Hi all,

What are people doing with the Component Video inputs that link to the flip-down TV?

I'd like to connect it to a Lightning or USB-C plug for video input off a mobile device, but can't seem to find a good one online.

I think Lightening and USB C are both digital interfaces; whereas RCA is analogue, i.e. Component Video is analogue.

Lightening cables are available that have an in-built DAC which will output analogue signals.

Thanks Roger and yes, absolutely; I'll need to source a good cable for that.

In perusing further, I was wondering if an Apple TV would fit the bill. There's a useful discussion on a 4x4 South Africa forum which implies that appliances running at ~100W at 1A should work without popping. An Apple TV can switch down to around that wattage, and it's just over 1A. If I can connect that and get an HDMI->RCA cable, I'm sorted. (I don't say this with 100% confidence though!)

Thanks Skippy - do you happen to know where you bought it from eg AliExpress?

Yes it was from AliExpress but I think I’ve seen it on eBay Uk as well this one has HDMI output as well as RCA as most mirror cast have just HDMI only.

Like I said works well my alphard must have been modified as it streams from the phone even when the vehicle is in motion so can enjoy catching up with all the news from the Uk streaming GB news live on both screens while out and about also have a FM streamer tuned into a spare FM channel and able to stream BBC sounds and all radio through the original premium sound system didn’t need to change the original head unit which is very good quality and retain all the original steering buttons which you can sometimes loose when fitting after market head units.

Hey skippy, I've just bought an alphaed with this device, however there is no audio playing from it. Do I need to do something special to get it to play?

I’ve just got Alphard and was hoping to play music from my phone using the RCA inputs in the centre console. But I was getting an error message when selecting the Video input on the head unit. I swapped a couple of plugs around, under the passengers seat, the white one must have been for the old TV tuner and plugged the blue plug back into its place. The inputs are now working and I can play music from my phone and it sounds awesome!
