In my defence I did state that it is the usual Maintenance manual, If that was misleading I apologise, I did however state it does not go into any in-depth technical information which Bill did reply positively to, giving me reason to believe he understands its not a repair manual.   To clarify it is the basic owners manual with normal information normally associated with these Manuals

No apology is necessary. No defence is needed.

We are all trying to help each other in good faith.

My view is, that "usual Maintenance Manual" is too strong a description.

Any members purchasing this publication (from wherever) are likely to be disappointed if looking for any 'mechanical or electrical' procedures.

As a general guide it is very good indeed and, vitally, is the English language version.

I actually know who imports these manuals.

That person has been trying to expedite the Maintenance Manual version for some time now, alas, to date, to no avail.

I will contact the importer and obtain a progress report.

Let us hope there is progress being made.

As a postscript, I should add, I have no financial interest in, or benefit from, the JPNZ Owners Manual.

  2. Sorry to contradict Chris, but it is an Owners Handbook/Manual.

It is not a Maintenance Manual, and does not contain any strip down / repair information.

It does contain lots of very useful information, fluid capacities and types, Tyre pressure, sizes, etc.

It contains fuse locations and amperage, where switches are and what they do, etc, etc.

It is a must have, imho, but will not help you diagnose or repair your vehicle.

Nor does it provide any maintenance schedules or methods.

Yes I buy it in privately please can you give me advice how too solve the the problem of my boot door opening by fob key

Are you able to provide us with a photo of your key fob, please ?

I have an earlier version than yourself, but am giving this some thought.

Was a working rear hatch (by remote) demonstrated to you before you bought your van ?

On my van, an earlier model, I have two switches by the steering wheel.

Left hand side of the wheel on mine, and quite low down.

Not easily seen from the normal driving position

One is an electric door disabling switch, and the other operates the rear hatch.

Do you have the rear hatch switch; and have you tried it to open your rear hatch ?

    It should close it too.

I have requested a member assist you, if they can, so don't be surprised if you are contacted by him.

He will have to contact you through this Forum, if he does at all, as he does not have your personal details.

Do not publish your personal details in this topic. It is NOT private.

    Hello Amina,

    Welcome to the Forum.

So sorry to hear you have problems so soon after purchase.

    Did you buy privately ?

If not, take it back to the business you bought it from; have them repair it .

Otherwise, please read our Servicing Section where members are encouraged to make recommendations for servicing and repairs

There must be a competent business near you.

    Good Luck.

If you bought from a business, and they won't help you, send a private message to me and I will assist if I can.

I will certainly check the recommended business sellers within this Forum.

There is an interesting thread on this Forum where members declare and compare the consumption they get.

There are, of course, many variables; but there are many opinions that the consumption isn't that different.

Having more gears will make a difference though.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

Just a small point to add to your decision making process.

How many miles per year do you cover, or expect to cover as a single car family ?

Consumption only really matters when you cover more miles.

Put another way, if you anticipate not doing many miles the cost saving on fuel (if there is any) will be grossly outweighed by the additional expense of upgrading.

Full disclosure. I am the type that runs vehicles for at least 10 years.

Thanks for your input. It was not my Alphard that was written off as you rightly acknowledged.
The main reason for upgrading is to lower the engine size now that this will be our only vehicle.
we had been working our way through the various issues but some are unable to be taken further.
The previous UK Owner had replaced radio which we needed to replace with a better one however when the fitter removed it he found all the internal wiring had been removed and only allowed for a very basic replacement and even this does not work well, certainly no sat nav.  As I am disabled I hVe both mobility scooter and wheelchair in van as well as 3 small dogs so alphie is absolutely ideal.
we are both 76 live on Isle of Wight so am limited with places to do work and can do very little ourselves but we have a great guy on the island selling Alphies so we were just hoping for model and spec so that he would have some idea of what to look out for us.

  8. Hello Patricia,

If you are dissatisfied with the issues with your Alphie, it is entirely understandable you want to take this opportunity to upgrade.

You are extremely fortunate to live so close to one of the best Alphard suppliers. North Star Conversions.

They are, in my opinion, in the 'top league'.

Sat Nav is a simple issue to deal with.

Discrete units can be bought; they will not fit neatly into your dash console (which can be an advantage) but are easy to use.

Hi Car just failed mot because speedometer was in mph only. Tester said it also needed to show kph even though it passed last year!

Any know where I would get an overlay for an Alphard?

    So Gerry,

    I just checked the DVLA.

What section did you receive a Fail for ?

Section 7.8 seems to be the relevant one, as far as I can determine. (I have not read them all !).

Possible "Operation Impaired"; but it isn't, is it.

There was no mention of the speedo having to read kilometers too !

Try persuasion then go walkies to another station and ask them first before paying any fee !

Can anyone recommend a gearbox specialist in the East Anglia region?  My CVT is juddering under acceleration and none of the nearby transmission specialists are interested.

    Hi Jim,

    Welcome to the Forum

Have you checked the members recommendations on this Forum ?

There is a section for servicing.

We have a 2004 3 litre 8 seater Alphard not converted.

unhappily on Thursday we were involved in an rtc and our other car is now a write off. Seatbelt injuries broken ribs but although very painful could have been so much worse.

So discussion on what to do. Partner not 100%happy with current Alphard niggly things nothing major just bits not working or not even on our model we never realised there were so many models and specs. But we wanted to exchange for a less powerful engine now this will be our only car.

    Basic requirements.

    2.4 automatic

    8 seats

    double sunroof

as much as possible working from dash radio front and rear cameras head unit

    indicator mirrors parking assistance

    good set of remotes

    wood grain cab finishing

just for starters so can anyone point me in the direction of which model i should be looking for and the earliest year I will find all this.

    many rhanks

    Hello Patricia,

So you have an Alphie and want to buy another one ?

Possibly trading in your current one.

I think you should reconsider your direction.

    What would I do ?

Firstly, I would list the niggly things on this Forum, and await responses.

This Forum is exceptional at offering advice / solutions.

Not always right first time but often are.

You may be able to rectify your issues far more cheaply than replacing your Alphie.

My only observation of your Alphie is that it has a four speed gearbox.

2005 to 2008 had 5. Later models models have 6, probably more on the very latest models.

There are many recommendations, on this Forum, for the better dealers. Check out the relevant section.-

If you intend to use your insurance pay-out to 'trade-up'; many informed members will advise you to go for the latest model you can afford.

    Good Luck and Happy hunting.

Is the speedo reading mph and the odometer reading miles ?

I think, note think, they are incorrect

I would ask another MOT station what their view is.

OR read the DVLA Guidance for MOT Inspectors yourself. VERY good and comprehensive.

If yous tester is wrong, and you can guide them to the relevant clause in the guidance; they should admit their error and pass it.

If you know they are wrong and won't reconsider, take it someplace else

I have just put a deposit on a 2007 Alphard . I have dreamt of owning one for years. Should pick it up next week. I got it from japcarimports locally and its in mint condition. I am amazed how come the mileage on these motors are so low. They must be used for very short journeys of in Japan

If going wild, and using solar, consider your leisure battery capacity.

There is a very lengthy thread in this Forum on E5 or E10.

Search for E5 E10 in the search box on your home page

I respectfully suggests you read it as there is quite a difference of opinions, including my own.

    Hi,

No reason really but it may be useful and more comfortable to sleep on......maybe.

I will be covering the seats we have a lurcher so I don't want them damaging. She has a hammock so won't be directly on the seats but, I don't want them damaging.

Thank you so much for your time. We are really excited to collect it and drive her 150 miles home!

    Regards

    Syl

There are several methods for making sleeping more comfortable, as the bolsters can be a tad intrusive.

I use real thin single mattresses, with stout cushions underneath.

Others use self inflating air beds.

Imho, single beds are better for hot summer nights.

    Some sleep under an awning.

I have seen frames that level the bed, but could stretch the leather.

There are shaped foam sections that can be bought or made.

I use a dog hammock for our Sprollie .

Sorry I am picking it up Saturday

Looks really nice, just like mine.

Take care of the leather is does 'stretch' quite easily.

The answer to your question is very complicated, so I will send you a PM.

Why do you want them to swivel ?

Sleeping or Dining, or other reason ?

I expect you will be absolutely delighted with it.

    Hi all,

I was thinking of buying a 2018 Vellfire from jap. Just wondering, if a windscreen needs to be replaced at some stage. How much of a head ache is it? I can't seem to find a part number for one online and any places I've searched seem to be all out of stock..

I would have assumed that the windscreen in the Alphard/Vellfire would be the same type as a few other Toyota models? Or is that wishful 🤔
