Hi. My 2008 (AH20) Vellfire 2.4 has a timing chain. I'm pretty certain all the 2.4 models have them? John Harrison. Wallasey, Wirral. -

Hi. 1 UK Gallon=4.546 litres The handbook for my 2.4 Vellfire says they do a max of 33mpg. I have confirmed this several times on runs. Round town this may be less??? John Harrison. Wallasey -
Hi. Mine need doing again as I didn't get time to lacquer them after cleaning last time. A gentle abrasive is required to removed the old lacquer, a polish up, wash and re-laquer, then done. Someone suggested to me that cheap toothpaste is abrasive enough to work, I tried it, and, hey presto, it worked!!! As I said, I didn't get round to laquering them, but will do again shortly. I masked off the painwork first and then rubbed in using a firm sponge. Some people use a rotary polisher. It was hard work by hand, but only cost me 99p for the toothpaste! I believe you can use TCut although that is much more expense; and believe it or not, the toothpaste smells better!!! Halford or B&Q should be able to recommend a lacquer. John Harrison. Hi. I have a 2008 2.4 Vellfire and have just fitted new rear discs. Since then the parking brake pedal has moved lower toward the floor. Is there any adjustment on the brake cable or shoes on the parking brake? Or is it that I need new shoes or cable? John Harrison. Wirral

Considering new purchase
John Harrison replied to Amicipat's topic in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
Hi. Our Vellfire is a 2008 2.4 Petrol auto. I fitted a £7.50 Cruise Control lever to our Vellie and never looked back. Around town I get about 25 to 28 mpg and on a run I am getting between 31 and 33 mpg. It does change down and rev quite highly on steep hills but I have been told by about 6 mechanics that this engine is bullet proof and as highly recommended by all of them. Each of them told me that I made the best choice as the 3.5 is thirsting and harder to work on as there is not as much space in the engine compartment. I am not a mechanic, but I have had numerous types of vehicle over the years and the only one that gets close to the Vellfire was my Chrysler Grand Voyager 2.7 Diesel. The Vellfire is one of the best I have had; like driving an armchair!!! A wonderful vehicle. John Harrison. Wallasey, Wirral. -

Wrong tyres fitted?
John Harrison replied to Lord Iffy Boatrace's topic in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
Hi. My 2008 type 20 Vellfire had 205 55 17s tyres on it when I bought it. I bought a translated Handbook shortly after I bought the car and mine should have (and has now) 215 60 17s (Goodyear) the ride is much better now and my cruise control now does the correct 68/9mph on the motorway. It was only doing 63/64mph with the old tyres. Most tyre dealers should becable to advise. I used to use Goodyears on my Chrysler Voyager. They were always the best!!! John Harrison. Hi. Just a thought. Is it that it needs a service, or perhaps (?) In Japan, I've heard that at about 35,000 miles you are required to have an engine rebuild or replace the engine? I can't confirm this is true, but have heard this from about 3 dealers! John Harrison. Wallasey Wirral. (2008 2.4 Vellfire) -

Hi. 26" and 16" front. 16" rear. You can't get them all the time, but the ones they sell in Lidl are good when in stock. I bought 2 sets last time they were in. They are good quality. I can't remember the make at present, but a good make also much cheaper than car shops! John Harrison. (2008, 20 series Vellfire). -

couple of questions
John Harrison replied to pipsyp's topic in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
Hi. My son put a new stereo in my 2008 Vellfire. There were two sensors for Japanese tolls, one for Japanese TV as well as an aerial for the radio. Mine also has aerial wires on the rear side windows which we still use. The new stereo is only about 2" thick compared to the original 6" deep. The toll equipment has all been taken out, as well as the TV equipment (a box full altogether). The new stereo is digital, and has several new sensors. I have had to leave the old aerials on the windscreen, but the new system works very well. About the keyless entry. The best advise I can give is have a word with your local TOYOTA dealer; they are very helpful. Good look John Harrison. Wallasey, Wirral -

Andy. Try buying new clips. You might be able to get them off ebay, or, the more expensive option, any TOYOTA dealer. You might have to order them. John Harrison. (2008 Vellfire).
