  1. The problem I had was getting the cable through the rubber tubing from the van to the tailgate. The connection was a bit big really, but got their in the end. All I want now is some sort of shroud to cover the cables that run from the roof lining at the front, down to the camera. With having two of them its not in my liking. If I had a 3d Printer then I would make something like they have on new cars to hide the sensors.
  2. Thanks. Any idea what the little round thing on the dash is. On a youtube video where the show you how to activate the alarm with the toyota software, the little round thing is the alarm LED.
  3. I was under the assumption that most Alphards / Vellfires have alarms. Mine has an immobiliser but thought I would check the alarm. The dash has what looks like an alarm LED but does not light up. I sat in the car today and locked the doors with the remote. I waited for a time for the alarm to activate then opened the door but nothing. Do these vehicles have and alarm? If so does anybody know if it is deactivated, can you activate it via the ODB carscanner app?
  4. Thought I would share this 1. Year: 2009 2. Model: 2.4l Vellfire 3. Driving: Urban driving, normally stop start though the local councils traffic light system (I'm sure they have shares) 4. MPG: Dial reads 6.5m/l so conversion says 29.55mpg
  5. I also picked up the Viofo A129 Plus Duo front and rear, what a coincidence. I have managed to fix the rear camera on the rear window at the top, directly in the middle. Then I ran the cable under the trim and through the rubber for the other cables. That was the hardest part. Then I went down the driver side behind the trim with the rear seatbelt, along the window trim, through the centre post, then in the door rubber. Then through the drivers door pillar and drivers door rubber, then threaded it behind the curtain airbag and along the windscreen. The excess cable went behind the drivers door pillar. The power cable went the opposite way from the camera, along the windscreen, down the passenger door pillar to the fuse box, where there was two 15amp fuse. One was continuous power (AC INV) and one was ignition (RR WIP), so I piggy backed on them. Trouble is that the cover does not fit, so that is having to be stored safe. The earth was easy as that just attached to the bolt for the trim.
  6. So I am looking to buy a dashcam for my Vellfire 20 and have seen one with front and rear camera, however the rear camera is connected with a cable. What is the best route to run the cable. I was thinking of just going in the roof lining, but don't know how easy it is to get in there. The second option would be to get two separate dashcams and run them independent. If I do that, is there a constant 12v supply in the tailgate that I could run it off? I would rather have the first option if anybody has any idea's.
  7. Thanks for the replies, this makes sense. I do not have an original head unit, it has been replaced with a Sony unit, I am waiting delivery of an android unit but I dont think that will connect up.
  8. I don't mind the Japanese. I just want to know which fuel reading is which. One changes as I drive but the other two seem to stay static. My Merc had one reading that showed the average mpg since day one and one that showed it per journey. Not worked out if the Vellfire has and which one is which.
  9. I was a joke. Never seen a car report about radioactive contamination. My car that I have just bought has been in the country for three years, so I don't think there is much point in me getting it. If I was getting one fresh off the boat then I can see it being good.
  10. Just had a look on Car.vx at the sample report sheet and noticed it has a section stated "Use History", where it says "Use in contaminated regions" and "Radioactive contamination test fail". It sort of put me off having a report incase I find something I dont like.
  11. I just ordered one from Aliexpress. I went for the 6gb ram / 128gb storage option because it was cheaper then the lower spec ones sold in the UK. It says it can run the rear camera, so will let you know when it arrives next month. Car Radio For Toyota Alphard 2008-2021 Rhd Octa Core Android Car Dvd Gps Navigation Car Stereo Carplay Android Auto - Car Multimedia Player - AliExpress Incidentally, I contacted the one on ebay to find the specs and found it was a low spec unit. Its 2gb ram and 32gb storage. Many reviews I read said to go for at least 4gb ram as anything less will struggle with newer apps.
  12. I was looking before I bought my Vellfire. Did not want to have to think about speed in km/h on roads with mph and came across this page. KMH-MPH | IVA Preparation| Speedo Conversions |Speedometer Conversion. Luckily I did not need it.
  13. Thats great thanks. I can get the carscanner app on my Android phone.
  14. Hi James How do you get on with the Veepeak OBD, does it allow you to change the settings. The OBDLink MX+ is about three times the price and in these days fuel being silly prices, every thing I can save on helps. Thanks
  15. Hi Alan My Gen 2 2009 2.4 Vellfire had a chip fitted when I bought it a week ago. It was imported in 2019, so I am the second UK owner. I had the same question on fuel consumption and the reading, so I did some research. The chip not only converts the speedo, it converts the distance travelled to mile, so the odometer reads miles not km. (some places convert the original odometer to miles and then it is a true mileage reading. Some places leave it as KM and then it adds miles, for example, you but a car with 60000km on the dial, then convert it and travel another 10000 miles, the odometer will read 70000 miles) With regards to the fuel consumption gauge, it only knows distance travelled / amount of fuel in litres (this is pre programmed). As the distance travelled is now miles, it now calculates miles per litre. Unfortunately the display cannot be changed as it is digital so it still say km/l. 1m/l = 4.55m/g so if your display is saying 8.4km/l, which is actually 8.4m/l, then you are doing around 38mpg which is good. I have been doing short trips around town and there is a lot of stop start and mine is about 27mpg.
  16. I have them on mine. I'm hoping that at least one of them is for DAB radio lol
  17. Always driven manual cars since the age of 17, I'm now 51. Four years ago I got my first automatic which was a Mercedes with the selector on the right hand stalk, with the indicator on the left stalk. My problem was not so much the clutch, it was going down to look for gear lever. Since getting my Vellfire, I now have a habit of turning indicators on to move it into drive, and putting the wipers when I turn. I will get used to is soon/ With regards to left foot braking, unless you are racing and need quick reaction to break and accelerate, don't do it. If you have been driving a manual car then you have trained you left leg to depress the clutch pedal all the way down. When you use your left foot, you may have a habit of breaking harder then you need, and I can't really see the need to risk this when you have been taught to use right foot for break and accelerator and never had a problem. Maybe countries that only really have automatics teach this way.
  18. This looks excellent. Thanks for the time taking the screen shots. There are a few options on their that I think should have been done already, but maybe Toyota Japan sells them as options.
  19. Thanks for this. I've decided to wait for the head unit for a while and make sure that everything else works first. Two problems fixed. The aircon was not working on the passenger side, just blowing hot. Thought it was the blend door, but ended up just being a loose connection, then today I could not lock the car with the remote. When I got out the car it said there was no key, but in the drivers seat it worked fine. Simple fix was a change of battery. I'm wondering if the rear camera just has a loose connection. The old paperwork mentions that the front low beam was not working and that was traced to the Amp, so might have had a micky mouse electrician fix the stereo in. Total cost of car repairs so far £5. Got a dent on drivers door which I want to get sorted and the rubber on the front of one of the sliding rear doors has been damaged, so that needs replacing. Hopefully then the head unit can be done.
  20. I don't mind the seatbelt warning. My last car used to chime until both the driver and passenger put seat belts on. At least the Vellfire just flashes a red light. Do you know what other options can be changed?
  21. I'll be honest, for the last 7 years I have had lease cars with services are repairs all built in, so I have had the luxury of not worrying if things went wrong. Many a time I have been on a long journey, and with stations being fewer and fewer and motorway services being a rip off, I have let the tank go well into the red Never had a problem. Now this leads me to conclude one of few things. The buildup of sludge in the tank is something that happens over many years, these was new cars kept for a few years. Its a tale that has come from the days when cars happily had fumes and smoke flying out the back, before the days of cleaner fuels and the new fuels have so many additives that the build up is less. That the fuel filters in cars are good enough now to collect the particles and stop it getting into the injectors and engines, and provided you change the fuel filter regularly, you will be fine. At the moment I am just getting my head around the fact that I have to pay extra for premium fuel. The lease cars had the cheapest possible.
  22. Just come across this and had to laugh. I have just picked up a Vellfire with an aftermarket Sony unit. It has an option for the reversing camera but it is not working, so I am guessing it is disconnected. Probably my a standard fit. I will be changing it for a full android system that has the works and hopefully the person who fitted the Sony has not massacred the wiring. Hopefully it should be plug and play with camera working. If not they do a reversing camera added, but would have to install that. Full price of the system on under £300 on Aliexpress for a top of the range model with 4G/Wifi, option for 360 camera's. 6g Ram and 128gb of storage. Gonna fit it myself but just run for about £100, so if someone is charging £3000, then stay well clear. If you want a more basic model and want to use ebay. A bloke sells the for £280 with £50 for install and will make sure everything works.
  23. Normally with cars, for safety the light comes on with more miles available then you think or it shows. My last car was a Mercedes A-Class and the warning light came on when the car said it had 50 miles left, it would then do a lot more then 50 miles. Rule of thumb is never to let it get that low because it will drag up settlement from the tank.
  24. I have just picked up a new Vellfire and wanted to say that the dealer at this site is excellent. No hard sell, he let the car do the talking. Had a great selection to chose from. Cars are advertised on Ebay, Autotrader , RAC cars and Parkers.
  25. Just wanted to say hi. Hopefully picking up our first Toyata Vellfire this week. I say hopefully as insurance seems to illusive. The insurance companies don't seem to know a 240Z and don't seem to understand it's just a slight trim level change. Got a lot of waiting for phone calls to get it insured. Looking forward to the extra space as I have been driving a 2019 Mercedes A-Class for the last 4 years. Thank you in advance for all the answers to questions I will have.
