I expected worse to be honest and had a slow puncture which might have made it a bit less efficient. UPDATE! I must have gotten this wrong somehow but I was driving like Miss Daisy and I sat behind a Royal Mail truck on the motorway. 582kms = 361mls used 48.8L of E5. By my calculations(google) that makes 33.6MPG? Surely that isn't right?

I have a 4.2L supercharged V8 that does 35mpg under the same circumstances.

I'm still thinking I added it up wrong but I mostly did 55 on the motorway and the rest was up and down hills and down the coast of Cumbria. If I get that again I'll be delighted even at 1.90 per litre. I have it in for a Toyota main dealer service today, wish me luck for the results! Edit: I just realised I did the calculation on the first run based on half a tank and not the exact litres used, so maybe that one is off. Edited May 20, 2022 by OldWellhouse

Please tell us all who the main dealer is, as not all Toyota dealers will work on Alphard/Vellfire machines 1

They've serviced a few recently they said. There was ONE thing they picked up on during the service and safety inspection and that was one of my front tyres is wearing on one side slightly so wheel realignment is recommended. That's it! To say I'm happy would be an understatement apart from the £250 it cost, although I think it'll pay for itself when I come to selling one day. I've booked it in to have the wheels blasted and powder coated in piano black so will get the realignment done then. I need to source some black centre caps and think I'll treat it to some new boots all round. Edited May 20, 2022 by OldWellhouse 1
Thecorrection Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Hi folks, Has anyone got any experience of mpg on a 2nd Generation Hybrid? It's meant to be better than the approx. 30mpg combined the 1st Generation gets, but apart from that I can't find out anything anywhere. Many thanks!
Oddcouple Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 2010 3.5 vellfire mostly motorway around 28 mpg we had our first real drive yesterday, about 200 or so miles on about half a tank, a little bit of villages involved. This is by no means scientifically deduced, didn’t really plan to work it out. We’ll give it a proper look after conversion which is next month! That was using cruise on the motorways at 62mph..

That's front wheel drive I suppose (and not 4WD)?

Sorry I missed your comment on the V8 No, it isn't in my Alphie. What an idea though. Perhaps I should have bought a Chevy day van instead I had use of one when I lived in Denver

Oddcouple Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 So, first measured fuel consumption. Important to note that absolutely no consideration was given to how we drove, and this was a huge mix of town, country, motorway. 44l used to cover 638km, which I make 6.9l/100km or around 19mpg. There is a huge possibility I have worked this out wrong and would be more that grateful for someone to point out if I have! 2010 3.5 Vellfire, all miles on 2wd only.

I suppose odometer is not converted to Miles.. 638 kms =~398 miles Divided by 44 = 9.06 miles/litre That's approx *41.2 MPG* 🎌

Surely not true is it?

Surely not true is it? Right, I now have no idea how I managed to get the first figure…. Facts, 638km = 396 miles. Used 44l of E5 (9.67 gallons) so 6.9l/100km, 40.91 mpg?? I must be hitting errors here somewhere, head is now minced lol.if true, that’s ridiculous isn’t it??

AFAIK if cruising at around 58mph can get 38mpg. But this is bit higher. Better luck next time with notes / recording and cal? By the way started megathread on service parts. Hope some useful information gets collated
Oddcouple Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Just wondering how much difference it has made with the back seats out, only have the 2 captains seats left in the back prior to conversion. Must be a chunk lighter…

arthurj Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 (edited) 1. Year 2012 2. Model Vellfire Hybrid 3. Driving 540km, mostly motorways at 70mph, ECO mode 4. MPG 36-37mpg From my post in another thread: Quote I just did a long drive right the way up the country. Mostly 70mph motorway driving, not much traffic, cruise control most of the way. I was in eco mode mostly and did about 540km. Just me, not a heavy load and my car’s not converted. I got about 36-37mpg on that run. I might be able to improve it slightly if I were at 65mph most of the way. I need to test properly, but I think I get similar in town. Bear in mind that my head unit is currently offline so I don't have exact MPG stats, I'm basing this off milage and the position of the fuel dial, which may not be accurate.
