lucasmcspucas Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Hi, I have just bought a 2005 Alphard and had it converted into a camper so new to all things Alphard. I love it but the door beeps, tailgate beeps, reversing beeps...it's too much. So I have searched and searched on these forums and the general consensus is to get a bluetooth OBD dongle and app or Techstream. I have bought (and returned) several Bluetooth OBD2 devices. Non worked. Some would connect but non would let me change any settings. So I am now going the Techstream route. I have a MCVI cable and various versions of Techstream. All the older versions I have (v12, v13, v15, v16) don't have Alphard in the list of Toyota models. The version that came withe cable (v18) automitically detects the vehicle but when I go into customize settings the screen is empty (it connects to the vehicle ok as I can see various bits of data) but I just can't change anything in the customize screen. It's empty (screenshot attached). Anyone got any thoughts? Am I missing something? Have you seen this before? I have used a couple of different drivers and made sure I have changed the VIM select. Like I said, V18 seems to connect to the vehicle, just missing customize options. Earlier versions won't let me even choose Alphard.

MonsterS Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Have you set your region in techstream to Japan? If you dont this would by why youre not getting anything. However you cannot change or alter the beeps. it's hardcoded to the ECU's.
lucasmcspucas Posted July 14, 2023 Author Posted July 14, 2023 Doh! Thanks. Ok, so changed it to Japan and that has fixed one issue. I now have options in the customize settings menu. But now a new problem - I can't edit any of them. The customize parameters box is empty (attached). This is for everything in the customize menu. I thought I had read on other parts of this forum that people manage to change the beeps or at least make them a single beep?
charlaph Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 You're in the same position as me, I couldn't get mine to do anything either, cable (I'm using a wired connection) shows up, drivers load, it can 'see' everything but you can't edit anything. Someone on another forum said to try other versions of techstream, an older version worked for them, but I've tried 10,11,12,16 and 17 (from memory, often multiple releases within each) and using virtual machine or native in Windows 10 and all to no avail. I could buy a different cable but don't want to drop £60 on a 'claimed good' version in case it's something on my vehicle that's preventing it so I'll wait and when I get a service done at a specialist I'll ask them to take a stab at it.
lucasmcspucas Posted August 18, 2023 Author Posted August 18, 2023 This is exactly the same. I'm pretty sure its not the cable as have tried different ones with no luck. The fact that the Bluetooth OBD2 can connect but can't edit anything suggests is something to do with the car rather than the cable/dongle/laptop etc. I saw some posts about the ECU not having enough power but my fuses appear to be ok. Please let me know what happens when the specialist has a look at it.
lucasmcspucas Posted August 18, 2023 Author Posted August 18, 2023 How is a mongoose connector different to a J2534 MVCI cable? This is the one I have https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124808047632 I can't seem to find a mongoose cable anywhere.
BeeeBeee57 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Just installed Techstream on Windows 10, just keep getting error code, says it can't find my VIM. Ran a check on the lead and all the channels show as red NG...if anyone has any suggestions [2004 model].
PaulE Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 I used the "Washinglee" cable from Amazon and the Techstream download they gave me. The instructions included this message_ "Please note that the anti-virus software on your laptop could delete the cable driver when unzip/install it. Most of the people said that these kits do not work, just because they did not get the driver installed correctly on a 64bit/32bit system. Please refer to the product description for more information. If you see the prompt “Unable to connect to VIM”, when running “Techstream Patch 64bit”/“Techstream Patch 32bit”, especially the first time to run it. Generally that means the cable driver was not installed successfully, or the driver was deleted by anti-virus, please refer to the troubleshooting section of the user manual attached in this Email, or contact us for technical support." I use Macafee anti virus and I had to instruct it allow the 64 bit driver- there may be a similar utility on your anti virus.
BeeeBeee57 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Thanks for that, I shall investigate tomorrow.
Chris.ac Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 If you have a laptop capable of running virtual machines, try downloading the preset up tech stream from ih8mud site, no need to bother worth anti virus or fiddling with drivers. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how-to-techstream-in-5-minutes.1034923/

You also have to make sure your region is set to Japan.
BeeeBeee57 Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 I'm on 18, I rebooted it all, had a fiddle and seems to be seeing alphards now, fingers crossed for tomorrow...

Have you been trying to configure it without it plugged in to the actual car? If so, that's why. There is some precomms handshake that goes on that will partially identify the alphard, trying to preconfigure the software will just cause frustration. Edited September 21, 2023 by Chris.ac
BeeeBeee57 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 It's been connected to the car with the ignition on but without the engine running. Planning to have another go later today...Will let you know my progress!

BeeeBeee57 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 I'm now being offered some options: 0307-0503 0504-1111 1112-1310 1311- Do these codes mean anything to you?

I'm just guessing but maybe year or manufacture? 07/2003 - 03/2005 04/2005 - 11/2011 12/2011 - 20/2013 11/2013 until now
Geralt Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 @lucasmcspucas is right. The Japanese do YY-MM-DD. You should select the first option. However, the level of Techstream diagnostics on the Gen 1 pre-facelift is very limited. You can talk to ABS, Airbag and Engine ECU and that's about it. Fingers crossed that's all you need. 1
PaulE Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Hi, If not the date I wonder if they are vin no. sequences-my Techstream doesn't recognise the actual vin but gives a list of short sequences to choose from.
