Towbar Installation Advice ?

Featured Replies

Hi

I am looking to install a towbar on my Series 10 2006 Alpard 3.0 ltr for the purposes of attaching a bike carrier, it won't be used for towing.

I have found what seems to be the only one towbar available for the series 10 model which is available here - https://www.pctautomotive.com/towbars/info/all/toyota/alphard/mpv/2002-2007/TY3565/5719

Oddly, the same towbar by the same manufacturer also appears to on ebay https://ebay.io/m/3UJKnw for around half the price (?!)

What I would like to know is - if I buy this, can I ask any towbar fitter to install ? Do I need to buy anything else or will the ebay kit be complete ?

I have been quoted 250 quid to install if I buy the above.

Do I need to worry about electric hookup or something like that?

I have never installed or had a tow bar so I am on unfamiliar ground.

Thank you in advance

My only bit of advice is that you may well need a towing towing board with the indicators on as the bikes may block peoples views of your lights. Do a search for 'Trailer Lighting Board' and you will see what I mean.

For that you will need the correct socket fitted to the tow-bar and wired up of course.

Depending on the bike holder of course as it's possible that your choice may come with one (i.e. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186953766202?toolid=20006&customid=d8060248dcab192c6bdd68906f30c7dc%7C%7C&loc_physical_ms=162565.

There are some bike holders that pull out to make accessing the rear door easier. Search for 'Tilting and Folding Bike Rack' or there are some towbars that swivel out of the way, though getting one to fit an Alphard may not be possible.

I hope this helps.
