Yes I know that, I did not say they were Maintence Manuals. Torq2u wanted to know about the seats and that info is in the manual along with other useful info

My reply was intended to clarify and inform other readers; not yourself.

I habitually recommend the JPNZ Owner Manual to all members.

You have to remove the head rests from all of the seats, slide the seats as far forward as they will go then pull the recliner lever and push the backrests backwards as far as possible, if you get an owners manual off ebay or amazon it has lots of useful info in it including the seats

    JPNZ Owners Manual.

there are two versions, one includes the hybrid, the other does not.

    Neither are Maintenance Manuals.

    Hi,

We are thinking about buying an Alphard 2006 hybrid side conversion campervan and I just wanted to see whether anyone has any suggestions for toddler sleeping ideas? It doesn’t have a safety net for the pop top (and apparently the layout would make putting him up there a bit awkward) so I don’t think that’s an option. There also doesn’t seem to be a front seat option either, that I’ve found. He sleeps in a cot at home so ideally would like a similar set up for the van. I saw this pop up cot bed and wondered whether we could make some kind of base for the cab for it to sit on. Has anyone else done something similar?

    Hello Nicola,

    Welcome to the Forum.

Can I suggest you buy a dog hammock and rig it across the front seats ?

Small mattress under or cot over it !

You'll need a (external) windscreen cover to provide shade for him.

    It's gen 1, 2005 facelift, 8 seats.

Sorry, should have said all that!

    Hi Graeme,

    Same model as me !

I am unable to understand your problem !

Is your drivers seat electric ?

I run a different configuration now, but do not remember any issues before.

It was 'tight' and headrests needed to be removed before sleep time.

can yoy PM me a photo of the seating in sleep mode, please ?

I'd dearly love to be able to move the front seats forward a tad, or just tilt the backrests a tad further forward to accommodate our mattress when rear seats are folded down (rear conversion).

Does anyone know if there's a way to do this please, eg by somehow removing a seat runner stop ?

    Hi Graeme,

I see you have the Generation 1 model.

Is it the facelifted model or the earlier one ?

I ask as2005 was the changeover year.

On my Alphard rear conversion the double seat behind the driver is stops by a square nut in the rails see picture. This means it doesn't come fully forward and you cant lay the seat flat. I'm sure when we brought it we were shown the seats down OK could they have been turned round which I think they do but its a bit of a pain. What do the screws that hold the rails down go into, a nut or can I get it undone from the top? Thanks for any assistance 😉

Just insured my 2004 3.0 with Aviva zero. Quoted £253 fully comp with £250 voluntary excess which I thought was very reasonable, but I knocked the excess down to zero and added on legal cover, protected no claims and a hire car, came out at £330 which still isn't too bad. £30 Amazon voucher from Groupon and £20 Halfords voucher from confused.com into the process.

Admiral were about the same but they wanted me to tie it into my home insurance and have the same renewal date, no thanks.

    Swinton wanted £851!!

Interesting. I have two vehicles already with Aviva; I need to try them again.

Hi. My 2008 type 20 Vellfire had 205 55 17s tyres on it when I bought it. I bought a translated Handbook shortly after I bought the car and mine should have (and has now) 215 60 17s (Goodyear) the ride is much better now and my cruise control now does the correct 68/9mph on the motorway. It was only doing 63/64mph with the old tyres.

Most tyre dealers should becable to advise.

I used to use Goodyears on my Chrysler Voyager. They were always the best!!!

    Hi John,

If your machine is a 20 series, can you please change your profile to reflect that.

Or, I can do it for you.

Currently, you seem to have a facelifted Generation 1 (Series 10.

Planning to take our 2003 Alphard to France in a couple of weeks.

I've just found that that we may need a Crit'Air vignette sticker for certain cities, but to apply I need to state the Euro emissions standard (EURO1 - EURO6) which isn't on the registration document. How do I find that out?

Also, do I need to use headlight deflectors?

    Thanks

This is a reply Monster S gave to another member

is it a hybrid? the only true way is to take it into a mot centre and get them to run an emissions test for you.

As far as I am aware, you will need headlight deflectors AND I would turn off the AFS , if you have it.

Will be going to Cornwall (from London) in the summer, what’s the most fuel efficient route?

As a resident of Devon, you pose an interesting question.

East side of London travellers tend to prefer the A303

North and west side the M5.

Much of the A303 is dual carriageway, however some is not, as at Stonehenge; which can be very slow

When at Exeter, you need to chose Okehampton or Plymouth.

The road to the far west of Cornwall has been improved immensely in recent years.

Depends on your scenic preferences and day and time of your proposed journey.

AA Route Planner offers expected journey times, as do most Sat Navs.

    Safe Journey.

    Me ? M5

I'm a muppet. I've just gone to check again as it didn't feel right. The tyres fitted are 225/55/17. I misread the (dirty) sidewall.....so all good.

Note to self. Double check next time before spending two hours on tyre websites.....

That appears to be the correct size for the AS model

    Hi

I bought a 2006 ANH10 about 9 months ago, converted to a full campervan spec. Loving it, but it's got the Japanese tyres from when it was imported on it and whilst they look to have plenty of tread they appear to be 10 years old so want to replace them. They are 255/55/17 and I can't find these tyres anywhere, it seems to be an unusual (at least for the UK) size!

So I did some digging and this site https://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyota/alphard/2006/ seems to indicate that the stock size for my Alphard is 225/55/17 (or for 16 inch rims, 205/65/16) - considerably smaller! I'm wondering if the previous owner in Japan put some bigger tyres on for looks. If so this might also explain why my fuel economy is even worse than I thought it would be....also if they are the wrong size then my speedo is going to be out (not by a lot according to https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/) but stilll...

Anyone able to offer any other info that might confirm or contradict my research?

    Thanks

There are tyre / wheel sizing websites on the internet.

    I haven't checked yours above.

Something to watch out for is the tyre width.

So, for example only, 255 is 1.5 inches wider than 205.

With any given offset (also important not to change) that will reduce both body to tyre clearance and chassis to tyre clearance by3/4 inch.

The wheel arch and suspension clearances (to the wheel/tyre) under dynamic conditions can alter dramatically; cannot realistically be measured.

Changing the type profile will affect your speedo, but, imho, increasing the overall diameter of the wheel tyre combination can exacerbate the clearance issue and is far more important

There are many correct and 'safe' combinations (if done properly) and even more that are not !

Lowering the tyre profile will, generally, lower the vehicle and increase ride stiffness; unless the rim is increased.

    Complicated. Yes.

Which is why these tyre wheel models are so helpful in maintaining safety.

AND, to be pedantic, fitting non-'standard' tyre /wheel combinations is a Modification as far as insurance companies are concerned !

Unless changes are radical I would not expect the overall gearing to be changed.

Rolling resistance will be, so that will affect economy; I have no idea by how much. Minor, I expect.

Make sure any model you use includes changes to the clearances. They are there for a reason.

Insured our 2006 2.4 petrol with full camper conversion done professionally with Comfort Insurance, it's Aviva underwriting it though. Fully comp, 0% no claims (don't ask) for me and the better half, 500 quid. Due for renewal in July so will shop about but we went with Comfort last year because when I tried a few of the bigger companies, no-one wanted to touch it! I'll try Aviva direct at renewal time.

Aviva covered my Alphie, until it was converted; they didn't cancel but told me to find someone else !

Very strange that Aviva underwrite Comfort Insurance.

But then, the market is changing constantly.

Hi thief fault I had the other week has come back I was taking to a guy in work and he said check the earth lead from the negative to the chassis could anyone point in the right direction to wear the earthing points are please cheers Jimmy

Just follow the negative battery lead until it is attached to the body.

As you friend says, check both ends too.

You may want to consider a 'better' negative connector.

Mine is showing signs of age !

    Hi mikli,

The mood lighting in the pillars are led units not bulbs and unlikely to be blown, to remove the piller you first remove the bottom trim because the piller has to be pulled towards you then pulled down or you will snap the plastic clips.

The room lights in the headliner can easily be removed and these do have bulbs, are you sure it's not just a blown fuse as all these lights are on the same fuse.

    Hi Robert,

I have a similar model to yours.

I think your 'bulbs' have already been replaced if they are LEDs.

I needed to replace one of mine, and is was definitely not a LED.

I know that LED replacements are available, and probably brighter and more reliable.

So you would probably need to replace all of them to achieve an even brightness !

    Hi.

I have a 2019 alphard 3.5, is there a setting where I can change the display KM to miles?

    Hello Kenneth,

    Welcome to the Forum.

Lucky you, having such a new Alphie.

On the older models there is a chip change that achieves it.

On a model as new as this, many of us would not know ! Sorry.

    Good Luck.

The problem is, I think, that the comparison being discussed is not a true bench test of fuel consumption. 200km in a single motorway journey (if that is what this is) is, of course, not comparable to a few hundred km of mixed predominantly motorway and A road driving. As most fuel inefficiency comes from pulling this heavy vehicle from a start, or braking and accelerating, then you'd expect a series of shorter journeys to use more fuel. Saying that, I am sure I've read that there is not a huge difference between the 3.5 and 2.4 on the motorway, as 2.4 has to work harder. In this case perhaps you'd expect urban driving to be the main difference, and this would be clearer still with the hybrid model.

As Stephen says, there is no real MPG.

If there is, then please tell me "How long is a piece of string?"

Even UK Government figures for non JDM vehicles are open to serious question.

There is a lengthy thread on this Forum where members report their own vehicle consumption'

Even those, real that they are, are not benchmark results.

    Hello David,

    Welcome to the Forum.

It depends on which Head Unit you have as multiple units were fitted (I think).

The JPNZ Owners Manual has several, and eightseater.blogspot.com had the popular HDD unit
