Great news, a little hassle, but considerably cheaper than an aftermarket kit fitted by an installer!

I do wonder why Toyota thought this simple control stalk was a worthy cost cutting/optional extra!

 

On the pre-facelift models, this wouldnt work without the more expensive controllers, because it was a mechanical throttle cable.

Quite pleased how it went. Perhaps the Japanese road system isn't big enough to warrant or allow much cruising??

Hello I have fitted cruise control on my alphard however car isn’t recognised it my guess is red wire isn’t connected properly it says on video just push into slot as far as you can 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️I have ??

If it was the microwave radar cruise control, then yes, you need the extra emitter and ecu.

 

If you look at the parts list for pre april 2005 alphards (pre facelift) - you will see that the control mechanism is based on mechanical connections to the throttle.

Post april 2005, the throttle is fully electric, so the additional control mechanisms are not required, the stalk literally just sends a signal to the ecu to hold throttle position and adjust to maintain wheel speed.

 

If you wanted to have the auto speed adjust based on distance from vehicle in front, that will require more electronics.

Thats right - the older cable controlled throttles do not have the same mechanism, therefore the ECU cannot control the throttle position to adjust speed.

 

You will need a seperate controller and mechanical actuator that connects to the existing throttle cable to simulate you pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal.

By its very nature and parts requirement, it will be more expensive - there are kits available (or at least there were), you may need to look for older Granvia/Hiace setups.

I am looking at a 2004 Alphard. doesnt have cruise control and i need it as i do alot of miles. Will the stalk upgrade work on a 2004? or will i need an aftermarket kit?

 

I had fitted a Conrad Anderson kit to my old hiace van which works well. not like factory but well enough to maintain speed etc. 

They do a kit for the Alphard also but its £750. Thought might be worth a mention.

 

Yes i had a similar kit in my hiace, has been working well for 5 or 6 years now with 60'000miles. They were also very helpful

Check your throttle housing. 

If its mechanical with a cable, you need a kit

 

If its an electronic motor, you may get away with the cruise stalk.

Welcome to the Forum.

 

As 2005 is a crossover year from Gen 1 to Gen 1 facelift, you need to inform us which model you have.

 

From memory, the facelift will take a retrofit cruise control, the earlier model won't.

If you haven't already, read what Chris.ac has to say in this thread.

It depends on whether you have a mechanical throttle, or not; if you need the upgrade to be easy and inexpensive.

Is this model mechanical throttle or not?

I need to do this on my AH10 facelift at some point.

 

Annoying for the sake of a stalk and a flip on the wiring on the facelifts that Toyota didn't just put it on these as standard.....cost cutting at the extreme 😂

Is it the same stalk for the later generation too? Just got my 2009 Vellfire, would be a nice little upgrade.

I posted in a other forum but thought I'd just share here that I bought the £10 stalk off eBay for my 2008 Vellfire and it fitted super easy and cruise control works. (No light on dash to confirm it's on but soon get used to that). 

 

So a success thanks to this forum.  

Today I had my cruise control stalk delivered, the instalation took me 15 min. Once I removed the airbag I noticed that I already have the connector for the cruise control there, was just a matter of plug and play.  Test it and all works great. All is left is to cutout the cover. Because I had to disconnect the battery, I have to reset the throttle now. Does anyone know how exactly? I have seen a few ways, but not sure which one is the correct way! @Chris.ac, maybe you know?

Just drive for a few miles, it relearns the fuel trims.

It does this automatically when you change grade of fuel too.

 

You can also buy a new blanking plate that already has the cutout, it's common across many Toyota models.

I'm looking to add cruise to my 2003 3.0.

I know it has been done before using an Rx300 actuator with cable, auris or similar 4 pin brake switch, previa cc ECU and control arm.  I have wiring diagrams etc.

 

I have checked and I have the correct plug under the bonnet, I have the 4 pin wiring for the brake switch but I can't find the plug for the ECU.. I thought it may be behind the coin holder thing under the door switches but I can't see it.  Now looks like it could be under dash behind stereo near glovebox. 

 

Does anyone know for definite where the cc ECU is so I can chase the plug down please?!
