Gamith Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Before I spend time (and quite likely money) on this can anyone confirm or deny that it's possible to get the wing mirrors to (un)fold when the car in (un)locked? I can press the button to fold them (so that bit works fine) but often have to remember to open them after pulling away from where I have parked and return to the car after locking it to fold them. If it can be done and someone has the part number(s), a link to a video on how to do it etc. that would be appreciated 🙂 Cheers in advance. Paul
Gamith Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 This, for instance, looks straight-forward enough: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007565809483.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.9.3774afcBafcBr7&algo_pvid=67fd46cc-30b9-4436-84ff-5744beba0bb9&aem_p4p_detail=202410200651511337685933295950009316915&algo_exp_id=67fd46cc-30b9-4436-84ff-5744beba0bb9-4&pdp_npi=4%40dis!GBP!77.97!23.39!!!702.43!210.72!%402103868a17294323114472840e543f!12000041322110936!sea!UK!6132551462!X&curPageLogUid=471IsO5hqd1W&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A&search_p4p_id=202410200651511337685933295950009316915_4 but I am wondering whether a specific module (like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204153716904?_skw=mirror+auto+fold+module+Toyota+Alphard+2005+2.4+MK+I&itmmeta=01JAN32QB3AEPZH3V3TSQTXGBH&hash=item2f888280a8:g:XUMAAOSw3Cxjc41A&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABEHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKktMC8vO2o8wmSfQlWIpyFXsvdmiEDNE0fzTNUNnzMRyQmpWdOM3GBVoaOVKc3we4aU1EzbFYyZZopUU%2Bhe3PQflhFWAP3PIJiWq3nx8R9CNufUNud65yYHGhV8k8q7hCWy%2B3YUxyjlA8C%2B6KXAjFmNk0IAxj43txfU4HAX9vaFeQN7FvmJqOa6riYwh8cFhW2WodwfnHeSLkzKzju8guI3rN%2BN0rlaQ8VOTY1OUdfmLmgNxcS0pv6U4SVN4eahB2Kb9Bny7J%2Br3lqnm5M05Pcou1d60Li%2Fgsn2aMnxmQwzKtvuzL5XuUoUPTCSpO72QCsv0BtYTZTIahPfT9AwMn8x|tkp%3ABFBM1vWKo9Vk) would be a better choice.
ThuMentaliss Posted October 20 Posted October 20 should unfold when the ignition starts up would suggest your mirror switch via drivers door is either faulty or maybe poor connection
John Harrison Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Hi. My AH20 2008 Vellfire mirrors only fold in and out when I press the button. I would like them to be auto when the ignition is on or off. John Harrison. Wallasey
Monksey Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Hi gamith, I think it must be in a setting or as stated before a faulty switch / wiring, Mine is a 2007 and mirrors fold in and out when I lock or unlock from the remote keyfob.
Gamith Posted October 21 Author Posted October 21 OK, so I either have faulty wiring or missing module. When I get a chance I will pop the switch out from the dash and see what the wiring looks like. Thanks everyone, at least I am not alone in the button pushing world 🙂
Gamith Posted October 22 Author Posted October 22 Ok, so I have taken a peek and the AC 110v button is untouched, The fog light button has some colourful cables coming from it - one of the black ones is an earth and another black one goes to the back of the dashboard. the middle button (left power door) is also untouched. There is also a white connector that looks to come from the harness and has been taped out of the way. The next two spaces have nothing in but there is a grey and a black connector (with a yellow cable snipped) - does anyone recognise what those connectors might be for? The connector for the mirrors seems to be stock and not changed yet.
Gamith Posted November 19 Author Posted November 19 Ok - I have bought the AliExpress option and will have to wait for a week or so before I can get a chance to fit it - in the meantime ... prep work. So far I have the following: Test the Green (port 14) and Purple (port 13) wires for mirror Extend / Retract then cut Green and Purple wires (*) Colour Comment Wire Location Yellow Accessory feed Probably cigarette lighter feed or similar Grey Switch On of side mirror (+) I14/14 Green(*) wire connected to switch White Switch Off of side mirror (+) I14/13 Purple(*) wire connected to switch Black Ground Any Ground point Red 12v Any Permanent feed - probably behind radio Green Door Open signal from actuator can be left unconnected Blue Door Close signal from actuator can be left unconnected Orange Output for Closed side mirror (+) I14/14 Green(*) wire from switch Brown Output for Open side mirror (+) I14/13 Purple(*) wire from switch (*or whichever wires trigger the Extend / Retract!) In the meantime I have fitted a TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitor System), again fromAliExpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005905465911.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.1.6b865283JLGH4i&algo_pvid=75d0a259-ba67-497b-825c-cf67009b0b56&algo_exp_id=75d0a259-ba67-497b-825c-cf67009b0b56-0&pdp_npi=4%40dis!GBP!28.12!12.09!!!250.40!107.66!%40211b80f717320535596441749e2186!12000034790308000!sea!UK!6132551462!X&curPageLogUid=dukR9zIg0r63&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A) which installed really easily and seems to do the job, lets see whether the caps fall off or get nicked.
Gamith Posted December 8 Author Posted December 8 Currently I am trying to resolve this nice diagram: With the reality of the plug and cables that are actually at the back of the switch: It seems to me that the door mirror Return / Retraction motor must be sent a signal down the Green and Purple lines that switches between positive and negative to get it to go out and in respectively. I started testing with a Fluke to see which ones were being sent a 12v signal but just ended up confused. It seems that pins 1 (blue), 3 (grey) and 4 (white) are being used, and the polarity does change. It seems that: in 'Out' mode pin 1 is + and pin 4 is -, but in 'In' mode pin 1 is - and pin 3 is + I am now back indoors warming up. I have put everything back as it's starting to get dark now 😞 If anyone has a more useful line out for this plug / socket I would be all ears (eyes really I guess).
Gamith Posted December 15 Author Posted December 15 Update: So I have found out that lines 1 (blue) and 2 (yellow/green) are the lines that send the Mirrors Out and Mirrors In signals respectively. I proceeded to add the module, cutting the two wires and putting the module in between, feeding it a permanent 12V, the ACC 12v a ground connection . However, I seem to have blown the ACC 12v feed and somehow managed to make the touchscreen on the head unit not work also. So I have now reverted back to having to push a button to get the mirrors to (un)fold and having to not use the touchscreen. I have checked the fuses in the two boxes under the bonnet, they are ok and, reading the manual I can't see any in the passenger or drivers side that could be relevant - and as I am not an octopus I haven't been able to reach them to check. I suspect that there must be a fuse somewhere that I haven't found yet. 😞
BigNev Posted Monday at 08:46 PM Posted Monday at 08:46 PM Hi guys! Just a quick basics check, is the folding mirror switch set to the middle position? I have only had ours a short time, but have noticed it over rides the automatic function if it's not in the middle. Cheers!
Gamith Posted Monday at 10:43 PM Author Posted Monday at 10:43 PM Thanks for the suggestion. I'm pretty sure it's in the middle but I will check tomorrow. Equally I guess it's possible that the switch is in the middle but the signal that says so isn't getting through. 1
