Air bleeder valve - coolant top up

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I need to top up the coolant in my 2007 2.4 Alphard and on the reservoir cap it says I need to open the air bleeder valve on the side of the radiator when I do this. Anyone know where to find it (I assume it is not just the other cap coming off the radiator hose)? Thanks a lot.

Jules

Hi Jules,

There’s a small plastic header tank on my 2002 2.4 Alphard, that’s where I check my coolant level.

So far I’ve never had level issues.

Great thanks gents.

Hi there! Perhaps a couple of pictures of the label, and the other cap, may help to assist with information!

Sure, here you are:

Ah, so then,

Does the hose from the radiator go to a connection on the expansion tank?

And the other hose off the lid of the expansion tank allows extreme excess to drip out to the floor?

I'm surmising, but the instructions may mean to remove the radiator cap, to fill the radiator, then put the expansion tank coolant level to the correct point. Unless there's something not shown in those photos at the back of the rad?

Because the expansion tank can be OK with a shortage of coolant in the radiator.

Anyone else have something I've not thought of?

Cheers, Nev

Hi Nev,

Thanks a lot - yep the hose off the lid of the expansion tank just routes down below the radiator and then ends - basically like an overflow. The other hose which comes off the radiator cap (with the red sticker in the engine bay pic) goes into the bottom of the expansion tank, so what you are saying totally makes sense. Cheers.

I'm taking it that "refilling the coolant" on that sticker really means flushing the radiator, not just doing a coolant top up - hence the need to open the air bleed valve??

Ah yes, that could be the actual meaning!

I'll try to remember to take a look at what ours says tonight!

The 2 stickers on ours are a warning for the fans, and the pressurised expansion bottle, usual warning not to open hot.

It doesn't have a radiator cap on the rad.
