Does the door open on a slightly inclined driveway. It seems like about to open half way and then stop in between and closes automatically.

Also I tried from a levelled surface as well, it seems to be doing the same, trying to open half way and close. The same thing happening when trying to close as well through the key or the button.

I can mostly open it with a bit of force manually and close as well in the same way. Any ideas please or is this need any reset of problems with motor?

    Thanks

If the rear windows are open, the door will not open fully, and will close automatically.

    resetting you windows may help.

Check the door sensors and perhaps clean them.

What I meant by cold start is the engine has been off for an hour or more. Not that the engine is actually really cold. if it’s been running and I shut it off then start it again immediately it starts on the first turn. But if it’s been sitting for an hour or more it turns over a few times before it starts. Mabey I’ll loosing fuel pressure ?

Probably a red herring but ensure your starter battery is fully charged at all times.

Could be a vapour lock, but I don't know how you go about tracing that.

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you switch the ignition on ?

Hi Geralt. In June this year, the engine turned over but would not start. After finding and replacing the blown 15 amp fuse, I had no more problems till I was on holiday in Scotland in September when the vehicle failed to start one morning and the 15 amp fuse had blown as did a spare I had. The breakdown man tried putting a 20 amp fuse in and it started and ran ok. I came back home and ran till early this month. On starting one morning the 20 amp fuse blew and the Alphard is now stuck on my drive. I have taken the combined filter and pump out to be tested. Due to it been an imported vehicle I have not found anyone who has a plug in diagnostic to find the fault code.

Thank you for interest and help.

    Barry

Techstream is the go to product for OBD work, but ...

I don't think it s operable on the very early Gen 1 vehicles

    Hi all,

I just bought a 2002 3L and iv noticed 2 things that I believe to be related.

    1. Several cranks before firing only on cold start.

    2. Built up pressure in the fuel tank when I remove the full cap.

I have no check engine light.

Wondering if this could be a purge valve or a vent valve on the evap system?

    cheers

    Hello,

Possibly excess friction in engine due to cold temperatures.

It is not unusual for a pressure differential to form in fuel tanks on many vehicles.

    Just got a 2002 Alphard V 3L

It came with a broken “carmate” remote starter. I haven’t had success finding a new fob. Or if that even works?

Wondering if anyone has had success installing a remote starter on a pre facelift First gen ? If so what make and model remote starter did you use?

    cheers

I see. That video makes it look like he's pressing something in the ash try but that's not the case. In fact it's a bit more tricky than it makes out.

I recommend this video instead which is much more realistic and you should get some trim tools as he points out. You'll damage something if you use screwdrivers. Don't be put off though, it's all straightforward if you take your time.

Hi there …I’m very new to all this so hello

I wonder if you can help .. I’m looking to buy a hybrid Toyota alphard and it’s chassis number is

ATH10-0003005.. I’ve paid for a carvx report but will it tell me the emissions?

    Hello Mandy,

    Welcome to the Forum.

Why do you need to know the emissions ?

A 2007 vehicle should be ULEZ compliant if that is the reason for your question.

You can type the registration number into the TfL website if you wish to check; I would.

ps. Are you sure the vehicle is 2007 ?

Mine has a very nice Pioneer Double DIN fitted, wireless carplay/android auto, DAB, Bluetooth, works with the factory steering wheel controls and reversing camera.  Can't fault it at all really, bar the fact the head unit was hideously expensive and super glad someone else had it done!

Agree with the others tho, the factory headunit is a bit limited as most of the buttons are marked in Japanese and I don't think it's possible to set it to English at all.  Also as others mentioned without a band expander fitted the FM radio likely won't work properly, so you'll be left with CD and MD players which I guess also have limited use nowadays.  I'd go with getting that unit fitted, but if you play CDs at all then you'll probably want something with a CD player.

I agree about CarVX as well, a really useful service.  As with most imports despite being Grade 4 mine didn't come over here with any real past history (despite obviously being very well maintained and cared for), so I didn't know where in Japan it came from, whether the mileage correction on the BIMTA certificate married up with its export mileage and also didn't have the auction sheet or photos.  Admittedly some of it may have been lost or not passed on by previous keepers but such is life.

For the sake of 20 quid, I now have proof the car came from Osaka (so nowhere near Fukushima - but I believe it's a Japanese legal requirement that they have to be tested for contamination before export anyway), went through two MLIT tests, was a high grade import (I was told it was a 3 or 3.5 most likely by the original keepers, it was better than that) and had no other known issues.  Great thing to have if you ever want to sell the thing on as proof of provenance.

Radio Active vehicles cannot be exported !!

thanks for the info, yes they have lap belts, do you have the a link to the post or article that contains. your research into this modification? i have been giving thought to buying some seats

    Buying some seats ?

Are you considering fitting Gen 1 seats to a Gen 2 vehicle ?

    Is your vehicle a 7 or 8 seater ?

How many seat rails do you have across the middle row?

There is no link or article; just detailed personal research.

Can you PM me the details of what you are trying to achieve.

What seats you have, or will have.

Whether you expect the middle seats to slide when reversed ?

I assume your van is not a conversion.

    Good afternoon hivemid,

I am thinking of making a little more space in my 2010 Alphard (two huskies and chidlren) my thought was to unbolt the seats in the middle and rebolt facing backwards.  Has anyone attempted this? Are the sliders (no idea what they are called) positioned in a manner that the seats can be simply unbolted turned and rebolted?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Fiaraz,

Do your middle seats have lap belts ?

If not, reversing the seats would mean they could not be used for travelling.

Since the three point seat belts cannot be used, the vehicle will fail the MOT.

I believe the Gen 2 does not come with 8 seats, so at least the seat rails should be in the correct position.

I have a Gen 1 vehicle and explored this idea, in detail, and there are other difficulties too.

If you do have lap belts, then it may be feasible, but is not a simple as you may think.

Did you mean you tube ...not ebay ?

I think removing door handle is going to be my biggest problem to access as the Rock and roll bed and a unit may prevent access but I will look at it

    Thank you appreciate any help

Does anyone know if a module is expensive to have done at a dealers ?

    John

Please watch the cuttothechase  on YouTube video first; I believe the method (from my aged memory) does not involve the rear door card.

    Hello Nick,

My name is John and I recently bought an alphad (converted to camper). I am writing to you as the exact same thing that happened to yours has happened to mine. I can't get the back door open and no central locking being biggest problem. (Interior lights also stopped working). I read how you managed to open the back door by removing panel, did this solve the central locking once or all the time, or did you have to keep presses switch in the panel. And did you ever solve the light issue ?

    Many thanks

    John

I assume you have arear conversion.

cuttuthechase has a video on YouTube regarding opening the rear door.

I vaguely remember his method works for rear conversion too as with the rear conversion you cannot remove the panel without opening the door !

    Good luck

After replacing the battery in アビー our (2005) Alphard AH10 Facelift we are experiencing an intermittent issue with her Radio /GPS unit.  Initially the header unit worked fine, then after a few months it stopped working, black screen, no response from any of the buttons including the eject button.  アビー has been converted into a camper which means the battery often go's low between trips out.  We took her abroad recently during stormy weather where she was rocked during the night by heavy winds; the next morning when starting up to venture off site the Header unit went through what I think is a reboot cycle.  The system, which is connected to the OEM Toyota reversing camera worked fine on the return trip.  About a month later I needed to move アビー .  She just about started because of battery discharge and yet again nothing to be seen on the Header unit.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Is there a procedure for waking the Radio/GPS system?

    Hey Rojie,

thanks again. It still works very well. Is there a way to grease the backdoor? There are still some squeeking noises to hear, but I'm not sure if that really comes from the stuts.

If your struts are making squeaking noises they may be on their way out.

Are the rods very smooth ?

I have lubricated my struts with fine oil to improve the smoothness of operation; but it made no noticeable difference !

I also greased the tail gate pivot points with auto grease ( the type used for the door hinges).

It may little difference, my tailgate is not as smooth as I would like.

Toyota quoted me 200 UKP each for the struts. I have not yet made the plunge as it may be the tailgate motor needs an overhaul !

I have  a rear conversion which makes access to the motor rather tricky.

Get yourself an Owners Manual, they are published by JPNZ.

    Hi Lilash,

maybe I'll cross you on the road to South of France for Christmas ^^

Anyway, I've got a 2009 3.5 FWD, my Japanese documentation talks about 55 & 58L versions (and I should have a 58 if I understand correctly the doc), but in fact it seems I have more like 55L.

You could check on EPC data, but I'm sure there's not difference between an Alphard and a Vellfire for the fuel tank.

I doubt any other fuel tank will fit.

Space is pretty tight everywhere in these machines.

    Hi

    A new owner here of a 2010 3.5L Alphard.

Just back from a trip to the Peak District where unfortunately the Drivers side wing mirror was hit by another car. The damage is going to require the internal housing and back cover as it was hit at high speed on a narrow road.

So I’m after recommendations please of how to source the parts required. I’ve seen people recommending PartsSouq. I’ve found the items on there but seem unable to order them.

can anyone point me in the right direction please?

    Thanks Mark

    Hello Mark,

    Welcome to the Forum.

Sorry to hear of your encounter.

You could try Jap Auto Spares, or if you have the part numbers Toyota Direct.

If you send a PM to to picasso with your vin or registration number, he will provide you with the parts numbers.
