So fitted new battery today and offside rear sliding door and now it's just stopped again and just beeps when I press the button

You could try and contact Japanese MPV specialists in Uxbridge. Ask for Naeem.

I believe they have an associated garage that works on their imports.

They may even have experience of the problem without you even needing to take your vehicle to them.

JUST an update to this cash cow !    Vehicle just failed its MOT.. broken rear suspension spring which was fitted Thirteen months (1020 miles) ago to replace the lowered springs (causing the vehicle to bottom out at every pot-hole) and now we have an engine oil leak, (camshaft housing to the Cylinder head )... The interior heater does not heat up. Sorry the love affair has ended, the previous Japanese owners probably had the best time with it !  As a retired IMI Master craftsman I should have known better Not a good investment, anyone interested in purchasing this ?

    Hello Larry,

So sorry to hear of your recent woes.

If you have any idea of the location of the pot hole that broke your spring, you could contact the local Council (as they are responsible) especially if the event occurred on an unlit road in the evening or at night.

Probably not worth the trouble but ...

Afternoon member I've tested my battery and its reading 14volts but only 12.1 amps so needs to be changed just want to know what battery everyone using with the electric sliding doors.

Do I stick with the standard  flooded battery or go for an efb or agm battery ?

IMHO, you should be OK with a 'normal' starter battery, lead acid.

I have found this to be more than adequate, but keep it fully charge and ensure your room mood lights are off .

I vaguely remember mine being a calcium type lead acid.

You don't have a start stop vehicle so I would have thought a efb unnecessary.

have you got your windows working again yet ?

I now have all the seats and tracks removed. The carpet , underlay and sound insulation must be removed and this exposes the mounting bolts. These are set with a very high torque and I needed to deploy the impact driver with the largest hammerI have !

The disadvantage of all this is that it left 18 or so holes in the floor so I've greased all the bolts with copper-slip and refitted them. I am assuming the R&R bed will need to be fitted into some of the holes but in the meantime I've re-fitted the foam and loose-laid the underlay. I'm hoping to get a plywood floor into place (but unfixed ) ready for the pop top fitting on Friday.

Has anyone any hints on popping off the lower rear wheel arch cover panels? I'm sure they must detach relatively easily but am resisting the urge to just writhe them off for fear of damage. I need access to take out the sliding seat tracks...

Does anyone out there need a set of seats? All in good condition and ready to fit, £250.00 the lot, collection only

You need to explain the seat finish and colour to potential buyers, and whether you have a 7 or 8 seater !

I think most convertors use the medical type flooring, not plywood.

Are you planning on using marine ply ?

The same lights appear on ours and the hybrid stops working but you can still drive it, it goes off for a bit than it goes off and hybrid works again too, however this problem has only started since we changed the battery of the vehicle

    Hello Leka,

I'm having exactly the same issue trying to find an isofix seat for my AH20. Tried a Joie Baby spin 360 GTI at John Lewis yesterday and found issues with the isofix being far back and quite low on the seat. The limited adjustment on the Joie meant the seat was inclined on the seat and brushed against the seat back when the spin function was used. John Lewis couldn't find any other seats in stock that had enough adjustment.

Anyone know any specific isofix seats that do fit (saw Britax mentioned though not sure what model)

Sorry to keep pestering for information but I have no other source of experience and inside knowledge.

I now have the rear seats on the workshop floor but cannot see how to extract the sliding bearers from the tracks. I have removed one of the front "stop ends" held by a single M5 hex screw but that doesn't help and so I suppose I'll have to refit it. I cannot see how to dismantle the seat carrier/fore-aft sliding base mounts. Any help or tips gratefully received...

    Hi again,

I haven't done this myself, but I seem to remember my convertor having to remove, or partially remove, the seat rails to slide the seat carriers out.

On your model the seat rails are accessible from inside the van, but, the carpet and sound deadening underfloor material will need to come out first.

I believe the nuts are captive, so refitting the rails (if that's what you intend, should be straightforward.

I thought I disable the windows fro. The switch but it wasn't on so I'm so confused on what it could be now and it's annoying me

OK. Well your enquiry isn't even a day old yet.

Try and be patient until other members offer you opinions and/or assistance.

ps. Check your battery leads and earth leads for loose connections.

IoW is a long (and expensive trip) for a seat...2 days, 280miles each way, ferry plus seat and fitting?. I'd call that exploitative!

    I didn't say it was a cheap solution !

Although it does help to create significant floor space .

I don't think it is exploitative; there is a choice.

They are a conversion company, so distance (for the seat) isn't a factor.

I don't think you get a seat, they use yours !

They also happen to be, imho, one of the best companies you will find.

Try Funky Ram, enquire whether they can supply a swivel unit.

With any swivel modification make sure you understand the increase in passenger seat height; it can be a problem for tall passengers.

And, last but not least, make sure you inform your Insurance company of the modification.

Now my electric windows are not working from the drivers door now

This will happen if you disconnect the battery. May effect your moon roof too.

Or you have inadvertently switched the door disable on the driver's door.

Ensure your battery is fully charged.

Your windows can be reset by winding each down, wait 5 secs, and wind up again.

This needs to be done from each door switch; not from the driver's door.

    I don't have any photos.

Try searching for soft door closure. I don't even know where the soft door closure motor is ! Sorry.

I'll check my van for the sensors.

I'm slowly making progress and am now looking for a revolving base for the front passenger seat. There seems to be a wide range in "universal" and specific with a wide range of prices. Anyone have any personal experience or a particular favourite?

    Any opinions/experiences gratefully received

Beware universal units. they may not fit; many are made for VWs.

NorthStar )IOW) are the only company I know that supply and fit these in units.

Note supply and fit. They do not, or did not, supply only.

At the time of my enquiry they only provided units suitable for Gen 1 vehicles.

Hi been looking on the forum but can't seem to find anyone got same problem as I've got.

Yes I have the smart lock.

Something new tried to open the door wouldn't open still but when to drive and the back of the sliding door was open abit like I could fit my hands in there.

    Hi Darren,

I can't help you myself but there have been several examples of similar problems, sometimes the cable needs lubrication or replacement.

In view of your latest experience, I believe there is a door closure motor, soft close, that may be playing up.

There are also a couple of sensors on the door jamb that may benefit from a gentle clean.

8Hi thanks for your reply I disconnected the battery and it started to work but it stopped again and I'm using the button on the right side of the steering wheel and it won't open manually at all have no idea where to start.

Will check battery but was told it was a new battery

Try to check the cable that operates the door; they are known to need replacing sometimes.

There are members who have changed the cable; try searching for door or sliding door in the search box on your home page.

Do you have smart locks ?

Hi I'm just off the phone to Paul at Japautoagent, we were thinking about a 2.4 Vellfire but he has advised us against it, instead recommending a 2012+ hybrid, that hadn't even entered the equation!!

    Any advice welcome.

What was the basis for the recommendation ?

What were his reasons for not recommending a 2.4 Vellfire.

What year Vellfires are you looking at ?

Send me a personal message if you are not comfortable answering in this public area.

Hi I'm new to the club and the Toyota alphard seen l.

I just picked up my alphard yesterday afternoon and everything with a car was fine just offside sliding door has stop working I discorrect the battery and the door started to work from the button and from the door handle and now its stopped working again.

I press the button and it makes the beeping sound but won't open and won't open by the outside handle even if I turn the power sliding mode off.

Could anyone help with what the problem could be its so frustrating?

    Hello Darren,

    Welcome to the Forum.

At this time of year you must ensure your starter battery is fully charged at all times.

If you bought the Alphie from a trader, take it back to them and ask for help.

    Which button ?

Are you pressing the key fob button, or the button on the dash ?

Ensure the door lock switch on the drivers door is not enabled.

I have the factory Alpine head unit (ina-w900E) with Alpine rear screen. I have no trouble connecting the phone via Bluetooth and handsfree calling works. But in Audio Sources there is no option for BT Audio. Bluetooth settings don't get me anywhere. Is it possible that this unit just doesn't support BT Audio? That would be super disappointing! I have been searching online a lot and no clear answers.

Any updates @Karl C? My 2005 (just a month or two pre-facelift) 3.0L came with only one cracked FOB, and one solid key. The transponder doesn't have any markings on it from what I can see, so I'm at a loss for exactly what I need. Have you had ANY luck at all?

    Hello Sven,

    Welcome to the Forum.

Hopefully Karl will see this and provide an update.

The 4D67 chip is unlikely to work for you.

I read about all the hassle some owners get with the DIY approach.

I bought two blanks from Aliexpress, or Alibaba, I cannot remember, and had an auto locksmith do all the cutting, programming and cloning.

He did need a master key.

All done in 15 minutes, no hassle, worked first time and ever since.

Not cheap but, imho, very worthwhile.

I now have three sets plus the valet key.

My insurance with AXA with Lifesure as the broker has just come up for renewal. For our 2008 Alphard converted to a camper van the premium has gone from £323 to £423. I have full no clams discount and my cover includes fairly normal excesses. I have legal and NCD protection. I had to put in a claim for a broken window this year. I am 71.

Looking on the forum, there doesn't seem to much about very recent insurance premiums. So would anyone like to comment as to whether they think this is in line with current insurance costs for an Alphard camper.

    Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think that premium is unreasonable, even if the increase is.

Some insurers will low bid the first year(s) to gain your custom.

Mine is about the same as yours, but only increased by 30 pounds this year, which was a very pleasant surprise.

I have removed the origional head unit and found that the wiring connections are unique and not labled.

I'm happy to sacrifice the additional cameras and steering wheel controls. I just want uk sat nav and DAB radio. This is the origional Panasonic head unit.IMG_3702.thumb.JPG.5d81b21e09d8aa6009ae894bf54c4c1d.JPGIMG_3703.thumb.JPG.81cdfded1f91a4398c091ce2ec0b92d6.JPG

Are there any experts out there who can advise me what the pin out connections are. I think I just need to connect in an ISO connector whilst keeping everything backwards compatable, unless adaptor cables are available. The additional antennas and even a replacement reversing camera can be connected directly to the new Pioneer head unit.

So far I have not been able to find and reference to this particular head unit anywhere online.

Also, I assume Alphards are not fitted with OBD sockets as I've not been able to find one anywhere.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

We all have to pay VAT on import.

A vat registered car dealer claims it back, then adds it back onto the retail price.

Thus you are paying the 20% of the resale price from a vat registered car dealer.

While when you import it you only pay the 20% VAT based on the japanese auction price + shipping + fees.

As for the auction sheet.....  I found a few of the resellers were presenting "modified" grading sheets, they had doctored the grading and the KM's of the vehicle.... one of them got very aggressive when I emailed him over the original sheet 🤣

I agree with you on the VAT issue; and the VAT on their costs and margins can be significant.

On the Auction Sheet issue I suggest you consider reporting those resellers to Trading Standards as I believe they are committing Fraud, among other offences.
