To be honest, I’ve never had the need to put the footbrake on yet! But dvds happily play when driving on both front and rear screens, will have a play at the weekend…

Front screen should not allow you to watch DVDs while driving,; listen yes, watch no.

So it does sound like a footbrake override that allows 12V to whatever is the correct pin !

We had a 15m 'orange' cable supplied with the van, which has for 99% of the sites we have used, been more than adequate, however.....we have since bought a 25m cable in the 'blue', which is half the weight of the 15m, and had no issues with supply.

We bought the 25m one as we were on a CC site in the Lakes where we needed every inch of the 25m.

What we tend to do is ask the question of the site when booking, so we know which one to bring, but if were going to a CC site, will always take the 25m.

Golden rule is whatever length you have DO NOT COIL IT, spread it out as much as you can.

I agree. It is not best practice to use coiled mains lead.

If you do pull a lot of current the lead will get warmer. More current, more heat.

Nevr had a site NOT let me plug in my 1.5......yet lol.

The potential issue with 1.5mm cable (14.5A) is that it is rated at less than most campsite fuse trips (16A).

    2.5mm is rated at 20A.

You need to be quite a consumer to need more than 14A !

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's much appreciated. I've had it for a few months now. I have bought it off my Dad, well buying it off my Dad. I'll take it to Halfords then as you suggest and see if they can shed any light on it after a battery test. I can't see a date on the battery, but I'll ask if Halfords can.

I changed the key batteries first time it happened, cause that made the most sense to me as to what the issue could be from. So I doubt it is that, now that it has happened again.

I'll comment again so others can see how this hiccup turns out.

    Hi again Oddie,

I have come across these reasons, so far, for extra switches.

One is for the rear fog lights, if added for the UK MOT; but the switch needs to be lit when activated.

Two, is to allow the radio to work when the ignition is switched off.

There is another,  if I can remember it !

Sometimes the original owners have added gizmos that get removed before export

Hopefully I'll add it tomorrow, if no one else does !

    Hi,

I'm considering converting my 3litre 10Series to LPG. However, taking into consideration the fact that Shell has shut down its LPG pumps and the fact that there isn't much take up of LPG like back in the 90' - 2010's , is it still worth getting a conversion?

What does the future of LPG look like, is it likely that there won't be any available pumps ?

    Happy for any thoughts...

Do you travel on the Continent much ?

Availability of LPG west of Exeter can be fun !

  7. Some sites are not happy with 1.5mm.

Should you accidently trip any fuses it could become awkward !

Regarding length, not weight, I use reusable cable ties to limit the 'notional' length and make my 25m more manageable.

Splitting them is OK, but they need to be watertight !

Keeping it partially coiled does increase inductance, but we won't go there !

Happened twice now, where my Alphard has been parked up for a few hours and on returning, the key buttons don’t work at all to open any door. So you need to do it the old fashioned way and actual turn it in the driver door to get in. Which is weird, but worse still the car won’t start after that. No lights, doesn’t turn over, just dead. On both occasions this has happened, I’ve had jump leads with me and have gotten someone to get me started again. I’ve checked the battery and it looks fine. Am I accidentally leaving the headlights on perhaps and missing the warning beeps mistaking them for the doors being open beep when leaving. It’s the lonely thing I can think of. Has anybody else experienced this or has a suggestion before I take it in for a check over? Cheers.

    Hello Phill,

    Welcome to the Forum.

How long have you had your Alphie ?

Go to Halfords and get your battery tested under load.

Is there a date on the battery ?

Silly suggestion, but replace the batteries in your keys.

Do them one at a time !

  9. I have heard nothing, official or otherwise, but would not be surprised if Toyota UK was aware how popular Alphards are becoming and is considering exploring the market.

I guess getting the support from their Official UK Dealership organisation could be problematic; training and equipment costs, etc.

Hopefully they do and, eventually, the availability of Alphies and Vellies will improve substantially, and getting a service by Toyota UK will no longer be a problem.

Not to say anything about the Lexus version.

Hey, I find the social part of A2oc.net,  the Audi A2 owners club very interesting and fulfilling. The meets promote help, info and camaraderie. They also promote trust and goodwill, to the extent that bulky items are often relayed around the country from sellers to buyers. All done on trust and foc!

Their forum has a Social section to promote annual national, or random local events, which works well.

Maybe we need to increase membership, and an easy means is via meets?

    Hi Jelly,

As I just noted with Oddie, please give it a go.

Is that engine in your Alphy? :o

I'm still thinking I added it up wrong but I mostly did 55 on the motorway and the rest was up and down hills and down the coast of Cumbria. If I get that again I'll be delighted even at 1.90 per litre. I have it in for a Toyota main dealer service today, wish me luck for the results!

Edit: I just realised I did the calculation on the first run based on half a tank and not the exact litres used, so maybe that one is off.

Sorry I missed your comment on the V8

No, it isn't in my Alphie. What an idea though.

Perhaps I should have bought a Chevy day van instead

I had use of one when I lived in Denver

Thank you for your input. The first point around members actually wanting to have meets is the purpose of this post! Arranging informal meets really is not too much of a problem and not entirely sure why these things are being referred to as ‘issues’.

Also was unaware that it was against forum rules to try to arrange a get together and we had to go through the owners, for that I apologise.

Fantastic that you would want to attend and I’d guess that there are quite a few owners in your most beautiful part of the county who would happily meet up on a sunny Sunday afternoon (I believe there will be one of those mid August). With regards to the club appearing as a club, I would’ve thought this would automatically been taken on by those who are involved in running the club? If this is not the case, I’m pretty sure that there are others, myself included, who would be more than happy to discuss attending events with event organisers and booking in ‘x’ amount of vehicles to attend.

In the past we have encouraged new people to join groups I have been involved with by attending events, being seen, being friendly, having a bit of fun. In my experience this only fosters a more positive community feel and also a great way to gain affiliation with useful organisations.

Also aware that this might go absolutely nowhere and this will remain an online only forum, but no harm in asking!

    Hello Oddcouple,

Thanks for your interest in developing the social aspects of The Club; but I think there is some misunderstanding here

Perhaps issues is too strong of a phrase for me to have used.

So, as far as I am aware, there is no restriction on members trying, or succeeding, in arranging meets.

What I was trying to point out is, that as far as I am aware, there are no official Alphard Club meets. That is meets that are organised by the Club Staff.

I was, and remain, happy to refer this 'fact' to the Owner to enquire about his views on having 'The Club' officially involved in such arrangements.

There is, of course, no need for members to seek permission to gather together for whatever reason.

Nor can I see any reason why the Forum could not be used as a method to facilitate a meeting.

However, my reason for joining was for technical support, and not for social interaction.

Having said that, I cannot believe the Forum, or Club, would wish to obstruct any social interaction on this site.

Perhaps, with time, the focus of the Club / Forum will shift from a more technical mutual / self help group to one with a more social focus.

It is difficult to understand why both could not be achieved.

Regarding your, and other members, ability and desire to arrange meets, I agree with Starider; "give it a go".

May I respectfully suggest, you send a PM to Alphard Club to further your interest in promoting the Club in this way.

  13.

Surely, there are two issues here.

The first is Are members interested in attending meets ?

The second is Are members interested in arranging the meets ?

If any members are volunteering to arrange meets on behalf of the Forum, please let me know and I'll refer them to the owner of the Forum.

I would certainly be interested in attending a meet within Devon, Cornwall or Somerset.

There was a meet in Scotland, recently, which was arranged informally between members and , presumably, non members of this Forum.

There is a video available on YouTube. Cuttothechase.

I have a fairly newly converted 2010 Alphard. On a recent trip (NC500 since you're asking :)), we plugged into the EHU and headed for bed. Just as I was dropping off, I noticed the CO sensor was giving a reading. We definitely didn't have anything burning so I had no idea where this was coming from.

However, my wife had mentioned that she had heard a hissing noise which was outside my hearing range, and it seemed to be coming from the leisure battery which is mounted under the R&R seat. I switched on the battery monitor and could see that it was reading over 15V which seemed excessively high. A quick google revealed that overcharging a car-type battery can release, among other things, hydrogen, and CO monitors can detect hydrogen. I disconnected the EHU and the CO monitor returned to a happy state.

Now I am home, I plugged in the the mains and watched the reading on the charger itself rise to 15.3V (see picture). I found a manual for the unit online and apparently it shouldn't go above 13.8V. I have tried setting the mode to 'wet' but the unit doesn't seem to do anything then - the fan in the unit shuts down.

So, before I take it back to the convertors to complain, I wondered if anyone on here had any experience with these chargers and could share that with me.

    Thanks
    Paul

Is your battery charger set to Lead Calcium ?

Lead Calcium batteries require a higher output voltage to fully charge that type of battery.

That could explain the high voltage on the charger; but not while being charged by your alternator.

I have a charger in my van, so as soon as I go EHU the leisure battery gets charged.

My leisure battery is not Lead Calcium, and I doubt yours is either; but its worth checking the battery type.

Do you have an independent voltmeter. Always worth it.

Hi.  Looking for roof bars to fit left / right across the car - rails are already installed.

also looking for someone to supply and fit a tow bar with single 7 pin plug.

    any suggestion appreciated.

my Alphard is a 2007 model with tail gate and is converted to camper van with pop top

Sorry about the roof bar comment. Need to read what it sats, not what I think it says !

  16. Hi Tylers,

    Welcome to the Forum,

There is a thread on here, somewhere, (probably difficult to find), where a member has discovered existing holes, with captive nuts, somewhere in an ideal place to mount cross bars.

Sorry to be so vague, but, I suggest, it will be worth your while to trawl through all the roof rack entries and hope for the best.

This note may trigger some other members' recall.

    Good luck.
