  2. Hi all quick question ...every time I apply the brakes on my 2003 2.4 Alphard a orange warning light that looks like a headlight comes on top left of the binnacle I've not noticed it before I've checked all the lights and they are working fine has anyone ideas .cheers. andy
  3. Check the sensor behind the drivers side rear wheel it could be that or the link has broken both cheap easy fixes ..had the same on mine and it was a broken link...
  4. Had the same on my Alphard ..2.4 it's either dirt in the sensor or the link / levelling bar is faulty .both easy fixes ..my levelling bar was broken I got one off eBay and it under 20 quid..
  5. I used WD40 in case some water had got into the contacts I've been using it for yrs on electrical contacts and have had no problems it's a water dispersant and does have some cleaning properties but is not a dedicated cleaner...the gearbox locks when it's in P its the reverse gear position that's puzzling me as instead of going into the gate to select reverse you have to go half inch past before it will select the gear...there's a cable that goes from the gearbox to the gear lever could this be stretched or can it be adjusted to take up any slack if there is any ?
  6. Hi all I have a weird ignition / gearbox problem on my 2003 ..2.4 alphard....if you turn the ignition key to start the engine it won't turn over you can hear a click but that's it ..this is with the gearlever in P...position but if you put the lever into N or neutral the car will start as normal...also if you put the lever into reverse it won't engage unless the lever goes just pass the gate you then get a beep and the reverse warning beeper goes off and the car goes into reverse...i've unplugged all the gearbox connectors have them a clean and a squirt of WD40 but still no joy...anyone got any ideas...thanks.
  7. Battery is brand new and fully charged. ...didn't know about the sensor though cheers for the info
  8. Hi all I have two problems with my Alphard that's driving me up the wall first one is the power steering that will suddenly switch itself off I've had the fluid changed using the proper stuff guy looked over it said everything was ok filters were very dirty lot of black bits in the old fluid that was cleaned out..worked ok for a day then no power steering again ...the other is sometimes when starting the car it won't turn over you turn the key all the lights on the dash come up you can hear a relay clicking in by the glove box yet nothing as if there's no power to the starter ..if you disconnect the black connector on the starter bridge the gap between the starter power wire and the switch with a couple screwdrivers it will turn over and start ...I had two new keys done thinking it was the transponder worked ok for a few days now problem has come back ....any ideas before I set the bloody thing on fire
  9. The battery is good I tried it with a power pack and jump leads off my van and still no joy ..it's a 2.4 petrol
  10. Hi Steve ...yes the oil level was between the two marks on the dipstick there were no other warning lights and the temperature was ok ..according to the wife the engine revs rose but there was no drive then the oil light came on she immediately pulled into a layby then the engine stopped and that was it ...she was recovered by the rac to home and that's where I found the engine had locked up ...I've had cars sieze and had a cam belt snap and there's normally lots of noise etc she said there was nothing it just stopped ....I know a bit about car mechanics but this has me stumped
  11. Hi ..last week my wife was driving the Alphard she overtook a lorry going up a steep hill when the engine revs went up as if it had gone into kickdown but it lost all drive and slowed down ..the oil warning light came on so she pulled into a layby the engine then cut out and when you turn the key the solenoid clicks but doesn't turn the engine over ...I took the starter off and it spins as it should the battery is fine etc it there is plenty of oil ..coolant etc so my guess is the engine has locked...is this a safety thing if there's a gearbox problem or am I looking at a serious engine malfunction...the van has done 120000 miles has service history and ran lovely up until then ..cheers . Andy
  12. Hi all hope someone can help ..my wife was driving the Alphard ...2.4 petrol auto ..she was going up a steep bank overtaking a slow lorry when the engine revved as if it was on kickdown and she lost all drive luckily she managed to coast into a pull in and now the engine is dead ..turn the key and it just clicks ..there's oil water etc ..is this an engine or gearbox issue ...thanks ..Andy
