Hi All.

Sensors:

  • I can't get used to my parking sensors.  They seem to only register an obstacle when I am already very close to it, therefore it is not really useful.  Maybe around 2 feet of it.
  • In my previous JDM van, an 1994 Estima with Gen 1 parking sensors, they were calibrated very well.  And I could basically drive and park with a 6th sense.  They also had a dedicated rear sensor, not just at the corners.

Backup Camera:

  • I only wish that it was tilted up a bit more to capture what was directly behind me.  the ETC warning also blocks out the top 1/5 of the screen.

What do you guys think?

Mine work Ok - I get a rear, front and corner warnings and they are graduated well, with 3 levels of warning (I think).

My only complaint is that the rear camera is rather zoomed in, so you don't get any idea of where the vehicle is in relation to the view.

Is it possible that the sensors have been rotated (if that's possible, they are round) so you aren't getting the coverage that you should - maybe they are scanning a lot more sky then they should?

What head unit do you have?

You can adjust the distance they start screaming at you.

My Alphard has 4 rear sensors, not just the corners.

You can calibrate the camera from the headunit.

With engine running, and lights off, hold the top right physical button on the headunit, and flick lights on and off 3 times to enter service menu.

Use a translator app like Google translate, you can navigate to the camera settings.

My parking sensors are great. They can beep and I can still keep going. They are after all just an aid to parking.

My gripe with the camera is that at night it becomes useless, because the light from the number plate lights affects it. Its even worse in the rain and as the original importer took one of the reversing lights to make a fog light, its limited anyway

What type of bulb do you have in numberplate lamps?

My rear camera is almost like nightvision.

Do you have a photo? I'll grab one from mine tonight

The one with the red is when the brake light is on. the other is the normal view when I reverse

You have aftermarket camera or headunit?

You are right, that does not look good, it's like it doesn't have a low light setting.

The camera is the original camera. The head unit is an Android head unit. It is connected with an adaptor. I have never had the original head unit. When I got the car it had a Sony Head Unit and the camera was not wired in. Infact it was quite a mess with the cables behind there.

If the camera can work better in the dark, i might have a look in the settings and see if I can change something
