Brigiboo Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Hello, We have just stumbled across the Alphards and think it's the vehicle for us. We would hope to use as everyday family car. I'm leaning towards the 2.4 because the mpg for the 3 or 3.5 is very low and would get costly. Could anyone advise? Is the 2.4 powerful enough for the size of vehicle? Is there much difference between the 2.4 and 3 / 3.5 in petrol costs and mpg? Are the second generation worth the extra money? Sorry fir all the queations and thank you so much for any advice. Brigid x
MonsterS Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 From my opinion the 2.4 is a great vehicle, however if you are going up and down hills alot the 3L would be a better choice as you have to put your foot down more and use more fuel. Most people get the 3L/2.4/3.5 converted to LPG too which has a very impressive economy rate for fuel. I own a 3L and never looked back as it's a perfect van. The servicing is easy to do and less hassle. The difference between engines is that the 3L is easy to read for faults and has a timing belt and the 2.4 can be tricky to diagnose and has a timing chain.
Alphard Club Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I have a 3litre and love it. first thing i did was LPG conversion. Saved a bomb and monthly do around 500 miles for around £80. More miles if doing long run. Recommend Profess Autogas
