Further update. So I decided to buy another km/h to mph converter ( well 2 actually, one they looked similar to the one that was in there, and a different looking one) mainly so that I knew I had a new device / chip or resistor or whatever is in them and secondly so that I had some advice / diagrams on how to wire them in.  If anyone has a detailed circuit diagram for the speedo cluster I’d be greatful as I ended up having to work out what was need by guesswork and some reference to the instructions that came with the converters.

so I have a functioning speedo again, soldered in, which is indicating speed in mph, but the odometer is still not working.

I decide to take the back off the speedo cluster to have a look at the circuit board. I felt sure someone had been in here before because there was a screw missing and various screwdriver type scrape marks. And my odometer is showing 5 figures eg 61,223 miles or Kim’s ( not sure) whereas I expected it to show 061,223 ?? I don’t know if this is a fair assumption as I don’t have anything else to compare it with.

Anyhow, I attach a pic of the back of the board … if anyone else has a similar pic it would be useful to see to compare. My attention was drawn to the bottom left corner which is where the odometer display is…  resistor R107 and resistor R222 might be missing on mounted on the other side of the board?

again, any suggestions gratefully received. I want to get to the bottom of this and get the odometer working again.

If you have a copy of the Auction sheet it will have the recorded distance covered in Kilometres.

If you don't have it, you should ask your seller for a copy.

When the vehicles are imported the DVLA needs to know the odometer reading, so the importer should have (or  had) a copy of the auction sheet.

Hello, the Toyota Alphard I am purchasing is currently going through DVLA registration. When I get the vehicle what documents should I receive from the seller, who imported the car?

Any help or experiences would be  gratefully received.

I would want the auction certificate.

    Very detailed wrt body condition.

Bearing in mind that any manuals, operation manuals etc will be in Japanese, but they are still useful.

You will need to get your vehicle undersealed pdq, especially as where you live

It's actually super cheap and super easy.  I bought a replacement key fob on ebay a couple of years ago for my 2003 Alphard.  All you have to do is open up your current key fob and take the electronic part out (it's totally self contained, and literally pops right out) and pop it in the new one.  Then take it in to a key cutter and get it cut before your other one breaks.  Some places like Timpsons will only use their own blanks, so you'll have to fine someione who will cut the key blade you get from ebay.  But that's it.  It worked fine for me!

Here's the link to the one I bought on ebay:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/402483138579

I'm glad this worked for you.

Owners of face lifted Gen 1 machines, be careful, as what Lance has achieved will almost certainly not work for you.

Gen 1 facelift needs a 4D67 immobiliser chip embedded in the key; and will probably need programming by an Auto Locksmith (or Techstream software).

I have fitted Michelin Aglis Crosstracks to my Alphard, which sounds like the same model as yours. It came with cheap Chinese van tyres, and I did not trust them, and the ride was unpleasant. The Michelins are often sold for larger 4x4 cars, so have no problem with the size and weight of the Aphard hybrid, which is after all 4 wheel drive when it puts its mind to it. The particular ones I have are all-season, but then I live up a farm track at 500 feet on a Scottish hill.

And most importantly, the bus drives beautifully, so I am very happy with the tyres.

The thing when buying a bit off the “standard” is to make sure the load rating etc of the things are appropriate, and a good tyre depot should be able to advise and reassure you about your choice. Just don’t expect them to be cheap.

Please could anyone with gen 2 vehicle confirm what distance they have from the  road to top of wheel arch so I can confirm/ compare  ride height.

I have 18" aftermarket wheels plus runflat tyres and have slightly more gap front than rear. no rubbing issues /problems  just wondering if ride height different on mine.

    Thanks

There are websites that will do this (type of thing) for you.

I can't think of any offhand, but they're out there.

Try the better tyre resellers; they are use to changing wheel and tyre size combinations.

You ought to inform your Insurance company too.

As many are not Alphie friendly, proceed with caution.

hi there, bought an alphard while overseas (I know I know what was I thinking)... had to ... family arrived back in UK before me. Anyhow, drove it for a while 2000 miles or so, tapped the trip meter (which works) and notice that the odometer reading has not changed at all.

Pulled the instrument cluster out to have a look. Found a km to miles adapter thing. Not soldered in.... wires wound around each other and taped.... removed that, to see if putting it back to standard helped. Result was speedo now reads in kms not miles (to be expected) but odometer still not working.

Tried to identify if there was some kind of other device there... a 'mileage blocker' that I've seen advertised... don't think there is. Any idea how to address the non-working odometer. Anything to look for on the board of the speedo itself? haven't opened that up yet.

    Thanks

    Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing a 2013 Alphard 2.4 Hybrid 4wd and am just looking for advice about reliability and any potential issues with the Hybrid system (do the battery's die with age or mileage). It has 25k miles and is in great condition from what I can tell. Are parts easy to come by or easy to source from overseas if needs be. I've found a local garage that works on a few of these and are Hybrid specialists which eases some concern so im just wondering if anyone out there is running one of these and what their thoughts are.

Hi does anyone know of someone that can supply and programme a spare key for my Alphard, imported in 2020, first reg in Japan in 2007, and converted to a camper.

You can buy them on ebay.

You need the key that includes the 4D67 chip. Buy two, they are cheap enough

You will almost certainly need and auto locksmith to programme it.

They will probably need your master key to do it.

You may have had something different as this is a transmitter which picks up everything from your phone like calls, Google maps, music etc via bluetooth and transmits it to your fm radio as long as they are both  tuned to an empty frequency, for me it is 87.5 fm, it gets its power from the cigarette lighter socket, I do not get any interference from anything electrical or otherwise, now I said that I probably will now LOL🤣

I did have something different. No phone involved.

I couldn't be bothered with all the hassle of changing the head unit on ours, so I bought a decent FM transmitter, which have improved over the years, plugged it in the cigarette socket, set it on 87.5, set the FM radio on the same, turned on bluetooth on phone, job done. As We use Alexa loads its on my phone so we now have Alexa in the Alphard as well as Amazon music, all for £15 , just make sure there is room to plug it in as the cigarette socket is a bit recessed.

If it it just FM you need, this should work without any Bluetooth.

I had one in a previous vehicle. It was OK; but could suffer from ignition pickup from the spark plugs.

Thanks all for your replies, so no simple way of way of streaming Spotify through the Bluetooth then?

Was hoping I wouldn't have to swap the stereo out straight away but if that's the option I'll have to order one up.

Have you tried your video input on the back of your centre console ?

If you can get a analogue Spotify audio signal out of any device, that should work.

    Hi all,

    Any recommendations for Alphard garages?

I want a major service completed, I need the front end/steering checked over as the bushes maybe on their way out. I am a bit of a weirdo, as I like prevention rather than cure and do enjoy having all of my vehicles well looked after regularly. If anyone has any recommendations, do let me know. Of course, of you have had a poor experience, that would ge useful also. Maybe private message me if you didn't want to chat openly on the forum.

    Hi Dan,

Have you approached your nearest Toyota dealer ? Or any other mechanic that is Toyota trained ?

Most  official dealers will not work on Imports; but some will.

You have an 'ordinary' Lexus engine; so anyone capable working on Toyotas should be OK.

Many mechanical parts are common across other Toyota models.

There is a list on this forum of common service parts.

Looks like a Japanese head unit.

Sat Nav will not work, as it won't be able to communicate with the correct satellite.

Hi this may have been asked before but does anybody know which kind of awning rail I best for my Alphie, magnetic or permanently attached. I am considering buying a drive away awning. Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Search for Awning on this Forum. Top right on your home page.

Lots of experience will become available.

    Hi,

I’m hoping I’m in the right place and that someone here can help.

Basically, we have a 2009 Vellfire which we bought last year. When we bought it a CarPlay system was installed which upgraded the Vellfire head unit to connect to our iPhones.

The system will play audio from our phones if they are connected. However, the controls do not show up on the screen. We now just get a plain blue screen and cannot select it via the touchscreen.

Does anyone have any idea why this may have happened? Also does anyone know where the CarPlay box may have been located in the car and where I’d have to look to find it so that I can take a look at the connectors to check nothing has fallen out?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, I know that this was installed by someone in Birmingham. Does anyone know of any technicians in the Midlands area who may be able to help fix this?

    many thanks

    Pete

    Hello Pete,

    Welcome to the Forum.

You could try Ben Hau, he is in the Midlands, he may be able to help you.

He is a well know installer of upgrades to head units.

You'll need to search for him on this forum. His number is here somewhere.
