Replacement bulbs for headlights

Featured Replies

Hi. I've had my Alphard less than 2 years and now need a replacement bulb for dipped headlight. Have discovered (by visiting Halfords and reading my English version handbook) that this isn't simple. Does anyone know how to buy these bulbs and the procedure for fitting one of these - thro a Toyoya garage.

I also want to carry spare bulbs for front /rear lights. Can I buy these thro EBay or Amazon? Or Halfords for the more usual bulbs if I can identify what I need?

Hope someone can advise.

Thanks for that info. I wouldn't have thought to see it embossed in the bodywork. Fancy the Manager of Chichester Halfords not knowing this!

Can I fit it myself? (as in can my son fit this bulb?) I am an older female Alphard owner & don't want o attempt changing bulbs. The handbook says I must go to Toyota garage!

Dipped headlight is working again, without replacing the bulb.

I read in the translated manual that these HID bulbs can stop working when the inside of the light cluster has become damp & disturbs the 'range of operating current '

Dipped headlights suddenly not working has happened to me before - I thought perhaps a loose connection but not so.

Have other owners had this problem? Very disconcerting when it happens. It was a wet night last week when this last happened, but only on the nearside light.

Luckily I don't drive the Alphard much after dark.

Hi there Carolyn!

Yes you can fit it, it's a doddle for anyone remotely handy.

Also, check your local autofactors, you will be able to get them from there, and should be a good price.

But then I got a pair of D4S from Aliexpress for £15, by Sukioto from Japan, and they've been in and working since September, all through winter, every early morning on my wife's drive to work.

PLEASE do not go to ANY garage for that job!!!

Cheers, Nev

Thanks Nev, that's good news. But turns out the bulb is working again! Damp inside the headlight cluster causing a problem maybe?

Hid bulbs will start to flicker once hot, when they are starting to fail.

If they do flicker you can usually get them to work again for 10 mins by letting them cool down.

The best way to check is to switch them on for 10 mins at night and see if they start to flicker.

Eventually they will fail completely.

They are sealed by the weather proof cap, to prevent moisture. So i doubt that is the problem.

You say you don't drive it much at night.

So i will say this sounds like the bulb is starting to fail, but you won't notice.
