What makes a ‘Club’
Oddcouple replied to Oddcouple's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Thank you for your input. The first point around members actually wanting to have meets is the purpose of this post! Arranging informal meets really is not too much of a problem and not entirely sure why these things are being referred to as ‘issues’. Also was unaware that it was against forum rules to try to arrange a get together and we had to go through the owners, for that I apologise. Fantastic that you would want to attend and I’d guess that there are quite a few owners in your most beautiful part of the county who would happily meet up on a sunny Sunday afternoon (I believe there will be one of those mid August). With regards to the club appearing as a club, I would’ve thought this would automatically been taken on by those who are involved in running the club? If this is not the case, I’m pretty sure that there are others, myself included, who would be more than happy to discuss attending events with event organisers and booking in ‘x’ amount of vehicles to attend. In the past we have encouraged new people to join groups I have been involved with by attending events, being seen, being friendly, having a bit of fun. In my experience this only fosters a more positive community feel and also a great way to gain affiliation with useful organisations. Also aware that this might go absolutely nowhere and this will remain an online only forum, but no harm in asking! -

And the movement grows, at this rate we’ll have to hire a bigger phone box….. -
Rather than just asking last question, I had a quick search on ceramic coating. Certainly looks interesting, would be nice to see if there’s much visual difference in the depth of colour..

No problem at all, will always try to help if I can or shut up if I can’t! -
Jason, please excuse my ignorance, not come across ceramic coating before? We have a black Vellfire so would be interested to see the results/benefits…..

2010 AH20 Velfire Head unit change
Oddcouple replied to Mathew's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
Totally agree with this. When I asked for help contacting him all I had was ‘search for him’, at the time I wasn’t sure if there were some ‘rules’ that we couldn’t give out contact details for trades. I found him on Facebook, he’s easy to spot, massively obvious motor in his profile pic 😆, also really helpful guy, responded within a couple of minutes. This all goes back to my point about ‘what is a club’. Perhaps admin could look at setting up useful contact databases in a separate area on this forum? I know there is a thread on insurance companies, but the majority are simply basic searches. It would be great to get affiliation with some people and gain benefit from being in this club. Just an opinion everyone……calm down….. -

So from what currently stands at 32 views, we have 3 people (4 including us) who have an opinion 😆. On a plus point, at least 4 of us would like to be involved in meeting up, it looks like regional meets would consist on one motor sitting in a pub car park, but a dynamic national meet looks possible 😂 -
2010 AH20 Velfire Head unit change
Oddcouple replied to Mathew's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
We are keeping out original head unit and having CarPlay installed while keeping all functionality. Ben Hau, in Birmingham will do this for about £350 if that helps. -

Agreed, and thank you for the positive input. I parked next to an alphard yesterday in the hope of meeting the owners and starting a revolution, unfortunately we never met 😆 -

Fantastic and far reaching thought, in all honesty, I didn’t even think that far ahead. -
Just a thought. Having been involved in the dub scene for many years, clubs we’ve been involved in have had affiliated sites, discounts, social meets, show meets. Generally a good community feeling. For all the members on here, there doesn’t seem to be much going on other than a few regular posters on the forum. Just wondered what people thought about this, or for those who have been involved in clubs before, what their experience was?

No problem, they are really nice folk, we’re getting full conversation from them in July, pics to follow!

Northstar on the Isle of Wight offer tow bars as part of their conversions so I’d guess they could be a shout, not too far from you..

Suspension braces

Well it certainly drives like a normal car, and when on SP4, it takes off in a way that upsets the fuel gauge 😆 -
Lovely looking motor, enjoy!

Yeh, after a bit of searching around that seems to be the case although not quite sure why! Perhaps that explains the electric throttle controller that’s been fitted, clearly someone thought they were a boy racer 😆 -

I believe that once it’s registered it should be fine, but happy to be corrected…. -

Looks like we won’t make this one now as the van will be mid conversion, ready for the next one! -
We had a wee bit of bad news last week. Adrian, who was doing our conversion was let down last minute by the guys that make his cabinets. We feel gutted for him as he has now lost quite a bit if work because of this. He suggested we call Northstar on the Isle of Wight to see if they could help. After a 30 minute phone call on Thursday, we ended up on the ferry yesterday to visit. Carol walked us through the entire workshop, looking at every stage and type of conversion. Hugely impressive operation and so friendly. We then spent a bit of time going through way to many colour options for me to cope with (thankfully Mrs was on hand for such things) and ended up placing an order there and then. We drop off on 4th July and pick up on 23rd (we wanted a Saturday pick up), all ferry costs included in the price, really excited with what we now have coming. It’s a bit more than we were paying, but we’ve included a lot more on the conversion. On the road for summer!

Speed rating
Oddcouple replied to Oddcouple's topic in Toyota Alphard & Vellfire Club Forum (2008 - 2015)
I’m running 235/50r18 101W, just feel that W is a bit much! Looking at putting all season tyres on, I have michalin cross climate on the car, they’ve been really good so might go for them. A couple of deals around where ‘Y’ ratings are even cheaper. I guess it’s where and when you look……
