Goz Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Hi all,  I spent today trying to remove my head unit, unsuccessfully. I have been completely stumped by a pair of weird little screws holding it in either side of the radio.   It looks a bit like a torx security screw .. but its not. The flower head pattern in the middle is not symmetrical. It appears to be keyed to a specific design. I just can't get it out. The edge of the screw is tapered so I can't get vise grips on it and the space is too small and unwieldy to get my dremel into.   Anyone have any ideas how i can get the things out?  A friend who is into Toyotas and is a bit of a car radio genius has not seen a screw like this and has gone off and checked the alphard specs and it should be 4 screws like the upper 2 philips screws to remove it.  This is ultra annoying as I can't even get the old radio out to find out exactly what sort of wiring loom i need. Only suggestion thus far is to epoxy something to the bolt and then hope that holds and unscrew it ...

Also, there are 2 flower patterns. An outer one and one around the center raised circular it. The inner flower is not symmetrical either.
MonsterS Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Personally I just use a star Allen key tap it in and unscrew. Then replace with screws. But that's just me 1

Goz Posted October 16, 2023 Author Posted October 16, 2023 Hmm ... After much hunting around it appears to be a "toyota navigation lock bolt". Â Now I just nede to find one available for a reasonable price ... or failing that ... a solution to get one of the things out.
Goz Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 (edited) Well for anyone else that suffers here ... put the end of a thin screwdriver into the splines and rotate it round ... the screws aren't in very strongly!  Now to order all the other parts! 🤣   Edited October 17, 2023 by Goz
