  1. I have no idea why this is such a fab premium, but I am very happy with Quote Me Happy ! ( Owned by Aviva by the way - Aviva used to charge me more ), but with a £20 discount for having 2 vehicles, my current premium for my 3.0 Alphard ( retired / up to 8,000 miles / full NCB ) is ONLY £159.36 !!! Long may it continue.

Just to be accurate re my previous post - Road tax on car imports ( at least on vehicles over 10 years old - PLG - Private or Light Goods TC11 ) are currently taxed at the pre 1 March 2001 rates - e.g. Up to and including 1549cc - currently £200 annual, over 1549cc currently £325 annual. Emissions level are not part of the calculation.

As far as I am aware, Japanese Imports ( and any other non domestic market imported used cars ) are not taxed according to emissions - it is based purely on whether it is under 1.5 litres or over that. So if you drive an imported 6 litre V12 car, it will only cost you the same as for a 2.4 Alphard. Presumably it is because the emissions have not been officially tested and authenticated for our market.
  5. Hi Alasdair, good to read yours and Rojie's posts. Re the tailgate struts - I just looked at what is listed on epc-data.com and for my 2002 MZ-G 3.0 they list quite a number of possible struts - which suggests they may have been improved over time - you would need to look into that more closely, but the price of each strut no matter which part number is no more than U.S. $ 110, and then of course you have to add import duties and shipping for UK. Not even sure which ones are electric open/close but you would need to examine yours for part numbers etc. Worth just looking at to see if there are other options - see https://toyota.epc-data.com/alphard/mnh10w/131183/body/6762/68960/ I bought a part from Amayama who operate the website, they packed it well and were very reliable and professional - shipped to me from Japan. Just a thought.
  6. Dogs in an Alphard ? I am horrified. I won't even allow anyone with shoes on in the back of mine - the carpets and footrests are so luxurious and like new - and the car is now 21 years old ! Maybe I am OCD, but I am unlikely to grow out of it at 65.

I don't know if I am way behind some of you but I couldn't find anything on the forum regarding Identification of correct Toyota parts for the Alphard, or what to do if you are really struggling to get hold of a specific part from UK. But I have used the below mentioned link to find parts specific to my model from time to time. I have even used this website to order a part from Japan, and the Company - AMAYAMA were very professional and packaged my delicate part really well for the journey. It arrived in perfect condition. You can insert your precise VIN into the box and find any part number/ exploded diagram of all systems, prices of alternative non-original parts and more. You can look up parts from any car from Japan, and I have found it really useful over the last 8 years since I first bought a JDM car ( now on my 5th - have 2 at present ). Once you click on a part number, it takes you to the AMAYAMA website where you will see a photo of the part, and prices in U.S. $. Hi Bernard, I currently have a 2002 Alphard 3.0 G, but a couple of years ago I had a 2005 Alphard G and I used to get the sound of an electric motor coming from the front nearside possibly behind the bumper. I assumed it was to do with the probe that was fitted to the bumper - something to do with a Japanese means of spotting the corner of the car when manoevering, but I never did confirm that is what it was for sure.
  9. Here's my 2p worth ! When driving an automatic and coming to a temporary stop, it is not necessary to take the transmission out of drive, just apply the footbrake until you are ready to go again. This reduces wear on the transmission. When about to set off again on an uphill section , SWIFTLY move your foot from the foot brake to the accelerator and apply a few revs. No rolling back occurs when done with confidence. The transmission has a pawl which engages on selecting PARK, but this should not be used as a brake, and PARK should really only be selected AFTER you have applied the hand(foot)brake. There is is a risk of expensive damage in an auto transmission if you abuse the PARK facility. If you don't believe me, check out a few Scotty Kilmer videos on YouTube. He knows a think or two about cars, and Toyota in particular.

AVIVA have insured my Alphard for the past few years, but due to a big jump in my multicar premium this year ( 2022 ), I got Insurance for the Alphard through 'QUOTE ME HAPPY ' on line, and they really did quote me happy. I saved a lot of money - and the weird thing is - higher spec of cover, cheaper premium, but they are owned by AVIVA !
  11. My Alphard came from the Dealer with only one electronic key/fob ( + 2 spare manual keys for opening the doors if necessary ). Does anyone know where to obtain a new spare electronic key for this car, and if any alternative Toyota fobs may be encoded ( and how do you do this ). I would prefer a spare key just in case of loss or failure. I could go to a Toyota Dealer and ask but would anticipate a blank look.
  12. On a 3.0 litre, maybe Bank 2 refers to the front bank ( I don't know for sure but it's a possibility ) . There is an O2 sensor on both front and rear manifolds. Best practice says change both at the same time even if one is ok.
  13. Be aware - you won't get much help from an owners manual - that will only tell you how to drive and which buttons do what. Fortunately, the owners manual in Japanese also includes good pictograms, so you can mostly work out what buttons do what from that. I think it unlikely that a proper workshop manual is available anywhere for the Alphard as it was only intended for a limited number of Asian Countries. However, you may be able to get some useful information by researching for a workshop manual for an alternative car which made use of the same engine for example - e.g. UK Lexus RX300 ( for 3.0 1MZ-FE ), or in U.S.A - Toyota Camry, Lexus ES300, and maybe others. I have managed to download free a workshop manual for the CAMRY, and once I have figured out how to open a .RAR file maybe I will see if it is any use for the Alphard.
  14. Hi John, I was looking for the OBD11 port on my 2002 Alphard 3.0 and at first couldn't find it, even when I had been told where it was ! But now I do know where it is - if you put your hand under the plastic dash below the steering wheel - a little to the left of the steering wheel - it is just under the edge of the plastic lower panel - easier to feel than to see, but once you have got it - it is a white plastic socket, and then becomes easy to find again. regards, Graham.
  15. Hi all, just collected my new 2002 Alphard 3.0 MZ-G and looking forward to driving in luxury. Glad to have found this forum as I might be in need of others experience. Looks like I need it already as a minor glitch ( I hope ) on the way home, means I need to find the OBD11 port to find out what made the check engine light come on after 70 miles driving back - query oxygen sensor. This is my 2nd Alphard - I had a 2005 MS Premium with alcantara seats a few years ago, and when I saw this low mileage MZ version I had to have it.
