No worries, just glad to get it cleared up. So a 2005 with a kerb mirror is a Gen 1 Face-lift after all 🙂 I think I used a Wikipedia page as a reference, so I would not be too surprised for that to be wrong.

There is a normally a permanent power as well as an ignition detect - so it's most likely to be a blown fuse or broken connection on the permanent power feed. When the car gets started the ignition detect will power up the car. I had one radio where the permanent and ignition detect were fed from the same source - the ignition detect. So in the sample pic below you would be checking the yellow wire, the red would be working Ok:

First long trip, mostly motorways with some country roads early in the morning, so fairly light traffic and consistent. There was a little urban driving. Went from top-up to top-up a a trip reset and got: Metric Imperial Kilometers 525.00 326.22 Miles top up 66.66 price per litre 1.33 litres bought 50.16 11.03 Gallons KpL 10.47 29.57 MpG Which is probably close to a best case scenario. I have removed the rather messy camper conversion and it's now basically a 5 seat van. I tried to use the cruise control when I could but on the journey back the traffic was a little too busy to allow that a lot of the time. Still - I'm quite pleased that a long journey isn't too far down on the economy scale.

Yep, a picture might help, and I'm not fussed about my carpets - they fit well and don't move around.

I can't say that I have - I have no issues with my pedals - I assume yours are like mine?

If you are handy (if not take it to a garage) I would put it up on axle stands (so the front wheels are off the ground and it's all stable) and then see what you can find that might be moving, I would suspect that it's probably one or more worn bearings but it might take some finding. See whether the wheels move when you shake then left-right, up-down or clockwise-anti-clockwise. Do the driveshafts move in and out Does the steering rack rattle (try the steering wheel first - maybe the steering column is loose somewhere) Are the brake calipers bolted on check the anti-roll bar for movement. Basically take a small crowbar and see what moves - you would need to emulate a 2-ton vehicle going over a bump so good luck. That's all I can think of off-hand.

Yep - mine is a May 2005 facelift model (must be one of the first I would imagine) and has the little 'kerb' mirror on the wing.

Ok, so I have taken a peek and the AC 110v button is untouched, The fog light button has some colourful cables coming from it - one of the black ones is an earth and another black one goes to the back of the dashboard. the middle button (left power door) is also untouched. There is also a white connector that looks to come from the harness and has been taped out of the way. The next two spaces have nothing in but there is a grey and a black connector (with a yellow cable snipped) - does anyone recognise what those connectors might be for? The connector for the mirrors seems to be stock and not changed yet.

Well, as far as add-ons go it really depends on what you currently have and what you want / need. I have just fitted Cruise Control to my 2005 2.4l Alphard with approx 50ukp of bits from ebay. As we plan on doing a fair number of long motorway journeys it made sense. I have also fitted: a GPS HUD as my speedo is in KpH, a dashcam for 'just in case', I have changed the 2x 110v 100A sockets in the centre console for 2 dual USB ports and have taken out the rear seats and fitted a wooden floor for us to carry stuff more easily and still have 5 seats.

And having it on a momentary switch would be pointless.

The only real issue I had was that there is another connector (a flat ribbon) at the bottom of the 'steering wheel button' assembly that I couldn't get to detach so I swapped the connector cable rather than the whole unit. I now need to tie-wrap the replacement cable into place, but no biggie. It took about 30 mins and would have been less if I have the right tools with me from the start. Yep - it all works fine, having tested it on a local 40 MPH section of road. rather chuffed with that.

OK, so I either have faulty wiring or missing module. When I get a chance I will pop the switch out from the dash and see what the wiring looks like. Thanks everyone, at least I am not alone in the button pushing world 🙂

Before I spend time (and quite likely money) on this can anyone confirm or deny that it's possible to get the wing mirrors to (un)fold when the car in (un)locked? I can press the button to fold them (so that bit works fine) but often have to remember to open them after pulling away from where I have parked and return to the car after locking it to fold them. If it can be done and someone has the part number(s), a link to a video on how to do it etc. that would be appreciated 🙂 Cheers in advance. Paul

Good morning Sunesh - I am afraid I am not sure what you mean by 'auto light' is this an internal or external light? What makes it automatic? The only item I can think of is when it gets dark the headlights will come on, is that what you mean?

That is not a concern - there are plenty of people with older Alphards - mine is a 2005.

I would take a look at ebay and check out people breaking ones - it should be made a little easier as it's not dependant on the colour of the vehicle.
