Malcolm G Posted Thursday at 07:35 AM Posted Thursday at 07:35 AM Hello - New member having just bought a newly imported 2010 350 - Apologies if this is an existing thread, but can anyone tell me how to stop the mirrors folding every time I lock the vehicle? Have looked online but to no avail.
Voodoo101 Posted Thursday at 11:06 AM Posted Thursday at 11:06 AM If you get an OBD reader, you can get the free Carscanner app. This will let you alter this and other setting like being able to close and open windows on the remote, light sensetivity. I bought a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD2 and it works great
BigNev Posted Thursday at 07:11 PM Posted Thursday at 07:11 PM (edited) Hi Malcolm! My guess is you are going to love it! I can highly recommend the "JPNZ" owners manuals! I actually bought one before we had the car, we were fairly sure that we were having one! They are not a workshop manual, but they give lots of bits of useful information how little functions work, that may take a lot of figuring out otherwise. I did also download an owners manual a member very kindly put on the forum, about May this year I think, (can't find it right now) and got my local little print shop to print it out for me. It's 550 pages, but they printed it 2 to an A4 sheet and double sided. I may be a little sad, but it's interesting reading. I am that man who reads the manual whenever we got a "new" car 🤣 But anyway - your question - below the START button is a rectangular switch with AUTO on it and 2 pictures of the mirrors, top one out, bottom one in. On mine in the middle position it will fold / unfold on locking / unlocking. If you press it in at the top, they will stay out, at least they do on mine! Cheers, Nev Edited Thursday at 07:18 PM by BigNev
Rojie Posted Thursday at 08:09 PM Posted Thursday at 08:09 PM Yes JPNZ worth the investment. On my earlier model there is a switch to stop mirrors folding . Are you sure you don't have one too ?
Malcolm G Posted yesterday at 06:00 AM Author Posted yesterday at 06:00 AM Thank you very much to everyone for taking the time to respond. There is no button on my car that I can find that stops the mirrors folding in - I bought the car from an importer who has quite a few of these vehicles in stock and they did identify this button on other models in different dashboard locations, including one exactly where Neville said it would be, but on my car there is no such button or at least I can't find it and neither can the importer. I know that on some other Toyota models there is a function whereby you press and hold down the mirror fold button while pressing one of the arrows on the mirror position control button and this disables the automatic fold but I have tried this and it does not work. I do know a couple of Japanese people who I see occasionally and my current plan is to take the original Japanese owner's handbook when I next see them and pester them to figure it out. I am sure that getting an OBD reader is a good idea (thank you Craig) - I normally work on much older cars where they are not required, but I think on this vehicle it would be very wise to have one, I will look into the JPNZ manuals.
BigNev Posted yesterday at 06:49 AM Posted yesterday at 06:49 AM (edited) Well blooming heck! You live and learn! Let us know the technique if you get it sorted please! Cheers, Nev Edited yesterday at 06:49 AM by BigNev
Chris.ac Posted yesterday at 10:58 AM Posted yesterday at 10:58 AM What switch is fitted in the position where the folding mirror switch should be? Please post photo of the switches either side of the steering wheel. It's possible, a previous owner in Japan moved the physical switch behind the dash panel in order to free up the slot for something else. The fact your mirrors appear to have motors means there should be the wiring and therefore the switch in place. There are 3 mirror types. One is completely manual ( only has control for adjusting glass) One has fold and unfold via motor and a rocker switch. One has motor and rocker switch with an additional auto position. It's possible you have the second option, and an aftermarket module that uses the central locking signal to logic switch between the open/close states. To determine if you have the 2nd or 3rd option, check if you have auto tilt mirrors. With vehicle in reverse gear, flip the mirror adjust button ( the left right toggle between the center neutral position and either left or right. In the center position the mirror should be as normal, when moved to the left or right, the mirror will automatically adjust so the mirror tilt down to show the road. 1
Jimmympv Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Switch should look like this. You can also auto tilt the mirrors when you select reverse if you keep the left/right rocker switch on the door to one side or the other.
BigNev Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Ah ECO mode button, I wish I had it!! Sorry, off thread!
Malcolm G Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago Hello again As requested, the pictures are attached below, the toggle switch below the start button is the rear fog light installed by the importer. As regards the tilting mirrors - On my car, only the left hand side passenger side mirror tilts downwards when reverse is selected and it does this regardless of which position the L-R mirror adjustment switch is in. The little button in the door mounted controls that shows the mirrors folding will only fold the mirrors in when the ignition is on - It does not affect them folding in automatically when locking the car, which is what I was trying to prevent. Thanks again for the help.
