Reserve fuel roulette
big_boz replied to big_boz's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
That's a hell of a reserve, that's 15% of the total fuel tank! 15l of fuel in my old TDI Passat would go 150 miles! Ok it's probably about 60 with a fair wind in the vellfire....but still! Lol -

Reserve fuel roulette
big_boz replied to big_boz's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Just had a look in my owners manual and with the use of Google translate it's got a 65l tank..... that's 10l left when the dash said zero! -

60 isn't it? If it's 70 that would imply I had over 15l still in the tank when it said empty with a range of 4 miles. 15 litre would be about another 100 miles! -
Reserve fuel roulette
big_boz replied to big_boz's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
At the time the dash was showing 6.1 miles per litre at the point of filling it, so in theory 30 miles left. Speed pulse converter might very well be an effector. I do think the tank could be a bit bigger for sure, I don't find it too thirsty by the tank is too small, I'd happily pay £100 for a tank to get 500 miles range or there abouts -
Played a bit of fuel roulette last night in our 2.4 CVT. I had 60miles left of range (dash is converted to miles) and I was 45 miles from cheap super unleaded at Costco on my way home. I arrived at Costco with 4 miles range left on the dash following a 68mph cruise along the m1.....mild squeaky bum but I had faith we would make it. Now here's the rub, I could only get 55l in, and that was filling the filler neck to the max. That means I actually had over a gallon and realistically another 30 ish miles left in the tank. Is this to be expected, anyone else seen similar? Il be trying it again at some point and see if I get a similar result.

Rear dash cam
big_boz replied to big_boz's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Perfect, cheers Skippy. I would normally drop the headliner a touch and then I have a 10ft pokey stick that I would feed the wire down the car, but there is alot going on with our headliner, TV, vents, lights, I have twin sunroofs like you, didn't look fun to drop it! -
Anyone fitted a rear dash cam? Did you route the cable above the roof lining? If so how hard is it to drop the headlining enough to poke the cable down to the front?

SHIFTER ILLUMINATION
big_boz replied to dave murrell's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Meant to say, I took the centre console out there is a plug that connects under the pocket with the flap that's next to the shifter, mine was disconnected, plugged it in and the lights come on -
Electronic conversion. At a guess the alternator has the bed, would explain the electrical gremlins and then a day later it's running out of electrons. I know car's, not something I'm worried about. Run fine for the whole time we have had it, put a fair few miles on it, cold weather always cocks electrics if they are weak

I may never buy a car from any other dealer ever again 😂

XL tyres required?
big_boz replied to mick85's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
It's not the XL you need to be concerned with it's the load rating. Think mines on 97s which would be 730kg per corner. Not Sure what the recommended is but gross weight is what 2000kg? I guess in theory you could put on 95s once you account for weight distribution by axel and potentially how much load you carry that would be 690kg per corner. -
Anyone had any issue with the dash not showing the gearbox position? I'm not getting the reverse camera wake up when putting the car in reverse (2.4 cvt) and noticed that the dash is not indicative of what the gear pos is (P R N D M) also not getting reverse lights come on, so appears as if the ECU isn't getting a signal from the box. Any ideas, feels like a plug might have come loose but I can't see anything not attached. Was fine this morning so feels like a plug or a fuse issue?

HEAD UNIT to MONITOR
big_boz replied to dave murrell's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
You can connect the head unit to the screen but all it can do is mirror what's on the Head unit. In the OEM Japan state there is a dvd player, but that isnt the case with an aftermarket android head unit -
HEAD UNIT to MONITOR
big_boz replied to dave murrell's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Don't bother, if you have a new and modern android auto unit fitted, the only thing you can really do with the rear screen is mirror the head unit. -
Centre seat reconfiguration
big_boz replied to fiaraz's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
No then, there is no native way to spin the seats unfortunately. As mentioned, Northstar make swivel bases, but they are expensive @ £1200 but they won't sell you them unless you have a rear conversion done....by them. I would suspect that you could take some standard swivel bases and weld some frames together that could adapt them to fit.....I'd guess that is what Northstar have done. I have had based put together to adapt seats to fit before, but I know a chap who can weld -

Centre seat reconfiguration
big_boz replied to fiaraz's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Assume you have an ah20 with the centre row as 2 captains chairs? I don't believe they can be spun by design, Northstar sell swivel bases at £1200 fitted, but they will only do it if you have a rear conversion, I emailed them to get more info. -
Sorry I wasn't clear, I wasn't directly comparing the Alphard hybrid specifically, I was talking about all hybrids, which are not comparable on a run with a derv counterpart. Local running about certainly better, but the point is it's about use case. I actually could run a hybrid these days because most of my motoring is local, in years gone but I would be putting 15-20k a year on my total on the motorway but no longer, now it's school runs and shopping trips with the odd long run....but I have a big diesel Volvo for that. That said, I still don't think the value balance is there for a hybrid Alphard financially. The added complexity and potential Bork factor dosent outweigh the lower purchase and servicing coats of the na petrol. I just don't do enough miles to get any potential fuel saving back in a reasonable time. All about use case.
