ALSALPHARD Posted October 13, 2023 Share Posted October 13, 2023 I have found Direct Line very good in past, been with them many years - infact mostly been with them since the were started with RBS and it was free to pay monthly-never had a claim. If I start a new quote with direct line on line it gives me a new quote only 44% incresase over last year. (better than 57%) The comparison sites useing a vellfire come out roughly-from 15% more than last years cost so very tempting considering a vellfire is the same vehicle - problem being all the comparisons use the same dropdown list. So far only Direct line have Alphards listed after 2010. Aviva just fobbed me off saying not on list. I cant see a way of tempting the comparison sites of ammending to Vellfire/Alphard on listing. Direct line quote was better on a new on line quote and they did try harder when i went to cancel autorenew. Durham Toyoda Posted October 23, 2023 Share Posted October 23, 2023 (edited) I've also also just got a good deal with Admiral, did an online comparison with Quote Zone and they came back with the cheapest quote, gave them a call to make sure they were Ok that it was a Camper Conversion and the final price was even cheaper than the initial quote. The quotes I got years ago, were ridiculous. £1000-1500. But Mark Richards found me good cover for £400. So I've stuck with him since. For our 2008 Alphard converted to a camper van the premium has gone from £323 to £423. I have full no clams discount and my cover includes fairly normal excesses. I have legal and NCD protection. I had to put in a claim for a broken window this year. I am 71. Looking on the forum, there doesn't seem to much about very recent insurance premiums. So would anyone like to comment as to whether they think this is in line with current insurance costs for an Alphard camper. Any comments appreciated. Thanks. I don't think that premium is unreasonable, even if the increase is. Some insurers will low bid the first year(s) to gain your custom. Just renewed our 2007 3.0 AWD full side conversion and pop-top with Caravanguard.co.uk who specialise in insuring campervans - underwritten by RSA. Premium has gone from £320 to £349 pa (Comprehensive) but still competitive in my opinion - includes recovery within the UK. andyfell Posted March 22 Share Posted March 22 Hello everyone. (Potential) new Vellfire owner here. I have paid a deposit on a 2013 Vellfire 2.4Z. Try as I might I can't find a quote cheaper than £1700 per annum. The S and X trims will be insured by loads of different companies, quotes around £600. I've spent the whole day on the phone to insurers and been told unequivocally by many people that this 2.4Z - for the purposes of insurers in the UK - does not exist. e.g. Adrian Flux: system doesn't like this car, £2200 per annum, which is think is for a policy to the effect of "we've no idea what this is so will quote you an astronomical price". Admiral were fantastic, tried really hard, but couldn't find it either. Any words of wisdom before I bail out of the purchase? I would be very grateful. An Alphard and a Vellfire are almost the same vehicle; they only have superficial differences. However, if an Insurance Company don't see it that way you just have to be persistent. My advice ?
