Hi all,

Only a matter of time before I end up scalping myself on the low-flying boot door of our 2008 Alphard V. If only it would open up a few inches higher…

Aha! Next to the near side damper, is this a restrictor to limit the height the door will raise to? If so, can I remove or adjust it? Can’t see any reference to it in the manual and can’t find any info online. Am I the only one with this problem? (I’m 6’1”, so not unnaturally tall!) I’d appreciate any light yous lot can shed on this matter.

Hello there!

Nope, that's the connecting arm for the motor opener.

The length of the gas struts is what determines the maximum lift.

I replaced our struts as it wasn't quite reaching fully open position, they were weak, it would go another couple of inches if pushed manually.

I've just been out and measured it, and it's just about 5' 10" to the lowest point in the middle of the tailgate.

Personally neither of us have never had a problem - lol.

Oh yes! I've shrunk over the years, age is a wonderful thing!

Down to 5ft 7½" 😁

I got them from Aliexpress.com complete with the end brackets!

Around £30 the pair I think, last December.

Thanks for the replies. The struts won’t go any higher. So the only way I can get the boot to raise a few more inches is to change the struts for ones with a longer reach?

But then they would be potentially too long to allow the boot to close....

Arghhh, spose I’ll just have to continue with the stooping thing then - at least until age starts shrinking me too (maybe not too far off…) :D
