Hillclimber Posted July 26 Posted July 26 In amongst other jobs, I wanted to sort out why the fog light warning light on the dash is displayed permanently. The switch in picture 1 is for the aftermarket rear fog light and the in-switch warning light for that works fine. So, first question is am I missing the front fog light switch completely? Second, in removing the drop-down coin tray thingy, below the steering column I found this extra device, in picture 2. It looks like it might be a mini-disc player, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else come across anything similar?
Gamith Posted July 26 Posted July 26 I believe the 'mini-disk player' is actually for a toll card that they use in Japan a lot. As for the front fog lights there should be a fog light symbol on the light control stalk that controls them - when selected there should be a fog light symbol on the dashboard.
dezufo Posted July 27 Posted July 27 I can confirm what Gamith has said, the toll card reader can be unplugged and removed, the power to it can be used for usb points if required, front fogs (and warning light) are controlled by the rotary switch on the lighting stalk

As the front fogs are using built in wiring, I'm wondering why the amber warning light for the front fogs is permanently on, no matter what position the switch is in. The fog lights themselves are working correctly.

Check if the light goes brighter if you switch the front fogs on

I did notice that when I removed one of the feed wires from the rear fog switch that the dash warning light briefly went out, but then came back on again. I do hate people who don't follow the rules about car wiring. They don't realise the problems they cause further down the line. Grrr! 1

By the look of it, that retro fitted switch is not quite the right one for a series 10, see link for correct one plus it shows what wire does what https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165029893993

For that money (and my peace of mind!) I will replace the current switch with this one. Then just got to pull the display out so I can see what wires have been messed with. 1
