upgrade to a newer alphie.

My 12yr old wants PS in the back & my toddlers will wanna watch their shows.

…. but for now I can at least play a dvd for short trips if we need it.

thanks for making the post :)

I had my five and half year old niece in the car last week but she was decidedly underwhelmed with my choice of DVD - shockingly 1950s black and white Godzilla isn’t her thing  😆 I’m going to have to source NTSC copies of Frozen 😂

Hello Pedro,

Welcome to the Forum

Appreciate it. Just brought a 2012 Toyota Vellfire. Kids and wife loves it. Just trying to sort out the roof mount screen. I managed to change the language to English (roof screen) but still having problems getting the movie to display from the front display.

It would help to post an image of your existing units, as we don't know if standard or aftermarket..

Are you trying to play movie on front screen? Standard Japanese regulations mean it won't play on funny screen of the car is moving and parking brake not on.

You can bypass this, but it involves cutting 2 wires, you can either wire them permanently to bypass safety Freddie on headunit, or fit switch like many alphards seen to have fitted aftermarket

It plays while driving so that’s fine. Just getting nothing on the rear monitor. It’s on just not sure if signal traveling to the back.

Oh. I don't recognise either of those units, so both aftermarket.

I can't help personally, so hopefully others here have experience with them.

Got it going, reset my front head unit then that gave me an option to turn rear monitor on.
