Can anyone recommend someone in or around Edinburgh who would be able to fix this problem?

Hi Michael,

 

Door started to stick and needed assistance to open and close until it eventually jammed and had to be forced shut. Turning off the electrical assist didn't help and if anything made it worse. Local Toyota dealership wouldn't touch unless the van was unconverted to allow them to take a look. Van was bought froma private owner who had purchased it from Milldown campers the year before. I would take it to them to have a look at but they are in Folkestone.

I oil the runners , and moving mechanisms from time to time. I use WD40, spray the latching too. Most Toyota dealers will not touch imports with a barge pole, but some will. Its just finding the ones that will and hang onto them, for the future problems.

hello hans does sound like the door cable has broke or got tangeled this will need to be replaced google    campervan co    or    calder campers they will be able to help you 

Mine jammed & I found a small lever on the bottom mechanism had jammed, a bit of silicon lube spray sorted it.

BTW WD40 is not a lubricant, it’s a water dispersant.

Agree with Gordon ref lever and silicon spray lubricant/grease. Be aware WD40 is a very mild lubricant but mainly a water dispersant/cleaner, it can have very bad effects on plastics/rubber:- swelling/rotting/perishing...

Sounds like the drive cable, (bowden type) has jammed the pulleys inside the door, it is a known fault. The cable has a plastic outer which gets brittle and breaks up, the bits foul the pulleys/motor, as the cable is under tension you have to release the tension to allow the door to move freely, cut the cable close to the entry point on the door and remove it from the channel under th rear quarter window this will allow you to open/close the door manually, switch off the "power door" on the dash.
