Ian C Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 I have just bought a 2008 ALphard 3litre and have calculated the fuel consumption to be 15.5 mpg. Is there any advise as to what could be causing the low reading . I took to a garage who changed the spark plugs and tested the emissions and which are in the acceptable ranges. Ian C
MonsterS Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 full service? Did you put a full tank of premium fuel in instead of standard? Are you town driving? I get around town between 15 - 20 mpg depending on how i drive. on motorways i get between 20 - 30 mpg.
kendo Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Make sure the gear lever is in D and not 4 otherwise the MPG will plummit. 1
Alphard Club Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 As Kendo suggests, this is one of the most common causes of high MPG Check that first Consider LPG conversion, we reduced our MPG by 40%. We had a stag system fitted by Profess Autogas
Ian C Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Thanks for the replies. I have been using Regular fuel and definitely in D not 4 gear setting. I have had it in to a garage who have put in new spark plugs and done a road test attached to the ECU which has reported that the consumption is averaging 24.8 mpg???? The other tests done on the engine have readings in the spec ranges , so I am told. No issues have been flagged from all this testing.
MonsterS Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Worth bunging in a full tank of premium and going on a nice long road trip. I did that and noticed my fuel consumption went up. since then i put a full tank of premium in every 20 -30 fill ups.
