Hi Guys, I have a question. My Alphard is a 2005, 2,4 Hybrid.
I had a question today that I couldn't answer.
Is this model ULEZ COMPLIANT?
TOYOTA ,ALPHARD ,2005,CAA-ATH10W

Can you please answer me this question with certainty?

Hi there, Go onto the DVLA website, find Ulez and put in your reg No. They should tell you straight away wether yours is compliant.

Hello Greg.

Is your van a Gen 1 or a Gen 1 facelift ?

Either way try the TfL website. (Transport for London).

Posted

If you put your Reg into the TFL website it will tell you if it is or not.

I have the same model and TFL shows it as ULEZ compliant.

Posted

My 2008 57 plate AH10 2.4 shows as compliant.

Not sure if it's age related, or whether they are just more friendly towards Japanese imports (because they don't know what the emissions are).

Posted

its based on the Japanese emissions regulations.

check your rear window, it might still have the japanese sticker on it that will either state 2000, 2002 or 2005 in its eco declaration.

If you have 2000 or 2002, you are out of luck. 2005 is basically euro 4 spec in the eyes of DVLA, so ULEZ compliant

Posted

I have a COC Certificate from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Homologation Certificate from the Homologation Department stating that the car is an EURO 4 equivalent vehicle.

Posted

Can you please confirm, any of you that it is a ULEZ Exempt vehicle? My firm believes it is, but I have a buyer who is hesitant. It really is doing my head in.

Why don't you take the advice of members ?

Try Transport for London, I would be very surprised if they don't have it listed.

Or just drive into London !

You will soon find out.

What is your registration ?

Send it by Personal Mail if you are unhappy going public with it.

LW55 CFL, this website says it is ULEZ compliant https://ulez.co.uk/you-dont-need-to-pay-ulez/?vrn=LW55CFL, yet TFL says differently.

TFL rules and requirements state that the vehicle needs to be a EURO 4 Petrol or Hybrid ,

My V5C states it is an Elec-Hybrid, plus I have a COC which TLF wants as such as evidence from the Vehicle Manufacturer and from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Homologation Certificate from the Homologation Department.

I have all this, yet this guy still doesn't believe that it is ULEZ.

it  is but I cannot really have any more tools, or anything for that matter to convince him that it is genuinely an ULEZ exempt vehicle

Hello again Greg,

I have had a look at DVLA, hoping that would add more clarity. But it didn't !

(A green Alphard. I have not seen one in that colour yet).

The DVLA has the vehicle as first registered in December 2005 (in Japan).

However, the original Gen 1 was discontinued in April 2005; being replaced by a facelifted version.

So I am unsure which version you have. Do you know ?

Is that of any relevance ? Maybe, maybe not !

Whilst not definitive, it is generally believed that the latter model is ULEZ compliant and the former is not; at least officially.

Other members (not necessarily with the hybrid version) have had similar problems.

Hopefully, one of them can enlighten you.

Mine is the latter version, the colour code is Olive green metallic. The main and most important difference probably is that I paid 400 pounds fair and square for the Japanese DVLA, the government department for the COC which is black and white undeniable evidence that the car is euro 4.On top of that the Austrian vehicle licence agency also tested and checked my car and classified it as an EURO 4  vehicle. I was there for a 7 month assignment and you can only drive a foreign car for a month. I had to go through the whole miserable process but I also have documentation from them stating it is an EURO 4 petrol and Hybrid vehicle. This is why I am annoyed out of my head...if anything would be short, if I wouldn't have everything in place I would definitely say that it in not sure and it is not the case, but it is the opposite, I have more registration and more official papers than anybody I know owning these vehicles...

this document is something that I got in 2021. The car was imported in 2019 and I bought it from the dealer. Every government-issued paperwork is recognised in the UK. I have not tried or used any of it as I didn't need to register the car as ULEZ. There isn't any government in this whole wide world that would not recognise manufacturer-issued government-approved paperwork. You Guys are really champions of doom days saying and no positive support aren't you? Under what assumption would you say what you said, I have no idea.

Pretty sure all facelift AH10s are effectively Euro 4 compliant.  All the prospective buyer needs to worry about is whether the TfL site says it's compliant or not.

Unfortunately (and I think it's often down to how they are imported and registered in the UK), some show compliant, others such as yours don't.  You could reach out to TfL with the evidence of Euro 4 compliance and they'll probably amend the online record, I am sure others have done this but I'd imagine it's a pretty tedious job!

The buyer probably needs to lighten up TBH, even if these cars are currently ULEZ compliant, way things are going they probably won't be for that much longer.....if they live in a ULEZ area or would be using it to travel into it alot I'd question if an Alphard is the right vehicle for them anyway.

Ironically, the ULEZ checker states it is compliant, and TfL states (by omission) it isn't !

The ULEZ checker also states it sources data from TfL ! Which it acknowledges may not be correct !

Just to make matters worse, as Pal says, ULEZ areas will expand.

Unfortunately, the next expansion of the ULEZ area is 29th August !

The Elgrand folk seem to have got their act together. It seems you can apply for an exemption if you can evidence compliance with technical info.

Does anybody know if the 2.4 and 3.0 are compliant according to tech Specs and where copies of said Specs can be acquired.

Attached outlines the process.

I just checked TfL again !

Today it's COMPLIANT  !

I know, I just had to send the PDF for them. I knew it would be. But sadly I had to sell it 2 days ago. Way less than what it's worth...broke my heart...The greatest joy it was and the greatest stress and more disappointment than any car in my life...the amount of worry, sadness and stress I experienced with this one is and it was excruciating.

Hello Greg,

So sorry to hear of all the hassle you have had with this Alphard.

Perhaps you could consider a newer model if you come to miss this one too much.

Whatever, best of Good Luck to you, it seems you could do with some.

Thank you very much!

I am not sure I will recover from this as per trust. The newer versions are out of my pocket. A normal petrol type I may consider but it has to have a foolproof service history and conditions...All I am seeing these days are desperate posts about head gaskets and sorts...meaning that those advertisements saying that low milage and wonderful and hardly used are just lies...

There are some very good examples out there.

But, imho, as the marque has become more popular they may be an increasing number of 'less than perfect' vehicles.

I always recommend dealing with an established Alphard retailer, with their own servicing facilities on site.

There are much fewer of this type of reseller.

There are many outlets that are metal box shifters, i.e. perhaps a 'stereotype second hand care salesperson'.

I have sent you a PM.
