Hi All,

First of all a thank you for the help and advice over the last 3years, you have given me confidence to successfully have a go at quite a few things I would normally pay to get done. Quids in.πŸ‘

I've recently invested in an Ancel jb700 jobd reader to help me resolve an intermittent EML issue and I'm having a problem getting the reader and alphie to chat properly. I've managed to extract a fault code, 0174, currently investigating further and happy to progress step by step. The obd reader can't connect for a diagnostic check and gives 4 possible reasons. See pictutes.

Not sure what No 4 means, if I've got one or how to turn it off. I'm still persevering but seem to be chasing my tail, any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the forum guidance I've cleaned the MAF sensor and so far the EML has stayed off, with it being an intermittent fault I'm not holding my breath but you never know.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Grumpygrandad.

Just had a run out in the alphie and went up two hills with a 100% history of EML illumination and the EML stayed off. Cleaning the MAF sensor seems to have worked.πŸ‘

I just need to sort out my obd reader and all will be well in my little world.

This forum is a mine of useful information.

Thanks.

Blooming marvellous result mate!

Wish I could help on the reason it won't talk to your Alphie. I'm sure you did, but was tbe sequence:

Plug in tbe connector to the old port

See what comes up on the diagnostic screen

Turn to ignition on but not start

My dirt cheap Bluetooth reader will connect to our 2010, for quite a few readings, but won't even recognise its plugged in to my Renault!!

Hi BigNev

My reader sparks into life as soon as you plug it in but can't read anything until you turn the ignition to on, dash lights on, engine not running. It then picks up any existing fault codes. When I start the engine and go to the live diagnostics they give each other the silent treatment.

Just having the error code was enough to help me stumble in the right area to 🀞resolve 🀞the original issue but I would like to use all the reader functions incase of any further issues.

As with most problems in my life it's probably down to operator error. 🀣

My next plan is to plug it in to another car and see if it functions properly.

Thanks for the guidance and taking the trouble to reach out.

No worries pal!

On the initial start up, does the machine give a menu or option to select the "protocol" for communication?

It might be just totally automatic, but may not 🀷

Yes it does, I select Toyota then it checks the codes. I'll attach some pictures.

  1. Initial connection ignition off

  2. Ignition on, engine not running select Toyota.

  3. Searching for codes.

  4. Error codes found.

No Error codes because I cleaned the MAFπŸ₯³ and cleared the code.

  5. Return to initial screen and go through same sequence as in the first post, with engine running.

I can see we are going down the route of operator error, very wise. I should get a chance to try the reader in a different vehicle today so I will update the post then.

    Thanks for helping. πŸ‘

Ah, right then , on the screen with the OBD11 option, if you can select JOBD it should, in theory, connect up.

Fingers crossed!!

Thanks for the information, I've updated the software and given it a go this morning but I can't select JOBD as I don't know how to bring it up on a menu. There is not much that can be changed on tool setup but I have tried mertic and imperial to no avail so I've used the feedback button to send the data to Ancel in the hope they can help.

But.....

The EML is still off.πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Thanks Bignev

Morning Owen!

Is there an "Enter" button to press when the screen is on the "OBD11" display as tbe picture above?

Wonder if that might take it to a screen to choose protocol?

Cheers mate!

Morning Bignev,

There is an enter button which takes you immediately to "entering system" with no protocol choice then it fails to connect. I've had a good read of the manual and done some Google searches and found that the jp700 is Japanese car specific and should auto detect which protocol it needs so I'm going to send the feedback to Ancel.

I love the fact we are still trying to eliminate operator error. 🀣 the most likely cause.

Thanks for your patience. 😁

Well, I'm more on the path of working with you, through a lack of clear instructions for an item, rather than the operator error!

At least yours, you said, has come with a manual, because I'm personally fed up with "things" coming without the least bit of a printed idea how to fit / wire / use them!!

A good example would be the manual for these cars, I'm sad, I had one printed out, about 150 A4 sheets, double sided with 2 pages per side! And read it!! Found a few little things I'd never have discovered in a million years!

Like linking the auto seat position to the remote entry button.

But anyway, the most important thing is that currently the EML is off πŸ‘

My life has always been a long sequence of operator error 🀣. I did have to download the manual and I'm too tight to print it so electronic copy only. Printing a whole manual is pretty impressive, did you need 150 double sided A4 or did you accidentally press multiple copies😁, I've done that.

Thanks for your support Bignev, it's much appreciated. I will update whenever I get a solution.

Take care Bud.πŸ˜‰

HeeHee!

Ah well it least there actually was one to download!

I do prefer paper, I'm a bit of a Luddite!

Cos when I'm working on a boiler (gas engineer so I'm allowed to πŸ˜…) a tiny little thing on my phone is not so easy to see at my age and my eyesight! Yes, I know, I can make it bigger!

And paper doesn't inadvertently skip 20 pages when I touch the wrong bit of the screen.......

Yes, it was all those sheets! Over 600 actual A5 pages!

I didn't print it myself, I had my local printers do it and bind it, about Β£40. Probably cheaper than me buying the ink!

£40 That's nearly half a tank of petrol or 50miles in my 3 litre beast.🀣

But..........

At least the EML is still off.

I wonder if sorting the MAF out will improve my MPG / GPM.πŸ€”

Well, it shouldn't make it worse.......

I did ours a couple of months ago when I changed the spark plugs. I don't think it's altered anything for us sadly, even though it was visibly dirty.

Ours does run on LPG most of the time.

Me, I would leave it and see if the problem returns!
