Another 'What is this?'

Don't forget to let us know how you get on with fitting the new one. We might need to be following suit! -

Just to let everyone know that the part has been refitted. The two pivots (near the top of the item in my pic) fit into two holes on the underside of the main part. Positioned one pivot then pushed the other side up and it clicked into place. Now just need to test that it will hold a full cup without dropping. -
Door Lamp Missing.

Thanks Picasso! I found someone who is prepared to sell me a pair for £20, so hopefully that will mean I'm sorted. I found that parts list as well, and know that as a backup I can get them from Partsouq -

Thanks. That has answered the important question of how it fits! Now just got to see if I can put mine back together! -
Door Lamp Missing.
Hillclimber replied to Hillclimber's topic in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
Yes. I think some call it a puddle light. The previous owner was supposed to have replaced it, but was upfront by saying he hadn't managed to find one. I'm just going through my list of jobs that I found during my first month of ownership -
The door lamp (reflector assembly) is missing on the drivers door of my Alphard. Any ideas of anyone who could supply a replacement, please. TIA
-
I found this inside the large cubby bin at the bottom of the dash. Looks like it belongs somewhere in/on the dashboard but where?
-
Removed without any real problems. Just needed a quick tug with one of my trim tools and out it came. Now, able to see the wiring for the current rear fog lamp switch and what was done to the standard wiring. I believe the grey plug at top left of the pic was the standard connector. This had five wires. The green power and the wite/black earth wires have been cut off and connected to the top two terminals on the after market switch. The bottom two terminals on the switch have a red and a black wire in a sheath and heading towards the lamp. That leaves a wite/black, a grey and a green/wite wire still in the plug. AS there are only four wires on the new switch, which wire do I ignore form the standard wiring?
-
Do you know, I had looked at that and didn't see the separate panel. I was working on taking the whole grey panel out! So, trim removal tools at the ready, and a push from underneath and behind should work wonders!
-
Is that the whole grey panel or one of the switches, you are describing?
-
Now needing to see what is going on with the wiring behind the grey switch panel to the right of the steering wheel, how much if a wotsit is it remove?
-
Having purchased the switch recommended by Dezufo, i was assuming (quite wrongly) that the change from old to new would be straightforward. The current switch has four wires. Two red - one feed in; the other out to the single after market fog lamp - and two black. One black I assume is to earth the in switch warning light, but what would the other black be for? The new switch also has four wires, black for earth, red as feed in, green to lamp and a yellow marked as positive. What is the pupose of the yellow wire and what should it connect to? I thought I understood car electrics, but this has me really stumped!
-
Yet again, thanks for your pointer. For that money (and my peace of mind!) I will replace the current switch with this one. Then just got to pull the display out so I can see what wires have been messed with.
-
Thanks once again and good thinking! I did notice that when I removed one of the feed wires from the rear fog switch that the dash warning light briefly went out, but then came back on again. I do hate people who don't follow the rules about car wiring. They don't realise the problems they cause further down the line. Grrr!

Thanks to both you and Gamith for the replies. As the front fogs are using built in wiring, I'm wondering why the amber warning light for the front fogs is permanently on, no matter what position the switch is in. The fog lights themselves are working correctly.
-
In amongst other jobs, I wanted to sort out why the fog light warning light on the dash is displayed permanently. The switch in picture 1 is for the aftermarket rear fog light and the in-switch warning light for that works fine. So, first question is am I missing the front fog light switch completely? Second, in removing the drop-down coin tray thingy, below the steering column I found this extra device, in picture 2. It looks like it might be a mini-disc player, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else come across anything similar?

While doing a lighting check, I noticed the LH side light bulb has failed. Supposedly had an MOT in May just before I bought the car. How do I get access to the bulb and what name is given to it in the GEN1 bulb list. Its an 02 MNH10 3L model.

Stopover recommendations
Hillclimber replied to Hillclimber's topic in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
Thanks for taking the trouble to check this out, Gamith. It was a need for this weekend, and as replied to earlier posts every site I checked, including some in your list, are full on Saturday night. So we have decided not to travel and will be booking further in advance when we do need to visit. -
Stopover recommendations

The only one I am aware of is a family christening. I know the parents have a very large social circle, but didn't think it would be this big! -

Another one that is full this weekend. Realising now that we won't be camping this weekend. Duh! -

Hi Bignev, yes I tried it as well as park4night, campinguk and all the camp related club sites. Just surprised as how busy that area is this weekend. -
Need my starter replacing
Hillclimber replied to Hillclimber's topic in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
Just taken the van for a run and noticed the MIL was on. Disconnected the MAF and a black connector at the rear of the cylinder head while removing the starter. Both replaced OK. Is it likely the MIL will go out on its own, or does it need further checks. -
Now that the Alphard is running, a family visit is in the offing, so looking for recommendations for a suitable campsite/stopover near Ripon for this coming Saturday night. Reasonable fcailities would be great in case things don't work as expected!

Need my starter replacing
Hillclimber replied to Hillclimber's topic in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
New starter fitted and engine starting without issues. This is how the old one came out. The cone with the front pinion was the real problem area.
