Not for my Alphard, but I recently received a renewal notice for another vehicle. The notice politely explained that the market had risen about 20% So I phoned to ask why they were proposing an increase of over 35% ! So I changed insurers and saved myself 66% (of the new proposal). If these companies want to play these games, so will I. The company was Direct Line. 1 1
ALSALPHARD Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I have found Direct Line very good in past, been with them many years - infact mostly been with them since the were started with RBS and it was free to pay monthly-never had a claim. If I start a new quote with direct line on line it gives me a new quote only 44% incresase over last year. (better than 57%) The comparison sites useing a vellfire come out roughly-from 15% more than last years cost so very tempting considering a vellfire is the same vehicle - problem being all the comparisons use the same dropdown list. So far only Direct line have Alphards listed after 2010. Aviva just fobbed me off saying not on list. I cant see a way of tempting the comparison sites of ammending to Vellfire/Alphard on listing. Oh, could px Alphard for a vellfire! 1
Picasso Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) Direct line lost my business doubled my renewal this year I think a lot of owners are going to be shocked with there renewals not just with direct line Edited October 13, 2023 by Picasso Spelling 1

Direct line quote was better on a new on line quote and they did try harder when i went to cancel autorenew. When the comparison sites get the change to Alphard/vellfire for 2010 and later there should be much more competition. 1
Durham Toyoda Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 (edited) I've also also just got a good deal with Admiral, did an online comparison with Quote Zone and they came back with the cheapest quote, gave them a call to make sure they were Ok that it was a Camper Conversion and the final price was even cheaper than the initial quote. Jethro Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Hi fellow Alfies I've used Mark Richards for over 8 years, when I had a Mazda Bongo. And subsequently continued when I got an Alfie. The quotes I got years ago, were ridiculous. £1000-1500. But Mark Richards found me good cover for £400. So I've stuck with him since. Regards Jethro 1
Charlie Brown Posted January 17 Posted January 17 My insurance with AXA with Lifesure as the broker has just come up for renewal. For our 2008 Alphard converted to a camper van the premium has gone from £323 to £423. I have full no clams discount and my cover includes fairly normal excesses. I have legal and NCD protection. I had to put in a claim for a broken window this year. I am 71. Looking on the forum, there doesn't seem to much about very recent insurance premiums. So would anyone like to comment as to whether they think this is in line with current insurance costs for an Alphard camper. Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think that premium is unreasonable, even if the increase is. Some insurers will low bid the first year(s) to gain your custom. Mine is about the same as yours, but only increased by 30 pounds this year, which was a very pleasant surprise.

Just renewed our 2007 3.0 AWD full side conversion and pop-top with Caravanguard.co.uk who specialise in insuring campervans - underwritten by RSA. Premium has gone from £320 to £349 pa (Comprehensive) but still competitive in my opinion - includes recovery within the UK. Vehicle is kept on driveway on the Wirral with protected full NCD and assured value of £30K.
RJD Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Hi, new Alphard (2008 petrol 2.4l) owners here. Thought you might be interested to know that we ended up getting what seems like a reasonable deal through Admiral for the following: Fully comp. 8 yrs protected NCB Legal cover No breakdown cover (have that already with the bank account). £330

andyfell Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Hello everyone. (Potential) new Vellfire owner here. I have paid a deposit on a 2013 Vellfire 2.4Z. Try as I might I can't find a quote cheaper than £1700 per annum. The S and X trims will be insured by loads of different companies, quotes around £600. I've spent the whole day on the phone to insurers and been told unequivocally by many people that this 2.4Z - for the purposes of insurers in the UK - does not exist. e.g. Adrian Flux: system doesn't like this car, £2200 per annum, which is think is for a policy to the effect of "we've no idea what this is so will quote you an astronomical price". Admiral were fantastic, tried really hard, but couldn't find it either. Any words of wisdom before I bail out of the purchase? I would be very grateful.
andyfell Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Ok so latest is that apparently the Alphards and Vellfires are listed the wrong way round for insurers. Can anyone confirm this? Considering insuring it as a 2.4S because there is simply no other option.
smurf Posted March 22 Posted March 22 What does say the model is on the V5? If it is vague, then use that to your advantage. If it says 2.4Z and you insure it as a different model it could come back to bite you.
andyfell Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Thanks for replying. It says Vellfire, no mention of Z. All the HPI checks etc come back with no mention of Z. Only place I can think it is mentioned would be the auction details.

Rojie Posted April 1 Posted April 1 2 hours ago, jez said: Well it definitely looks like the insurance people have the alphard and vellfire mixed up,will try again tomorrow when we can speak to people again 🙂 Because it is a grey import many insurance companies are not up to speed. An Alphard and a Vellfire are almost the same vehicle; they only have superficial differences. However, if an Insurance Company don't see it that way you just have to be persistent. My advice ? Don't use on-line quotation tools, read the insurance section in this forum and start phoning the companies directly. Good Luck. 1
