Sat Nav stopped working

When I bought my Alphard 2003 a few years ago, the sat nav was working fine in the UK and, briefly, when I crossed over into France. It hasn't worked since (I have had a couple of flat battery incidents).

 

When I select the navigation system, all I get now is a button to press (in English and Japanese) which says rest to factory default. So I press that and nothing happens, it just closes down.

 

Any suggestions? The radio and bluetooth contine to work normally.

The nav maps could (should?) be on an SD card, either full sized or micro

Maybe it has been removed or needs to be pushed back in? 

 

Depending on the age of the maps you can easily update them, once you have found the correct version and image of course.

 

Obviously your system may vary and it very much depends on the head unit - on mine I have circled the microSD card.

Where do you think the SD card might be on my version? The button SD/RST (bottom right) is just a cover. I prised it off and it is just connected by a bit of plastic.

 

You can see the default message on the screen. When I press reset, it just fades out and reverts to the general menu.

 

Any thoughts?

Is there a slot behind the SD/RST button by any chance?

Have you tried prising open the GPS/USB button, bottom-left - that also looks like it has a bit more clearance than the other buttons

 

Aside from that I would pull out the dash and take a look at the back (and bottom, top and sides) to see if there is a slot there. There may well be USB ports there also for you to plug in leads or devices, such as a hard-drive or USB stick.

 

Another option is to look in the 'Setup' menu and see if there is a 'Path to Maps' or similar as that may give you as clue as to where it is trying to look.

So, after a bit more prising, I have discovered the SD card and the USB port behind the GPS/USB button. Not really that surprising, but thanks fo the suggestion. It is a small SD card (8GB)

 

When I take out the SD card, I was able to progress a bit further with some other choices (Navi - says check GPS Path; GPS Path - provides some details, but it looks to be searching for the SD card; Set Up - allows me to change the time zone etc; System Info - a list of info), and, when I put it back in, it was clear that something was trying to load (the program appears to be something called iGo with a photo of Hong Kong). It loads about 50%, then greys out and fails to load.

 

I presume I might just have to buy a new SD card unless anyone has any ideas about what might be the issue. The Warning shown on the photo says "The application failed to start last time". Perhaps it is just defective/corrupted?

Cool - sounds as though you have found the source. So I would say it would be worth downloading / installing the latest iGO maps onto that card and see whether the maps load. there are various sites that appear if you do a web search.

 

It _could_ be that it knows it's outside of the area of the maps it currently has, so fails to load the map of course.
