Hi folks,

Engine light been coming on over past few weeks (Alphard 2006 2.4 Petrol ANH10), so got a local garage to stick the diagnostic tester on it today. Fault PO171, and the suspect is the EVAP carbon canister because when smoke tested there's fuel vapour literally pouring out of it! Might not cure the fault, but need to get a new one anyway - garage's supplier quoted 500 quid (!) for the part but helpfully supplied the part number (77740-28192). Can find it online from various parts companies in Japan, prices anything from £75 to £150 plus shipping (£20-£40, not sure about customs fees on top of that). Anyone had any experience with ordering from automotomarine_store on ebay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/automotomarinestore), or Nengun (https://www.nengun.com/) or Amayama https://www.amayama.com/?

Will order and get the garage to replace the PCV valve at the same time I reckon, may as well get it done as these seem to be fairly cheap!

Will let you know how it turns out.....

I have used amayama several times and they are excellent - it takes a while to arrive but original parts at reasonable prices (on the whole - depends of what you are buying and what you think is reasonable) also very useful to make sure you are getting the correct part.

Thanks. Amayama say 77 plus shipping so we'll give it a go. Ordered a PCV valve also (part 12204-28020). It's a very easy to use site so that bodes well. Total is under £135 so hopefully only VAT to pay on top rather than customs duty!

I have ordered about 8 items from amayama in the last 3 years and not once paid any custom charges I think this is because I had the items sent to my home address and not a business address

When I had a PO171 code - System too lean (bank 1) - I initially changed the MAF sensor, which didn't make a difference, and ended up replacing the O2 sensor in the exhaust, which was a pain as the previous person had broken the thread and I had to get a new tap and die (M18 x1.5) to cut the thread out again - I only did it up hand tight as I didn't want to break the new thread.

Still working fine though.

As :Picasso says, I believe the VAT threshold is about £135/138.

If you need to know exactly check HMRC.

I import quite a few items from Germany; hence my estimate.

Also check that the seller is shipping to you tax free.

On items above 138 ask the seller if they can export to the UK without Tax; otherwise you pay tax twice (including a tax on a tax).
