MSM Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I have a 2007 ANH10 with head unit changed to a Pioneer SPH-DA360DAB. However the reverse camera picture isn’t great, especially at night when it looks possibly like small scratches are scattering light from the reverse light to make it really hard to see. I’m assuming that the camera is the original unit, located just above the licence plate. The picture quality isn’t great during the day resolution/clarity-wise. Is it possible to just replace the camera unit with a new one without changing the wiring? If so, any recommendations for replacement camera models? Advice on how to get to the camera to remove it would be appreciated? Many thanks in advance.

I am also keen to know about the reversing camera and replacement options.
Gamith Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Mine seems to be in permanent zoomed in mode so not really handy for getting an idea of where things are, so I could well be looking at this soon. I would start by taking the boot lid liner off and looking at the connections, which I am assuming there are - it could be a single fixed lead that goes all the way to the head unit. Take a picture of the connector for reference and then dismount the camera and take a picture of that also. If it's the original part then amayama.com would help in finding the correct part number for an original replacement, or if it isn't original you should now have what you need to find a matching or suitable alternative. 1
Gamith Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Tried this but it didn't fit properly - it only points straight down: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FJ7VZNQV?ref_=pe_109253361_1103576791_t_fed_asin_title So now have one of these on order: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375925726231?_skw=toyota+alphard+2005+parking+camera&itmmeta=01K205BQ4WZ84ACYCE1CG2EG7P&hash=item5786eb5c17:g:l-8AAOSwADZnh4Ma&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1eHRQC%2B0ruagapeb7ZwDsSheAiL3l1XpuvMerbbrk%2FbwiiqsnTgJ2lKZlwM0GypewvyVkrUyhCLflh4LDGDB7ghMnM8O6l93q6Jb2Os6mWL%2FWuQate3bWThvGyknobaclxIL7vujhhO0MSAwubyhCS9A%2FgtvTm2HVrVE6pKk3UhF%2BvJMLW%2BZ0wRs%2F2Mg8Jye%2FoxfOuWH3qJrZM%2FUGWM6rGG84QWF7qcqU5JlRwaoUadv7y15TZ%2B0387v8DfEDFGbn48J%2FJLleNu34NRUfrSSJeU|tkp%3ABk9SR-LyroWQZg Hopefully arriving in the next few days, I will update when I can.
MSM Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 Thanks, that would be good to know. I’m not sure how that one would fit in the factory cut camera hole, but keen to hear how you get on.
Gamith Posted August 7 Posted August 7 It doesn't fit in the hole, mores the pity, but a previous owner fitted a similar one, screwing into the bodywork. I am hoping the replacement fits and gives a wider angle view.
Philllx Posted August 10 Posted August 10 https://amzn.eu/d/eK6xo3m I replaced mine with this, works well connected to a pioneer head unit, Had to make a diy mount, fitted through the original gap ok. Such an improvement on the original only issue the reverse light reflects on it quite a bit when dark no issues in daylight, it is a led bulb maybe a standard type bulb won't be so bad. 1
Gamith Posted Monday at 12:19 PM Posted Monday at 12:19 PM So my one had a 'previous owner supplied' unit which was ugly and impractical. I have now got a similar unit which attaches in the same location, but it's equally not pretty or uses the original wiring loom - it has it's own 12v feed and video feed. None the less here is my solution. A good point is that I can tilt the camera up and down to get a better view, currently it has the bumper in view and a few feet beyond that, but also I get a much wider view - I can see both sides of a parking bay, where before I was only seeing a zoomed in view of the very back of the bay. This camera does a much better job.
