Hi me again, what sort of economy should I be getting ? I put £50 in last week it's done 140 miles since and gauge seems to be dropping very quickly, any advice please

My last tank full in May I put in 62 Litres and did 484 miles with it and I don't hang about. I keep to the speed limits in villages, try to keep to speed limits of 50mph on country roads and put my foot down on motorways and dual carriage ways. Getting 35 - 37mph. If I slowed down I'd get up to 40 mph and have done. I hope this helps.

I concur with Michael Brown, drive sensibly and you should get high 30's mpg. Also depends on type of journeys you do, lots of short ones and the economy will suffer. On long journeys I have achieved 40+ mpg on numerous  occasions.

Pretty much every car I've ever owned drops faster on the lower half of the fuel gauge, related to the same number of miles on the same full tank, when the gauge read full.

Don't know the actual reason why, but had a thought about the shape of the tank at different heights of liquid in it, but I'm pretty sure I'm over thinking that one heehee!

I don't suppose that really matters either!

Anyway, is it a lot of town stopping and starting? Stockport's a total and utter mare for it, some days I can't go, quite literally, 2 minutes without stopping at a set of lights or junction. Getting going again slurps fuel even if it's gentle, compared to just driving along.

Also - what was the price per litre?

Round here it can vary 1.23 to 1.34p per litre, for normal 95 E10 unleaded.

So on £50 that's 40.65 to 37.3 litres, 3.35 extra litres, or 22 miles at 30mpg!

(I dream of that level of economy 🤣)

I have brimmed the tank today and reset the count, we will see where it goes from here, which ever way it's a great vehicle

Be cautious 'brimming' the tank.

For more information you will need to search Chris.ac for his explanation as to why it is not best practice.

I suspect that the more rapid movement towards the empty end could be a matter of accuracy. When more than half-full the accuracy doesn't need to be that good, but as you approach zero it would be better to get a more accurate indicator.

Of course it could be something else entirely - you would have to ask Mr. Toyota.

No, it is not to do with reading accuracy; as you say they are all an indication, that is all.

I think it is to do with the petrol recirculation system !
