Most autos give a little 'bump' when changing.
The harder the acceleration or retardation, normally the larger the 'bump'.
In my experience, the smaller the engine the larger the bump!
Have you driven automatics gearboxes before your Alphie ?
Yours should be a 5 speed and quite smooth. (I am talking V6 here).
I have another car which has a very expensive auto gearbox and that has a 'slurring/slipping' effect when changing (unless your driving style is foot to floor then there is a jolt as the box shifts quickly).
As you say, wait and see.
Perhaps other Alphie drivers will comment.

Hi Nov, Thanks for this.
Looks very general ! Is this supposed to be specific to your vehicle ?
The first posting in this thread is for a specific vehicle, and has real value as it includes status.
Do you have a copy of the actual service history of (your) vehicle from this company ?

I've had my first two jabs; waiting for the third. I do have my senior moments; but forgetting the Jab won't be one of them !
Glad you have almost fully recovered.
I think we should consider starting a youtube channel, or make a TV programme about maintaining an Alphie.
Gerry and the Atrics, or, Codger and Rodger, or Heaven in Devon.

My guess is, this is just cold auto oil.
Have you checked the auto oil level ?
Autos do need oil changes from time to time, and the filter.
Someone on here recently did an oil / filter change, but I don't know why. I'll try and find them and ask
As we don't have Service manuals yet, it is difficult to know when we need to change the auto oil.

Morning Shawn,
Oh dear ! That does not look like a quick or cheap fix.
Good luck.

Hi, the fee I am referring to is for the full service history.
I wasn't suggesting there is a fee for the recall information, or corrective action.
Sorry for the error.
I got myself a bit confused. I'll try and find the site and provide a link for the service history info.
As you say the recall link it at the top of this thread, and it works nicely.
I found the link to the provider of Full Service Histories, for those of us who may want, or need, one.
I have not (yet) used this company.

This posting is not intended as a discussion thread.
I post this as there has been many mentions of Ben Hau upgrading the HDD head unit whilst retaining full steering wheel and camera functionality.
I have no financial interest in Ben or his company.

Thank you - I paid Shareef $20 by paypal. I followed the video he sent us, which starts off like many others holding down (in our case, this varies) the MEDIA button while turning the side lights on and off, quickly 3 times. The radio flashes and the screen (finally) starts up! The next bit was a bit tricky following the video through several steps, and pausing now and then to to catch up, pressing this and that Japanese buttons, until a number appears in red at the top. You send this to Shareef and he immediately send you a code, which you enter and then miraculously all the buttons work
Hi Jenny,
This is the person I put you on to.
I am so glad it worked out for you.
He has written to me requesting a photo.
I'll reply that he has already helped you.

My impact wrench would not shift the nuts, which shows how tight they had been. The rear nuts were fine, unfortunately the only way to shift the fronts was to increase the length of leverage.
Not boasting, but I have been in and involved with the motor trade for over 50 years and still have most of the kit, including a 4 post lift in one of our barns. As I have said it's important when you have tyres fitted make sure you see the fitter use a torque wrench for the final tightening.

I’d be suspecting a loose connection or some Mishap with the new radio install. Strange that it was all working and then started to fail. Try that 15a fuse but whilst you’re in there look for any loose connections.
I agree with wjvh, losing the steering wheel functions, if they were working, after the radio install sounds suspicious.
Your dealer needs to check the Kenwood install for a stray wire end, or wiring error.

Thank you I did buy it through a local dealer who I trust 100% will call him tomorrow not that worried about the radio All fuses OK I think it's blown the 15amp fuse built into the radio . I really like to get the mirrors working like you said I think it's a case of reseting them . I'm sure my dealer will help me .
Depending on which 'radio' you have you may decide to upgrade it. Many do.
I have the usual HDD head unit, and many of us keep them as they are so good (although somewhat difficult to use unless you are fluent in verbal and written Japanese).
Many users upgrade, but just be careful you don't loose any functionality you need or care about.
Depending on your head unit, you can connect a smart phone via Bluetooth. Which, I believe, gives you major functionality.
Various head units are in the Owners Manual, as you know, but the HDD units (there are two that I know of) aren't.
Enjoy your Alphie.

When I purcased my Alphard the Dealer had to have it MOT Tested and two new tyres were fitted[plus some disc pads and rear fog light]. Yesterday I decided to fit the mud flaps I had purchased to the rear and front. The rears fitted quite easily, when I went to fit the front set, removing the wheels became a problem as I had to put a 3 foot long tube on the wheel brace to get enough leverage to undo the nuts on both sides. This was obviously a severe case of over tightening when new tyres were fitted and an ratchet air tool used to refit the wheel nuts and not a torque wrench set at the correct torque.
Once I had fitted the mud flaps I put the wheels back on and tightened the nuts enough so that I could lower the Alphard down ready to use a torque wrench set at the recommended torque of 105N.m.[as stated in the Owners Handbook], The correct way to do this is to gradually tighten the nuts diagonally opposite a small amount at a time until the torque wrench"clicks".All was going well until on one nut, long before I reached the correct setting, went slack and I realised the wheel stud had sheared. There is another which feels as though it will shear!
I have seen this happen before on wheel nuts that have been severely over tightened using an air gun. So be warned if you you have wheels removed for any reason, make sure they are tightened using a good quality torque wrench.
Luckily wheel studs and nuts are readily available and are on the way, but it does mean I have to strip off a front brake calliper and disc and hope I can change the broken stud without having to remove the hub.
Thanks to you, Starider, for warning us all of this.
The JPNZ manual does specify 105nM torque. Slightly over 80 foot pounds.
I have a really good torque wrench and, without checking, I doubt it goes to 80 !
I'll check, but it seems, more investment required.
I wish you the very best of luck with your repair.
Where did you get the parts ?

Hi guys hope some one can help I picked up my new 3.0 alphard today I noticed my electric drivers side wing mirror would not fold in but passengers side would both tilt with the button now later on my radio has stopped working aftermarket one fitted and now passenger wing mirror not working or glass tilting question is do you think they share the same fuse have checked under bonnet main fuse box 25amp one and it's fine .
OK, Picasso; you have helped so many of us, so let's (as a club) hope we can help you.
Clearly you have the correct Owners Manual, and have identified and checked the fuses.
I think Chris.ac has wiring diagrams, perhaps you could PM him and ask if he can help.
Is your vehicle a direct import or through a dealer ?
You may find it a difficult task, but go back to your dealer/importer and request their help.
My only thought is a battery disconnect; BUT, as far as I know, these features are not effected.
I very cautiously suggest you ensure your battery is fully charged, disconnect it, wait a few minutes and reconnect it.
Hopefully you can relearn the windows, moon roof and mirrors. I am guessing here.
I suppose it is possible you have fault issues. Do you have the auction sheet ?
Perhaps if you are able to decode it you may come across something that identifies a pre existing issue, or not.

on the 20 series, you can turn her volume down or off completely, she used to go about not having an etc card inserted, but i found the controls for notifications in the G-sound menus
Hi Chris, thanks for this.
Dewatte, do you have a 20 series?
Check the label on your door pillar, and let us know.
Chris, can you be a bit more explicit on how to achieve this for Dewatte.
Perhaps a button sequence with a screen shot or two.
TIA.

Disconnect them from the brake/sidelight power feeds and connect both those wires to a switched live (via a foglight switch ) to act as fogs.
You already have aftermarket rear lamps that are bright enough without the additional bumper fitted ones.
As ever, Chris the technical whiz, has the answer.
But not all of us have his ability!
Hopefully you understand his reply and can act upon it successfully.

Yep here you go https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372549015405 I should get them by Wednesday so will let you know.
These do not appear to be an obvious plastic match of the parts (fitted to my Alphie).
Bit, if they fit, who cares what the material is.
Good luck, hope they fit.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the photo.
This helps all of us understand what vehicle you have.
I believe , you have a early version of the Evolution 2. 2008 onwards.
I'll need to check when your model was discontinued, 2015 at a guess.
FRO396 and FRO3035 do not fully cover your model.
Picasso is the expert on the manuals as 'his' company supplies them.
This Forum is very fussy about commercial interests, so Picasso is limited in how he can promote these manuals.
I have no financial interest in JPNZ manuals or Picasso's company; so I am free to recommend them.
.
I expect Picasso will advise you (here) of the reference number for the JPNZ manual you need (if you haven't got it already).
If he doesn't let me know and I'll get the info from him.
As Picasso has previously stated, the Maintenance Manual(s) are slated for publication next year.
Until them we all have to wait, although there are sources out there.
Our fellow member Chris.ac, in Exeter, seems to be a leader in locating technical information regarding Alphards.
Thank you Chris.
ps. And I know that (sales) banner too.
As always, you can always refer questions back to your supplier/importer as they have a vested interest in keeping their customer base informed and happy.

Can anyone help,? I have bought the owners workshop manual for 2011 to 2015 for my 2008 2.4s premium. The earlier 2005 to 2011 manual is the correct year for my Alfie but does not have the identical specs. The confusing thing is that the 2011/2015 is the exact match. Why?. I am really confused. Ian24.
Engine and gearbox are different, but owners manual is not a maintenance manual. Some body panels are different, and different seating.
Ian, As 2008 was the crossover year a photo of the vehicle, side view, would clinch it for us.
Evo 1 and Evo 2 have different body panels.
But, as Picasso says, either way, there is no Workshop Manual yet.
The manual you have should help with location of switches and waring lights, seat operation, and lots of other info, but not mechanics.

Have just replaced the centre front and centre rear engine mounts.
Very easy job once you have the vehicle raised securely.
The centre rear is very accessible from underneath only once you remove 2 small splash guards underneath.
17mm deep and short sockets and each bolt/ nut can be seen and worked on easily.
Support the engine near the mount and the mount will literally lift off - you can see and reach every part of the mount.
30 minute job.
Same for the front centre mount, same process, remove the splash guard and you will see the bolts/ nuts.
This one requires the deep 17mm socket and a standard 19mm socket.
Best to use the 1/2" drives to loosen as they are very tight, no rust just tight....
Again 30 minutes.
Local Toyota were happy to do the job, waiting time 8 weeks and quoted £685 all in....
I did use genuine parts at a total of £178...
Smooth as silk as they should be...
This is a nice happy posting.
First, you managed to do the job yourself.
Second, your local Toyota dealer was able to support you.
Thirdly, that they would have carried out the work for those of us unable, or unwilling, to so.
Thanks for sharing your success and method with us all.
Good news all round

Hi Ian, I think those are owners manuals. I think Susie needs something more.
There is also a guy at Bodmin who is a Toyota trained mechanic.
I'll try and find him for you, and get back to you on here.
DYERNOSTICS, no kidding. Can do cam belts and water pumps if you have a V6

Toyota Alphard Recall in the UK - Takata Airbag Recall
in Toyota Alphard Club Forum (2002 - 2008)
Posted
Hello Nov,
Thanks for this insight.
Somewhat disappointing, in my view.
However, it must be a relief to know your vehicle wasn't involved in, or too near to, the Fukushima nuclear accident.
I assume that Japan would not allow any radioactive vehicles to be exported. But, it's nice to know.
I was expecting more 'full service detail'.
Not being familiar with the Japanese system, perhaps "Inspection" means that any work needed was carried out.
This isn't even as good as the DVLA MOT history, albeit that doesn't cover servicing; and nowhere near would we Brits would regard as full service history record.
It would seem to me, that, unless this report is almost zero cost; it isn't really worthwhile.
What is you view for other Alphard users/owners ?
I really appreciate the detail you have provided for all us Alphie fans.
