The 'front' camera, if you have one looks sideways and downwards. Not straight ahead.
Great for 'Peep and Creep', and 'seeing how close you are at the front when parking.
It isn't a dashcam!

Thankyou for replies but I still dont know what the light is telling me.
The diagnostic programs in your engine management computer are not 'happy' about one, or more, parameters your engine is experiencing.
You really need to have someone diagnose this engine light.
It could be serious, but might not be.
You could be risking a breakdown, serious or otherwise. Don't ignore it.

Hi Nick,
I'm glad you are making progress.
I had wondered whether 'little fingers' had set the Child Locks !
Looking at your Toyota key, I think a new one might help.
(I was given one of these at sale. What I did not know was there was no electronics in it).
Sneaky. Buyer beware and all that.
I bought two replacement keys off ebay. About £15 each; but £65 (each) to get them programmed.
Make sure you get the correct frequency. I'll look it up if you need it. It is not the same as most UK cars.
Worth it though. I now have several keys, spares, spares and spares !
It is not unknown for the cable to need replacing.
Check on here (somewhere) or on YouTube.
I have an electric tailgate with a switch on the dash, lower left of steering wheel.
I don't know if this is fitted only on electric tailgates.
The smart fobs (not the type you have) also have a tailgate switch.

Hello EJP,
Welcome to the Forum.
THE place to meet and greet fellow Alphie owners.
Nice machine. A lot to be proud of.
Happy sailing and motoring.

Hello Nick,
Welcome to the Forum.
As you have disconnected your battery, you will probably need to reset your drivers window switch pad.
Easy to do. Page 33, I think (I have the other manual; page numbering may be different, hope not).
Your moon roof may need resetting also.
Regarding the doors; I need to read up on this.
I believe there is a door lock setting somewhere that controls various options on door locking.
Have you got a photo of your key.
I have a smart key. If I walk away from the car it will lock the slide doors, and I have to unlock the vehicle (again) with the smart key then pull the door handles.
Try reading up on the door locks, I'll do the same

Hi all
Just an update if anyone is interested. It’s a total loss sadly. Engineer stated that there is structural damage.
We enjoyed our grade 4.5 A Alphard for a total of 8 weeks! Now the search starts again.
Advance insurance have been very good and in my opinion, very reasonable with the settlement.
Thinking about. Gen 2 3.5, any advice/ info would be appreciated.
So sorry this is the result.
Some structural damage can be repaired.
Insurance companies, understandably look at total cost, including hire cars, etc, if you are entitled to one.
Did you have Snows take a look.
Either way, you are faced with delays to your plans.
Please let us all know, and photos please, of when you get your 'new' van.

I managed to turn it off, but now its disconnecting the main ETC unit and antenna, and I'm thinking of reusing the 12v connection for something else such as an AC inverter rerouted into the center console.
Is the ETC wiring through the ignition switch ?
I cannot see the sense in it being live 24/7.

Hello Derek,
Welcome to the Forum,
Sorry, but buy another vehicle or find out EXACTLY what is wrong with the current engine.
A repair may be a better bet.
Living where you do (I once lived in Perranuthnoe) you will need to consider how to get any 'new' engine to PZ too
Unless you are a mechanic, contact your local Toyota Dealer, not to have them fix it, but to ensure they will work on it if required.
Many, but not all, Toyota Dealers will not work on grey imports.
There is a company in Bodmin that will work on engines.
Good Luck

Well I had a bit of a shock this morning from my local Toyota dealer who've quoted me for a replacement cambelt; hope you're sitting down to read this...
Good morning,
It's a bit of a shock to me too.
I was quoted just under £600, inc VAT, for the belt and water pump.
Probably not for all the of the other bits and pieces that your dealer seems to want to fit.
My quote was from an Official Toyota Dealer, which was happy to do the work.
Perhaps your dealer doesn't want your business.

Thanks Rojie. I've seen on YouTube people having to reset their Windows, but hadn't seen anything about resetting the moon roof. Just realised I have At Home cover with RAC, so will call them and watch how they do it lol
It is easy to do.
Let us all know if the RAC fix it.
If not we'll tell you how to do it.

That negative terminal needs a clean, soft wire brush (while the battery is out) and be gently.
Don't be surprised if your door windows won't work from the drivers door.
This normal after a battery disconnect. Moon roof too, if you have one.
Don't worry, there is an easy process to restore proper functionality.

If you need to do this 8x4 transport......
If have not tried this, there are many sophisticated safety interlocks on these vehicles.
It would not surprise me if you cannot drive the vehicle with the tail gate not shut properly.
Worth checking, just to be sure

using Google Lens, it found where to obtain this Remote Start fob: Amazon.co.jp: TOYOTA (toyota) Remote Start LCD Screen Type Mark X Mark X [grx130 grx133 grx135] 08180 – 00 a10 : Automotive
Seems to require an antennae in the dash.

Hi again Alpha,
This does not appear to be Toyota remote.
Nor am I aware that you vehicle, unless it has been modified, will work with it.
-
Hi Ian,
You need to read up on the DVLA site to ensure Nov and I are correct !
-
I agree with Nov, but, in addition I have heard that DVLA have made it much more difficult to reclassify a vehicle.
Apparently, only 5 per cent of applications are approved.
There are a lot of other conditions that must be met to be successful.
DVLA have a good explanation, if you feel so inclined.

Which inverter are we referring to ?
The 100V inverter in the Gen 1 Alphie V6 is rated at 100 watts.
Trying to draw more than 100 watts, ie. 8A will trip the circuit.
AlphaMZ please note.
Microwave ovens are very quick, but also very inefficient; often about 50 per cent.
The magnetron also has quite a surge of current on start up.
So don't be surprised if your 600 watt microwave (Kettle or Toaster) takes well over a kilowatt !
So how many kilowatts are they in a 65 Ah battery ?
If watts equals amps times volts, 600 watts is 50 A ! At 100 per cent efficiency !!
As lead acid batteries should not be over discharged; you can envisage the problem.
Now if you have a leisure battery, say 110Ah, things become a little more manageable.
Low power kettles and microwaves are available, but can be rather slow to function.
If we are talking Hybrid machines, that have the READY button that is a different matter.
230v hookup (or Shorepower as I call it) or gas is the way to go !
If you are on shorepower you should have about 16A to play with; so no problem.!
Good Luck
I have no idea what the output from the 240V Hybrid inverter is.

am I correct in thinking that the engine must be running to operate a 600W microwave?
No, but if the engine isn't running you could soon run your main battery down.
The outlet is intended to power (Japanese) entertainment devices whilst on the move.

Browsing this forum on Samsung Android device I'm getting 18 adverts on the home page.
It is bonkers to be fair, very strong marketing approach by the forum.... hard to see the forum topics.
Hello Nov,
I have now heard back from the Owner, you were correct, he had taken action that allowed the adverts.
However, he was not aware that the larger membership were being bombarded with adverts.
He fell victim to The Law of Unintended Consequences.
He assures me he has taken further action to 'undo' this issue.
I would be grateful to hear if his (unknown ) corrective action has been successful, or not.
Our collective thanks are due to Starider, who raised the issue, and Nov who investigated it.

I need to get the stereo out for replacement with something UK suitable. It's a custom install with a fabricated centre console, so I will need to remove most of the dash in order to get it out. Does anyone have any idea where to even start (i.e. the silver trim, somewhere underneath etc.) Cheers!
Try Ldrego on here, or Cuttothechase on Youtube.
It may be a Gen 1 though which has a different dash to yours.

You may want to talk with Roma Homes; Northstar Conversions, Cowes.
They convert Alphards and may know someone capable with an OBD2 machine that can help you diagnose the issue

Ben replied and stated "No tv sorry , uk tv is digital, also carplay wont let any of video files display" .
If you want TV you could look at Haupuage, or something similar, and feed it through the VTR input.
I was going to do this but never tried it, using a PC instead.
Japanese TV and UK TV use different frequencies anyway.
If my method does work, let us all know; but don't be surprised if it doesn't work unless vehicle is stationary (in Park) and the foot brake is on.
Also be aware that Freeview HD is being phased out.
I am unaware if the Haupuagge type gadgets provide Freeview Plus.
There are always more questions than answers !

Hello S W,
Welcome to the Forum.
Depending on which head unit you have, it also supports DVDs, a HDD (that records your CDs) and front and rear cameras.
A radio frequency expender can be purchased for abou t£20 (a diy fitment) which will restore your radio to most UK channels.
When you make your upgrade make sure you don't lose any of those features unless you don't need them.
Ben Hau in Birmingham can provide a very significant Android upgrade.
Good Luck.
