Gamith Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) Good afternoon all, Has anyone seen this icon before? its started flashing and I had to grab a video to see what it actually is. It still flashes when the car is locked up. I have checked the doors and they all close. The Alphard locks up Ok so I don't think it's that. I have recently had two extra keys made and programmed up but they have been working fine for around a week but that's the only key-related activity I can think of. I need to sort out the power though as there have been quite a few modifications to it and at least one fuse blows on a regular basis and takes out the touchscreen on the head unit and also makes the sonar beep a lot - though of course this might just be other issues popping up. 🙄 The flashing light goes off when I put the key in the ignition but comes back on again after I remove it. The ODB reader only shows a 'P0171 Syetem too lean (Bank 1)' error which I have cleared once - it's come back so I will have to look at that but I doubt it's got anything to do with this. Maybe it is telling me the battery in the key 'fob' is low? Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Cheers Paul Edited January 17 by Gamith
Picasso Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Hello Paul it’s your immobiliser light flashing it’s supposed to that the code is for your front fuel ratio sensor if you want a drawing and part no. Pm me your reg no.
Gamith Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 'click in head goes off' This morning when I was checking the codes (as the check engine light had come on) and I first saw the P0171 code, there was also a 'B2799 Engine Immobiliser System' code. So clearing the P0171 code is an obvious issue as it has returned. As the B2799 code had not returned I assumed it must have happened when the new keys were being programmed and promptly forgot about it. I was obviously a little hasty in that - if this light is the immobiliser system then obviously something is wrong with it. The strange thing is that there is no error code for it now. Hmm curiouser and more curious.
Charlie Brown Posted January 17 Posted January 17 The handbook says 'SECURITY DISPLAY LIGHT. The display light will flash when the key is pulled out of the ignition and the security system starts operation.' On our 2008 model it goes out when you lock the car.

Ours used to behave itself but now continues to flash unless the key is in the ignition.
Gamith Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Looking at this: The conclusion seemed to be that 'As far as I’m aware, this light indicates the engine immobiliser is active. Just a security thing.' is it normally supposed to flash, but there was an issue and clearing the error via the OBD has caused it to work again? I will be putting a bottle of 'Wynns Catalytic Converter & Lambda Cleaner' in the tank tomorrow and then cleaning the MAF sensor with 'Halfords Electrical Contact Cleaner 500ml' to see if either help - it shouldn't hurt at least. I am also hoping to install a couple of these 'https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265653102036' which I am amazed to find come with bright LEDs already fitted! I reckon they sent me these instead https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265450629110?itmmeta=01JHTYPQRZ7ZGVG4AQ9QE2Z02C&hash=item3dce1727f6:g:ROEAAOSwtCthtzo5. Not that I will be complaining.
starider Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Hi, Read somewhere that these cleaners are a waste of time and money. Obviously it's everyones choice, but I seem to remember questioning on Google some time ago and the comments were not very favourable. I just changed the sensor [pre- before the front cat.and about to change the after cat.
starider Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Sorry forgot to say, I have the numbers of both sensors if required. Ours is a 2007. 2.4.
Gamith Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 Cheers @starider - I will put the additive in and give the MAF a good clean and see whether the P0171 code stops appearing. If not then those numbers will come in handy.

Not that I will be complaining. the flashing car symbol is supposed to flash when ever the key is not in the ignition, it indicates that the immobiliser is working 1

Good evening starider - is there any chance of finding those numbers please? My 2005 failed it's pre-MoT on: Exhaust carbon monoxide content at idle exceeds manufacturers specified limits [8.2.1.2(b)] Exhaust lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits [8.2.1.2(c)] Exhaust carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits [8.2.1.2(b)] I have cleaned the MAF and put come cleaner in the fuel but have yet to locate the lambda sensors. I will also be changing the fuel pump filter - are there any recommendations or ones to avoid? https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/fuel-filter-10361/toyota/alphard/alphard-ath1-mnh1-anh1/25589-2-4-anh10w shows quite a few but none are Denso. Advisories which I am less fussed about: Two tyres are close to needing replacement and one of my 5 brake lights isn't working (this is the one I know that works when I take the tailgate apart and then stops after I put it all back together again)
starider Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Hi, the numbers I used are: Front Sensor[font of engine on heat shield R/H--89465. After cat.[next to mounting bracket]- 89465. Check the length of the wiring. When I received the new sensor the cables were too short.A set of longer wires are available with heat shrink joiners. 1
