drew12 Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 hi I've been trying to get the car started for the past week I've tried everything to get it going its had a new ignition switch tested the battery and starter all seem fine but when you put the key in the ignition you get power until you try to crank the engine then i just get a flash of the lights on the dash and that is it no crank or nothing, i have also tried starting the car in neutral but that doesn't work either. if anyone could shine some light on this it would be very much appreciated as i am pulling my hair out with it now thanks.
Picasso Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Could be the park neutral switch also have you had a diagnostic test
dezufo Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 If the dash lights are going off when you try to start it then there is a major voltage drop, if your battery is more than 5yrs old then it could have a faulty cell, check all terminals are clean & tight on the battery, starter and the solenoid, if you can start it with a battery off another car then you know that yours is kaput
drew12 Posted August 6, 2023 Author Posted August 6, 2023 ive have a new batter put on this week and the starter motor gas been off and tested, that was fine I have tried to get a diagnostic done but when they plugged it in the ODB wouldn't power the reader
Picasso Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 (edited) Check all fuses sounds like a fuse has blown have you shorted the battery when putting new battery on by putting leads on wrong way round Edited August 6, 2023 by Picasso Spelling
kev1839 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Could very well be a bad earth too . Make sure all the connections to the bodywork are clean and tight

I've been told that Jap vehicles have to have a different diagnostics plug in to ours. They can be bought on the internet, I believe? John Harrison. Wirral.
John Harrison Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Other owners may be able to confirm this? JBH.

drew12 Posted August 6, 2023 Author Posted August 6, 2023 Could anyone tell me where to find the starter relay please, is it the main box under the bonnet or the one next to the battery

It might not tell you why it doesn't crank.

It shows that the "doors open" light remains on when you attempt to crank. That probably means your battery is fine. The OBD reader not being powered could be the OBD fuse gone. That's fuse 10 in the box by the driver's seat.

MonsterS Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Could be the imobiliser chip, you said you had a new Ignition barrell fitted. Was it programmed afterwards to match your master key?

Rojie Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 3 minutes ago, drew12 said: I only have one behind the dash on the driver's side Your model is the Gen 1, pre-face lift version. Mine is the post face lift version. The JPNZ Owners Handbook definitely states fuse 10 in the fuse box by the drivers seat. Does the fuse box you have have 10 fuses, no more ? My model is an MZ G Edition; so your seats are probably not the same as mine. I'm sorry I cannot help further.
