If any interested for about £35 for the pair yet i will keep the original ones just in case Just a small caution for Gen 1 owners. I knowingly bought some struts for a Gen 2 from AliExpress, as Gen 1 were not available ! The Gen 2 didn't fit ! My fault, not AliExpress. Amazingly, Toyota can, could, still supply the K type for my van, but at 200 pounds each ! My tail gate is electrically assisted, and I experience some juddering. My dilemma ? What is the cause, motor or struts ?
Quimbasher Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 Does it judder when you open the bootlid manually? if so then it may be the struts or hinges, would try lubing them and go from there.

Harry, Thanks for these suggestions I don't really notice it anymore ! I take it for granted. It is not severe, just annoying as it waggles. I'll try what you suggest but have my doubts how meaningful the test is. For the benefit of other readers. The tailgate is connected to the struts in the normal way. The motorised assist, via a 15 inch long rod, is connected to the tail gate quite high up in relation to the hinges. As the door is only assisted on one side, the nearside, that, in itself, could cause the waggle. However, I cannot believe Toyota allowed such an ineffective design to go to market. I could disconnect the rod but I am very cautious that the full load of the door will be borne by only the struts and , I, personally will need to take the excess load ! I may have my mechanic take a look as he will be able to carefully, and safely, prop the rear door open as we 'play'. I have previously oiled the struts and greased the hinges, but to no effect. Lubricating the struts is not made easy by having the rods, when extended, on the lower part of the assembly ! Your reply has piqued my interest again ....
Clutha Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Is it possible to get a part number for tailgate struts (non powered) for an A10 Alphard?
Rojie Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Before renewing your tailgate struts ensure you order the correct one. Obvious, I know, but there are several types. They are identified by quite a large letter on the body of the strut. I have not changed mine yet, as it could be the motor, and I am not keen to replace that as my conversion makes it rather awkward !

Clutha Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Thanks, no. is SE52LDN, imported. Called in a local Toyota showroom & informed it might be discontinued 😂😂😂 Does the earlier post with parts diagram look useful?

Rojie Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I would be very interested to know where you buy the struts, when/if you do. I lubricated mine today, great improvement but still a slight juddering. And the cost of them. If you choose to fit them yourself, safely, you will need to prop the tailgate as they are heavy !

Concur ! In our well below zero temps recently mine were giving no assistance whatsoever, today in a balmy 8degC gate positively flew open 😂
